Interesting diabetes story. Diabetes certainly has the demographic tailwind of American lifestyle being exported to other countries, same as the need for more natural resources, sugar, and junk food, OMG.
The key lines for me are "The mean Body Mass Index of newly diagnosed diabetes patients in China is only 23.7 kg/m², compared to 27 kg/m² in the U.S. Researchers speculate that a well-documented tendency among East Asians to accumulate belly fat -- a risk factor strongly associated with Type 2 diabetes -- may be to blame."
