The previous message on daily independent was meaningless, I thought, the message board still used the older and now defunct website.

11 Billion barrels of recoverable oil in JDZ, is that estimate good or bad?
Any JDZ drilling this year then. Pioneer was supposed to use the Aban Abraham to drill in Equatorial Guinea, Nigeria and one other country. Though, I think Kosmos energy is the contractor of Aban Abraham, but with pioneer quitting what happens next?
Petemantx, the problem may be with Sinopec, they have limited deepwater drilling history in West Africa or anywhere. Addax intends to drill 2 or three wells simultaneously that would be tougher to do in this rig market. A well may be easier to go March or April but two wells or three at a time may be much tougher. The rig market is close to 100% utilization for offshore. However, watch out for the rig on Agbami, no real info after 2007, the name is called Sedco energy or something close.
the dolphin seems to be going to Benin and Ghana not the JDZ but we will see.
SEDCO Energy
Deepwater Pathfinder
are some rigs that may have slots
XOM? there was a bosi 8 well... I still believe the info is available. I know a mag that actually publishes info a few wells during the time
Pup what are they prospects you heard of block 4?
And any news from drilling in Nigeria? Menas associates has a new free sample out you can check it out
OT
Shell has a new discovery however, it is a little bit far of from the JDZ but the geology is close. I think the chances of hitting oil around block 1,2,4 are great.
Interesting African oil journal
"www.Africaoilandgasreport.com" it is headed by Fred Akanni, but it is by subcription. However, it seems to have indepth coverage of the oil and gas industry in Africa sometimes.
Platina, Yet it has, it seems EFCC chairman is serious about corruption. The downside..... I am suspecting a triumvirate of Offor, the late waziri and Fasawe, waziri is dead and fasawe is in trouble. However, Offor remains unscathed.
Good luck ERHC
OT Starcrest
N12bn scandal rocks NNPC
By OLAWALE RASHEED - 17.11.2006
A N12 billion oil deal between Addax Petroleum of Canada and Nigeria’s Starcrest Energy Limited is creating ripples as reports alleged monumental fraud in the entire transactions. The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) is in charge of holding and conducting oil bids for oil firms both upstream and downstream.
The crux of the outcry is that Starcrest is owned by Chief Emeka Offor, Ikechukwu Okpala and Tochukwu Odukwe, businessmen alleged to be fronting for some top administration officials.
It was learnt that the suspicion was strengthened by the fact that Starcrest was registered on May 19, 2006 and was allegedly offered a lucrative oil block in breach of the Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative to which Nigeria subscribed in 2003.
Starcrest, after securing the oil block, proceeded to sell 72.5 per cent of its equity to Addax Petroleum, making N5 billion while retaining 22.5 per cent equity.
While reports said Starcrest got the offer through the back door, Addax president, Jean Claude Gandur, insisted that the block in question, OPL 291, was tendered by the Nigerian government under the 2006 mini-bid round.
The deal is being linked to another Nigerian company, Safiya Global Investment Limited, a company in which Emeka Offor, the late Mohammed Waziri and Otunba Oyewole Johnson Fasawe are directors.
A company search of Safiya Limited at the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) revealed that the company shares the same office with Starcrest at 22 Lobito Crescent, Abuja.
Investigation through the company search revealed that Waziri Mohammed purportedly resigned his directorship of the company on Monday, October 17, 2005, five days before he died in the Bellview plane crash in Lisa, Ogun State, on Saturday, October 22. The purported resignation is itself, raising suspicion as it was believed that the company could not afford public scrutiny of its records if it was to follow the procedure for changing its directors after the death of Waziri.
The shareholders of the company is Chief Emeka Offor (8,350,000), Otunba Fasawe (8,350,000) and Mohammed Waziri (8,350,000). Waziri was replaced by one Alhaji Hassan S. Ibrahim.
In its three years of operation, the company, which is also into oil exploration and exploitation like Starcrest Energy, has not filed annual returns with the CAC.
Impeccable presidency sources said the equity of the company was held in trust for a leading administration official, a top official of the Senate and a cabinet minister who has been in the eye of the storm for his controversial pronouncements on critical national issues.
A reliable presidential source disclosed that the oil block was allocated to secure the co-operation of the top legislator and the minister for the roles they are expected to play in the new bid for tenure extension scheduled for early next year.
Addax Petroleum Corporation had a few days ago announced that its wholly owned subsidiary had entered into a farm-out agreement with Starcrest Nigeria Energy Limited, an indigenous Nigerian oil company, pursuant to which Addax Petroleum and Starcrest have signed a Production Sharing Contract (PSC) with Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in respect of Oil Prospecting Licence (“OPL”) 291 deep water offshore Nigeria. Addax Petroleum has a participating interest of 72.5 per cent and is the operator.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the EFCC had said he would investigate the sale of oil acreage that was offered in open auction but subsequently sold off behind closed doors.
Nuhu Ribadu told the Financial Times in a recent interview that he would examine how a lucrative oil block was sold off without being declared by Nigeria’s petroleum ministry, despite open bidding procedures designed to bring a measure of credibility to Nigerian oil licence awards.
“I want to assure you that this will definitely be investigated,” said Mr. Ribadu. “As I have always said, it is no longer business as usual in Nigeria.”
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation is yet to publicly explain how the block was awarded to Starcrest, a company with no proven track record in the oil industry but which industry sources say has strong political connections.
Efforts to get administration officials to comment on the story proved abortive as none of them was available. The spokesman of the NNPC, Dr. Levi Ajunoma, did not answer his phones despite several attempts while the presidential assistant on public affairs, Mallam Uba Sani, stated that he did not have immediate comments, saying he would speak today.
Aviation
* Facing Nigeria’s aviation challenge
* The crashes have spiritual undertone - Airways workers
Prope
Ac also sterling energy or Agip(ENI)
There have always been three or four large structures. I think at atleast three may be elephant sized.
Supposedly owned or partially owned by the late mohammed Waziri, he was controversial as an associate of OBJ but he is an in-law to Aminu Dantata which may help his remaining ventures when a potential northern goverment comes in. Dantata is looking out for her dauther and is close to babangida
Pup So any new info on JDZ? I think APC is drilling 2008 or late 2007. They may have a deal with conoil(who is in trouble now) for opl 257. Also Equator reported 200m net oil sand for bobo, that is way high, if true that could be a 2 billion barrel field. One may suspect a notable writer here may be mixing up the fields or the zones. I think the informant says close to real info but coincidentally in other fields at least my perspective.
Tuneman maybe wait for block 4 drilling. I suspect Obo could be a collection of minor fields, those are rumoured to be highly prospective in the niger delta zone(onshore)
sorry did not see the original. usually come here to post.
Pup OT
Do you have any idea about the Xom and Petrobras drilling results from Discovery. Also heard that shell found a huge field last year(bobo)
How is it naive? do you know the politics? even though I do not like him( I like his partner and original promoter) if he becomes to politicized when a new regime comes, they may kick him and put him in the corner. I like the partners better, I think ppl are underestimating there reach after the PSC.
Is Obasanjo behind the search. Obasanjo is going after atiku and some of its business partners, who knows he may be instigating the investigation. Rumour/fact has it the nigerian government is trying to get the FBI to investigate Atiku's business transactions in America. Maybe there lies Meridian's angle.
TFA
They do have a fund(more money is given to the state government about 13% of oil revenues)
Part of the issue is the local gangs favoritism towards their mentors the state and hostility towards the oil companies and the federal government. Some of those gangs were used by the state governments in times of election and for other purposes. However, the decadent past was to blame presently they could be what I term progress
Pup upstream is reporting that Total may use Stena (now in GOM) to drill Akpo. Then does that leave DWD open because it was originally slated for akpo drilling or as usual Upstream comes up short again,...... and again.
Also I think Obo info may be public(maybe)...... the potential drilling of main target in the future. But I will try and see if they are keeping it a lid or not.
Anadarko
Noble has anadarko with option on a rig starting Jan 2008. The rig though is suitable for <6000 ft. I think block 3 is 1700-2000 ft but it may matter because the rig is operating in Nigeria for Exxon
DWD likely with Petrobras, was in Equatorial Guinea. It seems rigzone is right. So maybe follow rigzone for drilling in West Africa
http://www.equatorexploration.com/press/documents/Corporate%20Presentation%20June%202006.pdf
Check page 33, I am not sure if has been posted but it does have more info on our side
Pup I did get a comfirmation of sort that DWD is in Equatorial guinea.
"Now that BM inndicate otherwise" that BM's info can be confirmed
alwright post 55899
"John - The intermediate string was run and set but the production casing was never run in this well.
The well has been P&A'd. This is a normal exploration event and process. This well was never drilled to produce. It was drilled to collect information.
Pup"
Spec it rarely happens in nigeria. For all who care there is an agency called the department of petroleum resources, they approve all drilling activities in Nigeria. However, in the JDZ, the JDA is the authority, there policy at least in action have been operators or technical advisers drilling wells. If you want to know more about drilling you can contact the DPR or the NNPC group online and ask for drilling actiivities, it is actually public information! and please it is mho
Strass give me a break, that is a stupid comment, I am not interested in this board, if acutally understand me. I am acutally trying to help you guys. If you have no idea what outsiders think about erhe then continue looking for stupid investors while the smart money walks
Strass give me a break, CVX is the operator, I doubt Xom will be allowed to drill on the block. when transocean wrote CVX/XOM mostly means XOm will drill in another block not the same block. Enough of the excessive speculative writing it only damages this board, you guys welcomed too many people. Interesting that many of you now say CVX leased it to XOM through aug most likely then they drilled a hole and maybe a test well then till next year that's if they leased it to XOM. and yes it give credence to the report that CVX will drill an exploratory well(not an appraisal or test well) next year. And if they did drill an appraisal well or a well named OBO two and came out with at least 150(probably 200ft) then it is better to forget about a lot of oily's posts.
Pup, what about the idea that the well was drilled far from the boundary line of block 2, also though it does not matter, chevron may have indicated interest in block 2 in feb after looking at some drilling results, why?
And about the well, they still have two other A prospects and maybe some prospects close by, supposedly egina prospects are close by, they may try a tie back to a main field. I think that may be the thinking, if they are small 300-250mmbo field cluttered together.
DWD, I read somewhere not 100% sure that petrobras may have had the rig after CVX, but that is pure specualtion, any insights?
Tuneman sadly not much however it depends on the thickness and the can I say width of the reservoir. If it does straddle then it would be great but to me a let down, let's see what we can know more that is why I come to this boards
Stun the reality is the idea of one well was kind of known, all I have read from media reports was a well but who knows. Energy intelligence wrote the same thing. Maybe oily is trying to throw some things there to make his posts look obscure. But it would be funny with all the third well this or that going on.
Acutally nothing much in terms of the JDz but they do show some new wells in the EEZ
