well, a stock could be 10% short but may have 1 mill average volume on 10 mill o/s...so it may only take 1 day to cover...not too much pressure to cover...but if 10% short & only has 50k volume, then it would take 20 days on normal volume to cover, so if it starts moving with some volume...the shorts will have to cover & usually abnormal volumes attracts buyers, so it's combination of shorts covering in panic with new buyers pushing at same time...that's what I call a short squeeze...they'll pay up to cover their shorts...I hope that helps...
