Susie, I know I am a little late in this conversation but I would like to throw my 2 cents in on it. The difference with the club we have had the last few years and the years from 96 to 2001 are the drive and determination. We had very few super stars other than some really big name great pitchers. Sure Jeter had come up but in 96 and 97 and he was young, But Tino had a few good years that raised his status in baseball but all around we had all team players who hated to lose, They all put the weight on their own shoulders and were angy when they didn't come through for the team. Tino, Paul O'Neil, Jeter, Bernie and even Chuck Knobloch(spelling his name right?.lol) Then Brocious came along and had the same mind set. The young guys who came up had winning instilled in their heads and hard team play. We had a high payroll but I believe the Red Sox had a higher payroll in 99 than we did. We have so many home run hitters now as much as I like Matsui and Sheff it is good to see some of the young guys come in and produce because they are mixing it up with home run hitters along with the get on base guys. Damon and Jeter Melky, Cano and Andy and Bernie all to get on base for the Home run hitters. Thats the best mix we have had for a while. They still need to work on Pitching, Wright didn't get deep into the game again and I am not worried about Chacon so much, with sitting on the bench so much yesterday I think that really hurt him because up until his melt down he was cruising. Thats my 2 cent anyway..lol
