I can't be positive, but do you suppose "flavors" could potentially mean different colors? You can purchase different colored glass as replacement parts. Those are usually made by a different entity.

Also to note...in the first article, look who the patents were issued to for the idea of strengthening the glass. Rudolf Beckmann, an employee of Manz. It says that those patents may have been acquired by Apple.

Notice the dates on these. Seems like Apple was really looking to press forward on this stuff.

Too bad they pressed so hard and couldn't show a little patience. A little back up power would have helped too.
