RadioShack RSH 3.34% is in negotiations with cellular phone carriers AT&T T 1.22%, Sprint S 4.6% and Verizon Wireless VZ 1.58%, in an attempt to renegotiate its deals and avoid bankruptcy, reports the . Radio Shack generates nearly 50% of its revenue from cellular phone activations, while making little from the phone sales, according to sources.
According to a source, it would be less costly for the carriers to renegotiate their contracts, than to lose sales from the 4,000 U.S. Radio Shack outlets that could close in a bankruptcy.
Radio Shack shares closed up a penny at $0.57 on Tuesday.
