CHANGING A NATION

So here we are, celebrating another 4th of July with fireworks and holidays. Parties galore and good times abound. We are thankful for a place where freedom reigns supreme and we can do what we want to do...within the limits of the law. There won't be much talk of the subjects that the founders talked about when they declared that independence way back there in 1776. In fact, those brave souls would be shocked with what we have done to the nation that they paid so grave a price to bring onto the scene so long ago.

They would probably line up again on the green in Lexington to fight to regain again what they fought to achieve back then. Who'd have thought that we would have drifted so far in our thinking from that group of settlers that were looking for a place to freely worship God? Now we have removed prayer from nearly every public place and part of our lives. There are those that think a new revolution is needed to bring back the nation that was birthed long ago. I believe we need a personal revolution of the heart. Each and every one of us needs a total renovation of our soul. We are so accustomed to the world that is so very far from God's standards that our actions, choices and worldview have for the most part become more of this world than otherworldly. I believe God wants to change us completely. This will only take place through a change of character that comes from internal ongoing relationship with a living Christ and by life-changing relationships with one another.

Jesus didn't send His disciples into the world to start governments or even churches as we know them today. They were sent out to establish His very own presence by His word and power in the world in which they lived. That will also be His plan for you and I to make a difference in our nation today. When we bring the presence of the King of kings into every corner of human life by living the kingdom of God we will see a nation changed by His power. It will only change one life at a time. That has always been God's plan. Phil. 2:15-16 outlines the opportunity for us. Let's begin now to change a nation by being changed ourselves by His power and Spirit!
