Question to anyone re: traveling to europe and internet

I am heading out on vacation to Europe this Friday and plan on bringing my laptop with me. Ya know check on a few swing trades every now and then.

Usually never travel with my laptop but this time I am going for a month so I will bring it.

Has anyone on the thread any experience with logging on to the net in Europe? I have AOL dialup and SBC DSL on my laptop but
I was wondering if I can use these to dial in from Amsterdam or Rome?

I know I need an adapter to plug in for power. But are the phone jacks the same as here? Do I need a special adapter?

Any hardware or software necessary?

One hotel I am staying in says they have internet hookups in the room but is it compatible with my laptop?

Any help would be appreciated.
