because these are not major events that would either move the stock nor excite a potential partner.

There is no evidence that anyone wants to partner.

King and the BOD must have had other choices and opportunities and could have avoided this.

Like what? Sunrise failed and they had bet the farm on it. They lost the bet. Actually, they were betting with shareholder money, not theirs, so they lost nothing.
