"something not all people use"

that describes just about every single feature on a notebook. Taking your logic to its natural extension creates an absurdity. At a certain price-point, there is a set of appropriately used features that "belong."

I do NOT advocate a "delete" option for a customer credit larger than Apple's real OEM cost reduction achieved in the swap-out. No way should they be offering you a $50 credit for inserting a lower quality component for which Apple realizes only a $10-$15 "credit," the bulk of which is probably eaten up by the associated BTO costs.

More importantly, as a matter of principle, there's no more sense in offering a "delete" option for DVD-burning capability on the optical drive, than offering a "delete" option for iDVD from the software bundle. There are plenty of MacBook purchasers who don't even own video cameras, much less have an interest in using iMovie.

I could name you several dozen features in the MacBook that I'd never use and would happily accept a credit to have deleted in a 100% customizable world -- but which I would NEVER advocate Apple give me the option to do in the real world. smile
