Who'd have thought that we would have drifted so far in our thinking from that group of settlers that were looking for a place to freely worship God?

The thinking of our founding fathers was to establish a country were religion was irrelevant. I you're hinting that religion should be supported by the government.

But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods or no God. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.

This would be the best of all possible worlds, if there were no religions in it.

It was actually founded by non Christians as a place of tolerance. Whether you believe god is a lie, or god is the ruler of the universe, it doesn't matter in the United States. That's what we celebrate tomorrow.
