Same situation here. Dr wants me to start Viread. I tell him no. I am waiting for a couple more months and do my quarterly blood works and then go seek a 2nd opinion from an liver expert at UCLA medical center.
It is important for me personally to seek the opinion from a doctor who has a lot of HBV cases in his practice and the greater LA area is prime real estate for the Asian hepB patient pool.

The problem for me and I guess for the majority of people with HepB is that if they live in an area with a small asian population, first like in my case, I don't have access to a real HepB specialist but only to Gastros who double as HepB expert and second with limited experience they will treat me by the book as I feel that my gastro is trying to do.

Forget about GPs as they are completely out of their usual practice area. I did try. For someone who is reasonable knowledgeable about his condition, I feel really bad whenever I tried to ask my GP about HepB.
