Searching for ETS promotions

Last week I received an unsolicited copy of the August 2003 IBM PC Catalog. At the time I thought it was worth only a short browse because ETS would not be availvable until Q4 per the IBM PR on 8/4/2003 but after finding yesterday ETS will ship 8/15/2003 per wave.com I looked further. There are several mentions of the "IBM Embedded Security Subsystem 2.0" as a component of ThinkPad notebooks and ThinkCentre desktops without a detail decription. There is also no mention of the Wave Embassy Trust Suite.

So I went to http://www.pc.ibm.com/us/security/index.html. Click on Data protection and User authentication and you will see Help protect sensitive data and Deploying client security software never easier which is where I think ETS Document Manager or ETS password utilities would be promoted with a link to wave.com but there is no mention of Wave or ETS.

So joint marketing has not started to the general public. Although, IBM or Wave are probably only direct marketing to ESS 2.0 end users in which case we may not see it on IBM.com. This will allow the biggest bang for each marketing $$. Regardless we need to surf IBM's web site and catalogs 8/15/2003 and after to see if they are promoting ETS openly. Ideally IBM will have it on their main PC product page or IBM.com home page not just buried under the security pages or targeted only to ESS users. I imagine begfore they widely market it they want a successful beat run or initial launch to the ESS niche that will use it first.

If it does not show up in widely available IBM marketing material we should ask Lark Allen and S Sprague what promotions are ocurring for ETS to be sold and ship 8/15/2003 per wave.com without promotion from IBM.

If anybody finds promotions of ETS by IBM, Wave, Intel, NSM, please post.

Can ETS be used without IBM's ESS or a TPM to provide some security for email and files if not authentication? Answered my own question as I wrote it - without ESS or TPM hardware ETS would be software only which is no better than old or existing solutions in the marketplace.
