awk and Ispro, I agree with awk regarding the marketing plan. The information I emailed to awk yesterday clearly shows it is being marketed as a security drive, and the comparisons they make in the marketing material are vs software-only and standard drive technology. It is being sold as a hard drive vault.

Additionally, if you want it, you gotta pay (this is where the $25 figure comes in). The justification there is that other solutions cost 4 times as much and are less secure. Granted, you're buying a new harddrive on top of that, but you HAVE to, or you're stuck with software-only security which is like protecting your valuables by putting them in a wet paper bag to hide them from hackers.

I disagree with awk that the hard drive itself will cost significantly more than a regular hard drive. I think it will cost a bit more, but marginally. We've heard from some other investors that have had conversations with Seagate and Wave that the margins on harddrives are no looser than PCs. Selling Wave with the FDE drives would provide a much wanted revenue channel for Seagate. Maybe these comments are wrong, but we'll have to see. I don't see the drive costing a whole lot more, though.
