“Musk is a perfect fit to succeed Jobs.” Where do I start with this?
First of all, Elon would never take the job. He has no interest in running someone else’s baby. Elon starts and runs his own companies. He has his hands full with SpaceX and Tesla plus some work with Solar City. He would never want to run Apple. He wants to make a difference and I don’t see Apple changing industries like it has in the past. SpaceX and Tesla are better poised for this. Do you really think Elon would want a company he started and named to start pumping out iCar's with Apple logo's. Just my opinion, but I am very confident this will never happen.
Second, Cook would not knowingly be involved in finding his own replacement. CEO’s have a nasty habit of staying past their time and never leave willingly. Just look at LiquidMetal.
Third, LiquidMetal is not a good material for making large car parts like body panels. Yes LQMT can be twice as strong as Titanium , but it weighs 35% more and more than twice the weight of Aluminum. If you want a light car you won’t use LQMT. And just for the record if you did have body panels made of LQMT. They would still bend in an accident, and would cost a fortune to replace. There may be applications in the fuel Cell that runs the car, but not body panels or large parts or any part that gets hot.
Of course, I hope will all make money someday, but it won't happen this way and it will take at least 10 years to get to 2 billion market cap. Its great to be a glass half full guy, but you need to be realistic. Sitting on the deck of the Titanic saying "At least the hole is only on one side" will not save you.
