Americas new Long War
This text omits that the ‘long war’ has, in addition, the pentagon preparing for war with China. #msg-10051566
There are some interesting statements in the following text especially the reference to one world ruler. Here I don’t see a bin Laden type as the Caliph is the temporal and spiritual head of Islam and bin Laden and associates subscribe to a bastardized version of Islam. This is ambitious, lots of luck in getting that far.
Muslims also need to evolve and move forward to a new era of thinking and politics. Muslim sovereignty, protection and identity can only be safeguarded by the Muslims strengthening internally themselves, by unifying into one State, led by one ruler.

Americas new Long War
uploaded 12 Mar 2006
The US Secretary of Defence Donald Rumsfeld recently announced America's future war plans after the Pentagon completed it's Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR), a four-yearly strategy review. Christened the 'Long War' and modelled after the 'Cold War', the plan marks an attempt to re-package and re-market the 'War on Terror' to an increasingly sceptical American public and beyond. The plan calls for fighting 'Islamic Extremism' for as long as it takes. Ryan Henry, a Pentagon official who helped draft the report stated "When we refer to the long war, that is the war against terrorist extremists and the ideology that feeds it, and that is something that we do see going on for decades.....We in the defense department feel fairly confident that our forces will be called on to be engaged somewhere in the world in the next decade where they're currently not engaged, but we have no idea whatsoever where that might be, when that might be or in what circumstances that they might be engaged". The findings of the QDR echo similar views first mentioned by the US administration after 9/11 about the concept of an endless war stating that the War on Terror will be fought for decades to come.
The report goes on to envisage Americas new theatre of operations as including the Horn of Africa, North Africa, central and south-east Asia the northern Caucasus as well as the Middle East. The QDR states that "the struggle ..... may well be fought in dozens of other countries simultaneously...." It is clear the US see it's future military operations being conducted predominantly in the Muslim world. However, what is revealing is that it sees itself fighting mainly covertly, alongside the regimes in these countries in "stabilisation operations" against "insurgencies". In other words it sees no alternative but to intervene directly in an attempt to prop up and prolong the rule of the corrupt rulers in the Muslim world today. What is also revealing is that it also foresees the need to attack foreign lands from great distances, lands over which it may not have any control over, hence the emphasis on a building a long range bomber fleet.
It is clear that the West led by America, is redefining it's relationship with the rest of the world, in particular the Muslim world. No longer does a "Nation's sovereignty" have any meaning. The West has adopted a new doctrine, a doctrine of "Pre-emption", providing the basis to attack other nations it deems fit, discarding the notion of sovereignty. As the War in Iraq has shown any pretext will suffice. It is apparent that the international order and framework in place since the end of the Second World War has completely broken down. The UN has proven itself to be completely toothless and irrelevant to world affairs. It readily sanctions acts of aggression against Muslim countries yet ignores the aggression of America and Israel. It has simply become a rubber stamp for the West. The IAEA is yet another example. It has been pressuring Iran over it's nuclear programme, yet is silent over other countries nuclear proliferation. India, armed with it's own nuclear weapons, is permitted to conclude nuclear cooperation agreements with America and France, a direct violation of the NPT. France's Jacque Chirac recently issued a statement threatening to pre-emptively use nuclear weapons in order to safeguard it's interests, putting it on equal footing with America, Britain and Russia. Russia too has also just passed a new law giving it's President the power to conduct overseas "anti-terrorist" operations.
International Law has been deliberately pushed to one side, with flagrant disregard of established treaties such as the Geneva Conventions. The QDR report in fact sees the redefinition of such law as crucial to it's war plans as it states "a substantial shift in emphasis that demands broader and more flexible legal authorities and cooperative mechanisms ... Bringing all the elements of US power to bear to win the long war requires overhauling traditional foreign assistance and export control activities and laws."
The current International order was always stacked and geared towards Western interests. Yet since 9/11 even this order, which was the bedrock of International Law, has been completely torn down and discarded. In it's place the West has redefined the 'rules of the game'. Muslims all over the world need to come to terms with such changes. They need to stop looking towards redundant institutions such as the UN for protection, where there is none. Muslims also need to evolve and move forward to a new era of thinking and politics. Muslim sovereignty, protection and identity can only be safeguarded by the Muslims strengthening internally themselves, by unifying into one State, led by one ruler. A State that will unite Muslims under one banner, heal the wound of sectarianism, unify her resources, and unify the Ummah. This can only be achieved under the banner of the Caliphate, on the model provided by the Prophet Muhammad. As America's QDR review shows the West anticipates further direct military involvement in Muslim lands. This can only mean one thing, that it too foresees the return of the Caliphate, which is why it is busy making such plans to try to prevent it's imminent return.
