sgolds, flash just killed IBM mini-disk, 1 Gb HDD that fits in compact flash socket. It was very successeful product for few years. I wonder when muni-laptops will come with flash instead of HDD? If you make 4 Gb system disk C: as flash, the additional HDD on D: will be sleeping most of the time. That will not save a lot of power, but will increase speed and also make laptop more shock-resistive. If mobil Linux becomes more popular than system disk size requirements may be reduced down to 1 Gb, so technically that can be done right now. The reason is, Linux can use more fine grain separation between system and user disk, so size requirements on the system disk can be much less. In Windows world, most people install MS office on the disk C: and will call support if it will not fit.
