IF you factor in the ship needs repairs, needs intermittent crew - maintenance surely isn't done in a day on these, I don't know that a million dollars a month is really anything after expenses are considered.

I don't get the idea of "spot" jobs, like does that mean they can be more efficient because they can increase the price as they on stand by.

I think they want to build a fleet so they can get regular shipping contracts.
