Well, for the longest time (in upstate NY) we only had 4 channels...6,10,13 and 17 PBS on UHF. Cable made TV viewing much better when we got 26 channels or so and the original HBO in the late '70's.
I still love the old movies and tv shows the most.
I'm not sure if, this is still true...but, up until the mid 1980's WPIX in NY city was still showing The Honeymooner's. They had been show this series non-stop since, it first aired! Now that may be some sort of a record. It's possible that The Twilight Zone or Star Trek may have had very long runs as well...in syndication...after the new shows ended.
