"Personally I just don't day trade or short stocks so I would like to see it for the added legitimacy it brings, not for the increased volatility or so I can use options to protect my short position."
I'm not a participant, but it's my understanding that options can be used to "protect" or hedge both long and short positions. In any event I'm quite sure that the case for not listing on an exchange because it might result in options trading can't be reasonably made. It's a market and it can result in gains or losses for people who expect the value of a company's shares to go up or down.
Don't be fooled. There is literally no downside to an exchange listing for legitimate shareholders in a company with legitimate prospects.
Provoking thought isn't such a horrible thing for a person to do after all, is it?
:o)
I'm tryin ta think but nuttin happens......Curly
