Purdy’s column is principally for readers of the Bay Area. As mentioned in my reply to excel, Purdy’s emails have been split with close to half taking issue with the article. But the objection from the populace is not that Bonds should refrain from passing Ruth—rather, the objection is that a sizable swath of the Bay Area populace wants Bonds should keep playing, period.
