PGM ACQUISITION CLOSING IN APPROX.3 WEEKS!

GCE expects to become majority partner in this operation in a deal expected to close in October, but Mr. Levine would not name the firm or the total amount of the investment, though he did say GCE will invest US$15-million immediately and that that company has annual revenue of $20-million.

“The acquisition will eclipse our expectations and our attention,” Mr. Levine said.

Mr. Levine is confident prices for the metals will keep rising, due in part to booming markets in China and new consumer interest in platinum jewellery.

GCE is projecting revenue from this operation to be US$15.6-million for the last quarter of 2014, and annual revenue of US$80-million in 2015 and US$162-million in 2016.

A study by the San Antonio-based research firm Frost & Sullivan pegs the market growing to $750.1 billion annually in 2020 compared with $387.4 billion in 2013, according to a news release. Regulations that prompt a shift away from landfills to more value-adding segments such as recycling are fueling the growth, as shown in the report, “Global Industrial Waste Management Services Market.”

The latest research from Waste Business Journal details the $55 billion US waste management industry which grew by a modest 2 percent in 2011, slightly behind GDP growth. Revenue growth was hampered by sluggish growth in the volume of wastes generated especially industrial and construction wastes which changed little from the year before. However, higher prices paid for recycled commodities including paper, plastic and steel encouraged companies and municipalities to divert a higher volume of these materials.

Growing Demand: Issues and Opportunities

The growing demand for energy in all forms is driving significant commodity price increases and highlighting the viability of “alternative” energy resources. Increasing global concerns about greenhouse gas emissions are placing additional constraints on how energy is sourced.

The world market for waste-to-energy is projected to reach $28.8 billion by the year 2015. This growth is driven by an increase in solid waste generation, raised energy costs and a reduction in landfill capacity.
