All well and good...... but where is NeoMedia? They have blown it too many times and just because this technology gains ground, doesn't mean NeoMedia will do well. IMO they have dug the well too deep.
Boy are you right.
I have held some NeoMedia for more than 5 years, and the eternal
"just wait for tomorrow" gets old.
Yea..... R/S has really helped NeoMedia in the past.....
For the past 5 years (or more), there have been many, many arguments on this board regarding patents. Some felt that NEOM "owned the bridge", others felt the patents can be easily bypassed.
I would not buy NEOM for the patents. We can hope -- but, IMO the chances are small. There are simply too many other ways to code the function(s), and their overall "system" includes mostly commercially available code integrated with their relatively small "protected" code.
You are right, Mike. Lots of lack of interest. I, for some unknown reason, have kept my shares -- but have lost interest and only check on this board (and on the stock) about every 6 months. Lots of potential in the market area, but just don't believe NEOM will get there.
Second reason for not checking the board is the unrealistic positions of many members. It seems like anyone that is (or has been) realistic about the company is either banned from the board, heckled, or both. Unfortunately, at a SHM a couple of years ago I met a few people that had bought significant amount of NEOM stock because of some of the "pumpers" on this board. That's really sad - and I haven't participated much since then.
Response not necessary --- won't be back for a while.
-Roger
thanks.....
Your response is rude and unnecessary. I hope you have better investment sense than common courtesy.
SPIN - can't write private note.... but THANKS for the info you have sent...
Haven't been inside in a few weeks...but drive by the building every few days --- lots of cars and "seemingly" productive activity.
Well....this IS a lot of rednecks here in Florida....
Maybe they will just vote for the local firm...!
Right you are.... Sitting back and waiting on IP is a sure path to failure. I sure would like to see NEOM getting ahead on delivering FUNCTION and value to their customers - and the end users.
First, with the note to stockholders, I was again a little hopeful for Neom, and now it appears Scanbuy has done it again. Here is a previous note regarding the Scanbuy patent.
It appears that Scanbuy's patent covers decoding of a barcode (and other machine readable codes) at either the mobile phone OR the server. They claim this is dependent entirely on the processing capabilities of the mobile device.
It's also interesting to note that they covert pictures to grey scale, thus do not use color as a factor in their processing. They have the option to continuously take a picture without having the user keep clicking - until they are able to resolve the code. There are many objectives like not impacting device performance and handling many lighting conditions. But, it is difficult to determine what is only objectives, and how much they can actually accomplish.
I would expect they are now implementing via this patent, and moving away from what MIGHT have been a violation of NEOM patents.
Thanks, Brew
Will do in the next couple weeks. But.... I would not expect that anyone would be able to say anything that is not public knowledge.
Well....sure haven't seen them demonstrate the values but maybe that's speculation... Have been to the account classes for a major software corporation - and the demonstration of those values is a key area for assisting in sales.
I am also one of those who is tired of the mindless speculation of what is going on behind the scenes. Of course there is activity going on. I drive by each week, and there are still cars in the parking lot. So what!! .... the question is of what value is all the activity. They have blown so many opportunities - I, for one, no longer trust management. And we still have the same person selecting new people, so why are the these people going to be any better than the last. "TRUST ME" just doesn't do it.
I would really like to see NEOM come out of all these challenges - but will wait for tangible evidence. If Chas was really an effective account manager .... he SHOULD know what needs to be done, but doesn't seem to. This whole area is no longer distant technology and is now focusing on value to end customers along with the benefits to marketing companies. NEOM just doesn't seem to be able to effectively demonstrate those values (at least to the public) -- and all good account executives know that is a key to increasing business.
Can we PLEASE get this board back to the topics? As a newbie, I really don't care about the bickering. One can tell a pumper or basher pretty quickly, but --- what I would like is some more insights into the company and industry. Isn't that what this board is for..???

Anyone guess how this patent might relate to current legal situation? I would expect they are now implementing via this patent, and moving away from what MIGHT have been a violation of NEOM patents.
Not much of substance at first meeting....but, no it's not a garage.
Wish it were a 100% increase....
Nothing else is new. Visited today after exchange on this board. If you don't like it....don't read it.
Brief visit to Innovia. Since I am about a mile from Innovia, I went by today for a brief visit. They are located in south Fort Myers about 1/2 mile from the main road between I 75 and Fort Myers Beach. The area is mixed condo/mobile and small businesses in single story buildings.
After walking in the door, the people were pleasant and Sheri Aws offered to do a brief tour. Walt and others were out of town. In half of the building, they have about 5 customer robots where the robots are being repaired, then hooked up with the URCs. One was working with URC3 and believe the others were older versions. There was no activity at the time, so I did not have a chance to talk with the technicians or see any operations. Sheri stated that this business was going well, and they are looking for additional space in the Fort Myers area. She also indicated there was good growth, and just couldn't discuss any of the "good" news that was coming. She didn't have any insights into recent stock drops, but understands the concerns with Cornell and the "news" driven stock value.
So...just a brief visit today - and not much substantive information. Overall, I was positive in that they took the time with a "walk-in" and were clearly proud of what they are doing.
Would be glad to follow-up, if arranged, and folks think it would provide value. I could not make the SHM, so don't have the benefit of that info.
BTW - my background is lots of years in software research/dev -- but only a little in process control systems.
Hope this provides some value.
Will do..... got me interested enough that I might drive up there shortly and see what kind of reception I get.
I don't have a big investment, but thought the the potential was worth watching....
Thanks....I am about a mile from there....will stop by in the next few days.
Got a valid address...instead of the PO Box. Haven't tried to look it up, but if someone has it....I just might ride over.
This board used to be fun...and sometimes educational to watch. Now it's turning worthless.
I know people like to gripe, or pump a stock, but let's get back to something worthwhile.
There are still many models that do not work. My Motorola does NOT, my wife's does. One of the problems is that when unique code is required for each specific make/model of phone, it is always a catch-up. And all of this code is more that NEOM has to maintain and enhance (resources and money. Fortunately, much of the NEOM "system" is code that is commercially available and they just stay up to date with those products.
I hope you are right...
Merry Christmas!
I sure hope all the "optimists" are correct and it comes back. But, based on the track record....
Clearly their "product" is more than a code reader - but I took Brew's note as only addressing that portion of qode.
Regarding investment -- I am a long term holder with very low cost - so will continue to hold, even while very frustrated with management and their approach to marketing. Just as an example -- the beta (pilot) COULD have been exciting and valuable. In my view, however, they had a lackluster effort that failed to demonstrate to users and potential customers a REALLY VALUABLE TOOL in qode. It's --- just sad.
I repeat, Brew's explaination is one of the best I have seen here. It is an area of my interest since I have a lot of background, but every time someone responds to questions in this area - they don't address the issues, or try to figure out what is "real". It seems that some folks just want a "blind faith" view, and not listen to anything else.
If one reviews NEOM IP, they are very specific processes and methodologies - as are all software patents. If ScanBuy copied code or used the defined methods - then, yes, they should lose. But, IMO, to think that all the bright software developers can not find other ways of providing these functions, is naive. A good portion of the NEOM "system" consists of commercially available software. Encoding and decoding pictures, translating a picture to barcode, table lookups, etc. are not NEOMs, and have been done for years. Their uniqueness is in specific areas and in their overall system of providing URL to the phone.
On the last point --- qode will NOT become the STANDARD, unless this company does things differently and is much more aggressive in the marketing arena - and if they get their strategy -solid- and quite going backward. As well as all the other challenges with finances and personnel, they really have to get ahead of competition with FUNCTION provided to their customers.
So WHAT do you mean by PLATFORM??? Please explain what and where you disagree with the note, without platitudes.
Brew has done one of the best explainations that I have seen on this board. Take it one step further and examine what code is commercially available, and what is unique to NEOM - and folks may understand why it is so easy to bypass NEOMs IP. As I have been saying for a long time....NEOM needs to focus on marketing a set of functions to customers - and quit trying to play the IP game. They should be able to save customers significant time/cost other alternatives like developing their own code - and provide a comprehensive package. Good story...if they could do a better job of demonstrating viability (I would bet the beta was a flop), and getting ahead of the game.
Right on. At the last SHM, I met two folks that had bought quite a few shares...partially from being swayed by posters here. It is a real shame when folks speculate, and try to make it sound like fact. Or, when someone is labeled as a basher, and dismissed without examining the issues.
JP, I certainly don't hold much hope for a big "deal" around the corner. For the past 2 years, it has always been something...just around the corner. And, management, they have repeatedly demonstrated incompetence. From the first SHM, I have been concerned about the quality of management, and unfortunately I just don't think they are up to the tasks.
Qode still has some potential... and that is why my shares are still riding. But, as many folks feel, it sure doesn't look to hopeful.
Wish it were different -- but still looking for that big announcement that shows RESULTS.
Some folks here need to take a software development class. Even in a beginning class, ten students will come up with 10 different ways to solve the same problem.
There is no "magic" that converts a picture from a phone to a URL. You are correct ... it is done by sending a specific format(e.g jpg) picture compressed data to a server. The server HAS to anyalyze the data, find information about the picture, then try to match to a data base, in order to find a URL. There are many, many visual search patents and methods/systems to do this - and IMO it is foolish to think that "any" conversion of a picture/code to a URL is covered by NEOM patents. NEOM has "A" system and "A" method - offers some good function, and needs to focus on marketing that package.
And, in the future when more processing power is available in phones, perhpas more of the server function will be put in the client. This would be a different "method/system" than most use today.
Ok, Brewskih. You have has some excellent posts. I sometimes have a problem with your confrontational style, but you do bring up some excellent points for consideration.
Keep good ideas comming...just not so prickley.
Excellent post, hangdog. I haven't caught up with the rest of the notes, but I think you reached a very good balance and perspective on the situation.
Two comments:
-At some point, would like to follow up on the IP. Understand your points, but disagree that NEOM IP on identifying user is the only way to do it. Also, concerned about the amount of code that NEOM is "owning" and the follow-on cost for maintenance and enhancement. Of course, the "phone" operating systems will evolve much like DOS did, and sometime in the future will incorporate more function, and provide much better interfaces for add-on programs.
-Lots of speculation about the 3rd party cost. IMO it was for analyst or someone that would help pump the stock price. Given NEOM's current financial position, that is a reasonable guess. Of course, some on the board think that is an absurd statement.
Appreciate your taking the time for this note.
Thanks. Appreciate the info.
However, with some background in software patents, I have been very concerned that their IP is not nearly as strong as some would indicate. From OP3, it sounds like they belive this violates the "system" IP --- not from a code standpoint. One difference is that "decoded" information is sent to the servers. With NEOM, a digitilized picture is sent and "decoded" at the server. There is currently not enough processing power in a phone (yet) to do much more than relatively simple processes, then rely on the server to check if it is a data from some kind of picture that can be matched with text or a barcode (or perhaps picture database for Mobot).
From a search perspective, there are LOTS of companies with many, many patents and research re visual search. NEOM is by definition involved in some search technology, both via Mobot and in matching a picture of a barcode/other printed code, with a database.
So, I am left with thinking that NEOM is relying on their definition of their "system" of providing user with a url. I hope they are correct, but think this is going to be difficult to prove violation of a patent when there are clearly differences. That is...execpt of course, if OP3 has embedded some code directly from NEOM.
NEOM - am very interested in the patent point, but in a quick scan of your previous notes, didn't see one. Can you point me to your point....
thanks
Good post, Brew. Don't want to nit-pick words, but you have some very good points.
Sounds like more of a dream list. I am a -long- and have held for quite some time....but also have a cost of near 0, which is why I will see it out. I guess I am just "absurd" for being more realistic .... and very disappointed in NEOM management.
Owning a stock doesn't mean looking only through rose colored glasses.
With all due respect: Absurdity is continually claiming a "big" partnership is just a few days away. Abusurdity is continuing to pump the stock in spite of the results for the past two years. Absurdity is giving good generic information on the technology, then trying to tie that to NEOM "success". Absurdity is acting like one has inside information, then, when called, claiming it is only speculation. And on...and on...
Thanks...I appreciate the note back.
