HAHA hop on a nuclear outage/ Turaround and see the Terrifying incompetence of what goes on.
Valves that don't work and are broken, short cuts every where. Operators as smart as a stone,NO WAY to do a real professional turnaround on a Nuclear reactor with out exposing tons and tons of skilled craftsmen to extreme level of radiation. NO way to service the inner cooling systems, and or the reactor. NO good way to Service boiler/ tube systems and Exchangers. Green zone, yellow zone, and red zone issues...
High pressure Piping systems that are way out of spec with in their limits of corrosion. But now way to fix them...
Dozens of reactors all over the nation about to meet their permit expiration dates, and these reactors have not had a REAL INDUSTRIAL/ HEAVY MECHANICAL TURNAROUNDs since they were built. These Turnarounds are an effective maintenance tool to replace TURNKEY, LIFE critical, AND CRITICAL PATH systems. Such as cyclones, dip legs, exchangers, high pressure pipe/cooling systems and reactor systems, and valves. Most of the reactors up to on permit DO NOT meet API, or ASME standards for high pressure systems. AS you need turnarounds/outages to keep up with those standards.
Even a turnaround/outage in the green zone can cost hundreds of millions to billions of dollars.. Thus puts the cost effectiveness of a Nuclear reactor way out of whack.
And you think these are safe? Go work in industrial turnaround/outage construction either as a skilled craftsmen, inspector, or engineer and you will learn real quick. There is nothing safe about these, and permits keep getting extended for the operation of these. With out the proper maintenance these things are sure to fail. ITs no different then a coal burner, natural gas burner, or a refinery. They need constant HEAVY mechanical maintenance to operate safely and cost effectively.
The only place that was capable of storing nuclear waste in a very efficient manner was in Carlsbad New Mexico. It sir, took almost 70 years to build, and had nasty fire about 2 or 3 years ago.
The rest of the waste sits in cooling ponds, while flood waters wash in into water systems.
