Every country needs a central bank.
I don't think free college tuition is an entirely unreachable goal. Just about everyone agrees that college tuition has become insanely expensive. Nowadays a college education can mean dealing with hundreds of thousands in debt for twentysomethings. Since there's general agreement that that's a Bad Thing, it should be possible to do something about it.
In-state students already pay less, often much less, than out-of-state students. That needs to be rolled back further.
Once upon a time, it was possible to work your way through college. When I was in high school, Indiana University cost, I think, $500 a year for room and tuition. It wasn't too hard for kids to make that much during the summer.
