I know the NY Federal Reserve Bank, which was about three blocks blocks away from the old World Trade Center was destroyed in the 9/11 attacks when the buildings (and a hotel) collapsed. At the time there was some press about the purported $75 billion in gold held in the bank's underground storage vault.
The National Collector's Mint coined what was later found to be bogus 9/11 commemrative coins from silver the company claimed to have been collected from the destroyed World Trade Center; officers from the company were indected and pled to lesser charges.
I also remeber a story in the NY press about the Bank of Nova Scotia had silver and gold bullion stored underneath in a vault beneath the World Trade Center site; I think this was stored in the Federal Reserve Vault.
