CVX expects strong 2Q14 GAAP EPS due to non-recurring items:

Chevron Corp…said on Thursday it expects its second-quarter profit to rise, helped in part by asset sales and fewer one-time charges.

The company said its quarterly profit should "be higher" in the second quarter compared to the first quarter, when it posted net income of $4.51 billion, or $2.36 per share.

Analysts expect, on average, Chevron to post second-quarter earnings of $2.76 per share…

Most analysts and investors ignore CVX’s GAAP EPS and focus on non-GAAP EPS (excluding non-recurring items); one could conceivably try to estimate 2Q14 non-GAAP EPS from the details in CVX’s PR (http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/93410/000009341014000038/cvx2q14interimupdatepr.htm ), but the info there is for April and May only, so it would be a non-trivial task.

CVX will report actual 2Q14 results on 8/1/14.
