To blatantly dismiss AMSILK in whatever application they intend for their products would be foolish IMO.
You are correct,as no one knows what the future holds.-truth
They have very significant hurdles. They have to be able to simultaneously fold 3 different proteins. They have to overcome protein size limits. They have to invent a control system to do all the above, and THAT alone, is most like an impossible task. It is probably safe to say it isn't going to happen, but I am not going to go there just yet. The hurdles for bio-mimicking what the spider/silkworm does, are significant enough to permit a blatant dismissal, until you hear of overcoming at least 1 of these 3 hurdles. These are facts, not speculation. These hurdles are why attempts are failing and drying up.
I bet Amsilk is doing what they are doing, because investment dollars are not coming in. If the money was coming in, then they would not bring in the transition management they just brought in. Their back has to be against the wall. If it was just the fact that a co-founder was leaving, then that would mean something in itself. The fact that they are bringing in someone whose resume includes the ability to transition to a public company, means they are going in a new direction. Not an insignificant feat.
And that fiber date push back (after 2015)is vague. It is much more open ended than any of Kim's estimates. I mean the year 3015 is after 2015.
All this is to say that dismissing Amsilk's fiber endeavor, couldn't be more highly warranted. It is a silly notion...again until they over come at least one of the above hurdles.
Leimer is convinced that, even from the outset, the market will be able to support several players.
Everyone should be very clear that Amsilk will probably never be a player in the fiber space. If they go public, I certainly wouldn't be an investor, knowing what they have to accomplish.
We don't really know what KBLB's exact product applications pertain to, we can only speculate..-abomination
We don't have to know "exactly"..... You can go off what you know according to published data. And that alone is enough to put MS on ALL textile company RADAR screens. If it is not on their screens, then they are fools. Come on...what shoe ISN"T going to be made tougher by MS's incorporation? Places on tennis shoes that require flex or bending, and places that have high levels of abrasion(where you put your foot in the shoe) These all got tougher than existing technologies. This is what it means to have anything close to pure spider silk. That is why you have interest on function alone. Because of that, consumer interest in all things natural, and its "environmentally green" characteristics ... marketing becomes a no brainer.
We already know what the public is going to be learning. And as you say...that is why we are already the world leader.
