the wording of the poll may be significant. it might explain the wide disparity in results.

I am a gun owner, but the NRA lost me long ago when they went from a hunter group to a fetish group. They do not speak for me or actually, anyone i hang with, it seems to me like the present NRA guys are largely politically far right wing as they have fallen for what the NRA has become... the sales wing of the arms industry.
