Fiber from grain can help you live longer
From a Yahoo poster "Roady"
But new research suggests more fiber could equal more years . . . What is clear, however, is that participants only benefited when fiber came from grains, like oatmeal, cornmeal, and brown rice. Fiber from fruits, vegetables, and beans had no impact on death risk."

Testimonials about Henk's new book, mainly about NTRZ products is interesting in who is on the list. I like the first from a PHD in the USDA Food Safety abd Inspection Division. This was discussed before, but with the lack of news I might as well post it again.
Testimonials
“I have known Dr. Hoogenkamp as a colleague and as a food scientist for many, many years. Henk's vision is to maximize the utilization of all natural resources in feeding this world of hunger.”
—James Rasekh, Ph.D., USDA-FSIS, Washington, DC
“Through his interactions globally, Henk has shared his insights into functional food ingredients, as well as new food product trends around the world, with so many food technology professionals. I consider him an expert in the science of food proteins and emulsions. He understands the functional characteristics of meat, dairy and vegetable proteins and knows exactly how to use them in combination to complement each other.”
—Hsien-Hsin Chang, Ph.D., Director of R&D, ConAgra Foods
“Henk is unique in that he caters to no one group [within the food industry]. He remains neutral and always provides an honest, trustworthy opinion. Most importantly, he looks to the future and focuses on the world’s exploding population to determine how we can better manufacture healthy foods to meet present and future demands to feed the world. I’ve heard him described as the Michael Jordan of meat science. When Henk Hoogenkamp talks, the industry listens.”
—Kody Newland ,Vice President of Sales and Marketing, NutraCea, Scottsdale, Ariz., the world's largest manufacturer stabilized rice bran
"Henk consistently predicts the challenges, the opportunities and future directions of the global food industry with astounding accuracy. His quarter century of leadership in this regard is without peer.”
—Mike Parry, Sales & Marketing Director, Kerry Canada
“Henk is one of my personal heroes because of his relentless pursuit of better ingredients to build better foods. He is a transparent visionary and his innovative research has inspired many of us in manufacturing to take the risks required to move the industry forward. He always presents a clear case for better, healthier ingredients and that distinguishes himself among his colleagues.”
—Chris Salm, Ph.D., President and Owner of Salm Partners, Denmark Wis., the largest U.S. co-extrusion company
"Many years passed by since we first developed together innovative products for a company that was too big and too close minded to appreciate. Nevertheless, for me these moments have been extremely fullfilling and, no matter how fast the time goes, I will never forget.?I learned a lot from that experience, thanks to you, my dear true friend."
—Fernando de Martino, McDonald's -Manager Q&A Mid-East Region
“Henk is that rare individual who combines a practical understanding of food formulation with an acute insight into the global implications of food policies and individual choices. He is constantly searching for and sharing the best ways to deliver affordable nutrition to our ever-growing human population. Due to his exposure to worldwide culinary and sociopolitical realities, he can convey a compelling message to his readers. His works should be required reading for all food technologists, corporate managers, public policy makers and those individuals interested in affordable, sustainable nutrition.”
—Innocent Ukabam, Ph.D., Senior Scientist, Danisco Co.

“Henk is a world-class food technology expert who combines a deep understanding of food science—including food chemistry, microbiology and engineering—with the practical industry experience to design creative foods and food ingredients that fit the lifestyle and the budgets of consumers in these trying times. He has made available ingredients for use in both developed and developing countries to make delicious and nutritious meals within the reach of people who are often time- and resource-constrained. His work has made it possible to pack nutrients into foods to meet the requirements of young and old in all of the countries willing to utilize his innovative lifestyle foods.”
—Sonia de Leon, Ph.D., Professor of Food Science, the University of the Philippines
“Henk Hoogenkamp is a mentor, someone who has the amazing foresight to translate sound technical information in food science into viable food business ventures. But most importantly, he is unselfish in sharing his knowledge of recent advances in food product development and processing. In meat processing, he is my sensei.”

Z needs more attention as we go up. I will sell when Cramer recs it.
That .30 line was impoarnat to break and a new closing high was nice. Now we need to go above that .33 old candle top. And note how the market maker used the 20 day moving average as supporrt the last few days. Not many stocks have a 10% day and 52 week new closing high and only 4 of us post. That is good news as many little guys are not in yet.

AGHAST
What's interesting about Pfizer's buy of Ferrosan is the last two paragraphs of the story. They say "Pfizer has said it is placing more emphasis on external research partnerships and buy-ins". Well, the story is not about either an external research partnership nor a buy-in. So, buy-ins fit into NTRZ predicament very well. Second, the last paragraph talks about some of Z's studies, internal medicine, inflammation, and immunology.
Also, I posted a year old rumor that a NYC pharma company was at the las shareholders meeting in December 09. Pfizer is headquartered there and PFE has offices in Singapore as well, where Herbal Science is located.
This may mean nothing, but there is a sudden interest in "Medical food" as illustrated in the Pfizer story as well as the Nestle story posted last week. I sure hope Short has something lined up with somebody.

Pfizer acquires Danish food supplements operation
Pfizer has acquired the consumer healthcare business of Danish firm Ferrosan for an undisclosed fee in what the pharma giant says, “is an excellent strategic fit that strengthens our presence in dietary supplements”.
Pfizer Consumer Healthcare president Paul Sturman said the buy would give Pfizer, “a new set of compelling brands and product pipeline.”
“The transaction will mark an important step towards expanding Ferrosan's brands through Pfizer's global footprint. As an immediate result of this acquisition, we will gain greater distribution and scale for Pfizer's well-known brands such as Centrum and Caltrate in Ferrosan's regions."
Those regions are Scandinavia, Ukraine, Russia and central and eastern Europe where Ferrosan Consumer Health has established a presence with brands such as the multivitamin Multi-tabs, probiotic label Bifiform, omega-3 brand Fri Flyt/Active Omega, and skin care product Imedeen.
Barring regulatory intervention, the deal is expected to close in the second quarter of this year.
Ferrosan was purchased in 2005 by the Danish private equity firm, Altor Equity Partners. In that time EBITDA doubled from increased from 147m Danish Kroner (€19.7m) to DKK 302m (€40.5m) in 2010, an average annual increase of 15 per cent.
The president and chief executive officer of Ferrosan, Ola Erici, observed of the deal: “Ferrosan has successfully expanded its Consumer Health business over the past years under strong support from Altor. With Pfizer as a new owner, we will now be able to take our core brands to more countries and at the same time increase product offerings in our existing markets. We believe that being part of Pfizer going forward will further contribute to our positive development, and will enable us to serve our customers even better.”
The deal is specific to Ferrosan Consumer Health. Ferrosan Medical Devices, which specialises in developing gelatine-based haemostatic products, will remain under Altor ownership.
As of Friday, Ferrosan shares were at trading at $19.30 (€14.25) on the New York Stock Exchange.
Pfizer facing change
Pfizer has said it is placing more emphasis on external research partnerships and buy-ins as its core cash-cows such as the cholesterol reduction drug, Lipitor, and erectile dysfunction stalwart, Viagra, lose ground to generic drugs and other competitors.
It recently announced that it will close a 2400-strong R&D unit in the UK as part of a strategic shift from urology and internal medicine to vaccines, neuroscience, inflammation, oncology and immunology.

xero--I have been thinking a bit like Biggs. I see so much bearishness about China that I wonder if all the bad is factored in. CNBC has been hammering away at Chinese and Asian stocks in general and CNBC is often the best contrary indicator around. I don't trust individual Chionese stocks and favor PGJ to buy Chinese. Instead though, I like PIE and EWX that are both like third world ETF's for growing third world stocks, like a third world NASDAQ.
PGJ, connect the tops from last November to January and now and that declining resistance line is near. If it breaks it a nice rally could happen.

Global food security initiative launched at Davos
DAVOS, SWITZERLAND — At the recent World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland a coalition of business, governments and farmers launched a strategy to significantly increase food production while conserving environmental resources and spurring economic growth. Organizers noted that the approach is already being implemented in two countries, Tanzania and Vietnam. The strategy, led by 17 global companies, sets ambitious targets for collective action to increase production by 20%, decrease greenhouse gas emissions per tonne by 20% and reduces rural poverty by 20% each decade.
The 17 companies leading the initiative span the full agriculture value chain, including Archer Daniels Midland, BASF, Bunge Limited, Cargill, The Coca-Cola Company, DuPont, General Mills, Kraft Foods, Metro AG, Monsanto Company, Nestlé, PepsiCo, SABMiller, Syngenta, Unilever, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Yara International.
The key focus of the strategy is to building on the private sector’s capacity for innovation, investment and growing markets, and it is entitled “Realizing a New Vision for Agriculture: A Roadmap for Stakeholders.” It recommends better coordination among business, government and civil society to improve agriculture systems holistically. Over 350 leaders from all sectors around the world contributed to its conclusions and recommendations.
Speaking at a press conference at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting where the strategy was presented, President Jakaya Kikwete of Tanzania launched a blueprint for public-private investment in the Southern Agricultural Growth Corridor, developed with support from the initiative. “Developing this corridor could triple regional production, generate $1.2 billion per year and lift 2 million people out of poverty,” he said. “My government is committed to realizing this opportunity to generate sustainable growth in the region.”
“Business can help transform agriculture, but we can’t do it alone,” said Paul Polman, chief executive officer (CEO) of Unilever. “By working collaboratively with farmers, governments and others, we can achieve our common goals of increasing health and prosperity while protecting the planet.”
The concept of coordinating investments has attracted interest from business, government and donor organizations. “Innovative public-private partnerships offer a powerful opportunity to achieve significant impact on global hunger and nutrition,” said Rajiv Shah, Administrator of the US Agency for International Development (USAID). USAID is supporting Tanzania’s growth corridor and catalytic fund through Feed the Future, the US government global hunger and food security initiative.
Farmer leaders from India, Africa, Europe and the U.S. welcomed the initiative. “Farmers are entrepreneurs, and by partnering with companies they can get the access to the markets, financing and technology they need,” said Chengal Reddy, Co-Chair of the Indian Farmers and Industry Alliance.
“The success of farmers will bring this New Vision to life,” said Hugh Grant, CEO of Monsanto. “The New Vision will require action by all of us, working across the public and private sectors, to create the policies, infrastructure and partnerships needed to provide farmers choice and access to markets.”
