Looks like Fuhrman is recommending high veggie/fruit intake — can’t disagree with that.
If possible, it’s best to buy organic when eating those fruits and vegetables with the highest pesticide residue. Here are the dirty dozen:
https://www.foodsafetymagazine.com/news/2018-dirty-dozen-and-clean-fifteen-lists-rank-produce-items-by-pesticide-level/
Fuhrman recommends eating mushrooms daily. Good idea, though not sure the button, crimini, portobello mushroom is the way to go. See Paul Stamets reference later.
In Japan, an extract of the common Turkey Tail mushroom is approved for combination with chemo and radiation therapy. It’s main impact is on immune function. Unfortunately it is unknown here — cheap, no significant side effects (actually reduces side effects of toxic therapy), and shows signs of increasing efficacy of standard treatments.

I’m sure Pubmed searches will keep one entertained for a while. Let’s do a quick search (haven’t looked in 15 years). Here’s one example:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2845472/
What, they’re finally getting around to studying it in the US! A phase 1 trial in BC patients:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3369477/
Wonders never cease. Really, not kidding, first I heard of it. Though I bet my only child it will never be used by mainstream onc’s here.
The phase 1 trial used Paul Stamets’ product. He is the mushroom expert in the US. Worth getting to know his work. YouTube/Joe Rogan interview with him is a little mind blowing. He has a really cryptic comment about button mushrooms that’s worth the price of admission. Who knew mushrooms were so amazing?
Anyway, I digress. Diet is just one component of cancer prevention. It’s a very expansive topic that goes to many aspects of how one lives.
Depends which side of the case he’s arguing today.
Now that you point it out, it is pretty over the top.
Yep, regarding pride.
Got it — on rereading I see I should have noticed what you were doing. I agree with the thrust of your post. Based on the way he chose to respond to the ASCO blended results, I expect him to be trotted out as the KOL and spray major horse piss all over top line results when they are released. The only way that doesn’t happen is if the endpoint results are very significant and the survival tail is fat, long and flat. Even then I expect him to throw some shade (perhaps shades of mineral oil).
JMO
Right, except they were recurrent GBM and it doubled expected survival (which admittedly is pretty low to begin with).
All the standard caveats apply - small N, unblinded, etc...
The excitement is seeing any signs of efficacy in rGBM. Now to figure out how to maximize it, reduce AEs and combine it with other treatments like DCVax.
Try taking off the thick black gloves, I’ve found that helps immensely. Before I did that, my messages looked like I was a monkey banging out Hamlet.
Survivor, That’s a kind of strange thing for a medical researcher to say. Just did a quick search and came up empty — do you have a reference?
TIA
Senti, I forgot to mention the importance of cancer prevention. This is one of the most overlooked / under-emphasized approaches to dealing with great increase in cancer incidence. It’s a huge subject itself but extremely important.
Directly relevant is Dr Samuel Epstein’s “Stop Breast Cancer Before It Starts:”
https://www.amazon.com/Stop-Breast-Cancer-Before-Starts-ebook/dp/B00BKIYJVC/ref=mp_s_a_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1549838135&sr=8-11&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=samuel+epstein
Unfortunately I haven’t read this particular book, but I’ve read Epstein’s key works on cancer and he’s an expert on the topic.
Senti, great to hear that you found some value in digging deeper into Gotzsche and appreciate that you let me know I’m not just talking to myself (although of course I like the sound of my own voice, so it’s not necessarily completely pointless )
But seriously, I empathize with your hesitation on getting mammograms and the uncertainty that results from going against conventional wisdom. This is especially so when it is pushed relentlessly by people in positions of authority on questions that can directly impact how long one might live. This scenario seems to be a recurring theme with me and it’s never a pleasant experience, given the knowledge that we are imperfect judges dealing with incomplete knowledge on highly contested topics. I understand why Cipher (in The Matrix) comes to believe, “Ignorance is bliss.” Or as my niece said in response to that scene in the movie, “Hook me up to the machine!”
Let us know if you come across any particularly striking or noteworthy info in Gozsche’s book. I plan on getting it eventually but I have a lot of other books on tap that seem more relevant at the moment.
Don’t forget it’s important to read and understand the pro arguments too — Good luck with your decision!
Well, when you put it that way...
Agreed— confirmation bias is a bitch. It’s good to remember we’re all subject to it.
Obviously I include myself in “all.” I’ve thought for decades that I was an open-mined sort of guy. It’s only in the last few years that I’ve come to understand that pretty much everything needs to be questioned, especially “authoritative” sources. Evidence, not authority. Then question the evidence. Then question yourself if the belief you hold is really important.
This seems like too much work!
Experts, leaders, the highly credentialed — they may be acting in good faith but be ignorant of the fact that they are complicit in pulling the wool over your eyes.
Duplicate- added last paragraph in later message.
Need to figure out how this happens, lol!
Time lapses are pretty cool. By coincidence, I heard about the work of photographer James Balog today on NPR, who has been documenting environmental changes for quite a while. Apparently he has millions of images taken by cameras positioned at the bases of glaciers around the world that take a photo every 30 minutes.
He has a new film coming out this week:

Not sure about availability but assuming he wants wide availability.
Thanks - thought you’d be entertained!
Climate change induced melting of the artic ice cap triggers a shift in the Gulf Stream. The shift is not gradual but discrete and of enough magnitude to cause a new ice age to commence. The new weather pattern begins immediately— it starts snowing across Europe on March 15th, 2019 and doesn’t stop for years.

This originally caught my attention because the Dept of Defense was war gaming it, not because of whatever the movie was that used it as a premise. Did a quick search, didn’t find the original article but this is good enough.
https://science.nasa.gov/science-news/science-at-nasa/2004/05mar_arctic
Not taking this too seriously but it has crossed my mind to scout out some mountains/hills in Southern Europe that are currently considered useless for future development as ski resorts!
Thanks Flipper — the insight is hard to come by, the candor is harder to “modulate.”
Thoughts on BP throwing spaghetti against the wall
Glad you liked it!
A day without DCVax-L is like a day without sunshine!
Maybe NWBO can get Anita Bryant to do their first commercial on approval. Since DCVax has such a great safety profile, once it’s a first line treatment, it won’t have the buzz kill list of potential side effects that most drugs have.
Thanks for keeping up on hyperprogression and sharing your findings with us. Seems like a big deal if the golden boy of cancer treatments turns out to be William Bundy— wait, is that right? (google search...) I mean Ted Bundy! Gotta keep your Bundys straight.
One wonders how long they can brush it under the rug in the US. If it were 20 years ago, I’d say, quite a while with 10’s of thousands harmed, I mean, killed (see Vioxx). Gotta keep your AEs straight too.
Perhaps the knowledge sharing of the internet will limit the damage this time around. It’s been said that the internet is acting as our Gutenberg press — freeing us from the institutional control over knowledge. I think that’s true to a certain extent. We’ll see how it plays out in this case.
I believe by binary event he means that top line results will be revealed in a PR and will be either good or bad and the stock price will react accordingly.
Biosect, great example of possible price action post-top line. If NWBO has positive topline, I’m still expecting a roller coaster ride to possible approval and perhaps beyond.
How do you think the CPXX story you related would have been different if it had been an OTC penny stock instead of Nasdaq listed?
Hope I’m not putting you on the spot — I value your opinion, understand each situation is unique and the future is always uncertain.
Great question! Seriously, the answer isn’t obvious, is it?
What is special about DCVax?
What is unique about NWBO?
