Actually, it could be out of ink ... really, I imagine the ink has dried out while sitting in your unused printer. This dried ink has probably "adhered" your cartridge to it's cradle.

First, I would try to gently rock the cartridge back and forth to loosen the dried ink. Do the rocking in the direction your cartridge normally moves when installing or removing it. If that doesn't work, does your printer have a cleaning regimen? If it does, run it through the cleaning process a few times.

As a last attempt, try cleaning around the bottom of the cartridge and it's cradle in the printer with swabs saturated with rubbing alcohol, again trying to free up the dried ink.

If you finally get it out, clean the cradle thoroughly with rubbing alcohol on the swabs. Give it plenty of time to dry before installing a new ink cartridge.
