Computer shipments fell for yet another quarter despite the need for businesses to update aging PCs using older operating systems, according to a pair of data trackers on Wednesday. International Data Corp. said global PC shipments dropped 4.4% in the first quarter to 73.4 million units, marking the eighth straight quarter of declines.
…Gartner said global PC shipments fell 1.7% to 76.6 million units, noting that the severity of the decline eased compared with the past seven quarters. It also pointed to sales resulting from the end of Windows XP, a trend that the firm expects to continue throughout the year.
It’s curious that IDC‘s and Gartner’s numbers differ to such a degree.
