Another excellent choice,
I think they gave it to Manny for dissing him for so many years in the MVP race, although he did a nice job. All the pitchers came thru as you would expect of a Series Champ.
Wow!!! Crisp lays out in the outfield to save a run. Man this team isn't only not committing errors, they are really making some great plays too!
Papelbon time coming up, this team in unconcious!
So many to choose from,
if we are only talking the World Series I go with Foulke. If we talked the entire playoffs it had to be Popi, with cudos to Wakefield, Arroyo and of course, Schilling.
They are in a groove,
awesome defense, a home run, situational hitting. I hope they are doing it in October.
Heck, even Freddy Sanchez (ex-Red Sox) hits a walkoff for the Pirates to break their losing streak.
They are out nationaling the National League, it is fun!
3-2 Red Sox play small ball
Bunt hit by Crisp, steals second, Sac bunt by A-Gon and SF by Youks.
2-2,
two run homer by beltran followed by homer by Loretta, Ortiz doubled and scored on Varitek SF.
At the stretch.
That would of been Joel Sherman of the ny Post
Schilling getting nicked now, Beltran hit a two run homer, the first Schill has given up in Fenway this year.
Nice pitchers dual between Glavine and Schill,
I hope Glavine doesn't put the Sox into a funk going to Florida.
All gooseggs, middle of the fifth.
Tweety,
Thanks, I appreciate it.
excel,
thanks for the reply, but would you kindly explain to me what TOS I violated?
Is commenting that the person has acted worse since the Yankees have been in second worse than a lewd proposition?
I'm not trying to take a high road or any road here, this is a serious question because I am confused by this. I posted something not very nice and decided to censor myself a couple minutes after typing it concerning Bull, and could of expected censur if I had not done it myself.
Is Matt a Yankee fan? How would I contact him? Would the original poster be the one who would request a review or could anyone do it?
I may end up kicked off because of the large number of Yankee fans here, or because Chapter is holding a grudge, but they won't get me to leave on my own. I won't give them the satisfaction.
Thanks again.
My message was deleted,
while Susie telling me to stick it wasn't?
Well!
Would you mind explaining why?
Post Season odds:

Either way,
You still are very bitter. And, believe it or not, I find that sad.
Susie,
Some call you classy? really, you are becoming very bitter. The worse the Yankees fall off the worse your atitude!
Again, please stick to baseball.
Please do,
I want the conversation on baseball not on me. Please let us begin today!
Susie,
Please stick to baseball. You are not running me away.
Peg,
I agree about the "C". It certainly isn't needed. I think Varitek wears it as a sign of respect to those who voted for him. I seriously doubt it was his idea.
Since Boston is such a big hockey town, someone decided that he should wear a "C" like the Bruins Captains and most other hockey teams. At least that is my assumption.
I am sorry to disrupt your board. I would prefer to keep things about baseball. I have very strong opinions, and like in the real world, for many that is a lightning rod to attack. Especially as they relate to the Yankees.
"To thine own self be true" is a motto I live by and I have to be what I am. I don't sugar coat and I don't pussy foot, I never have and I never will. It doesn't always make me popular, but I am not running a popularity contest, I am simply stating my views.
Some decide when they can not make headway at one of these boards they take something that they know will be inflamitory to another board. It is really sad when they do it as a pretext of trying to bring peace when they know it will do just the opposite.
I certainly don't like to waste my time answering all the crap, but when attacked I fight back.
Red Sox take fourth straight series,
and win their eleventh in a row, 10-2 over the Mets. Beckett takes the win, Pedro the loss.
Peg, I understood it to be both of us.
Bullnbear,
Now I could call Manny a jerk but you know what? I'd be right.
Yes, you would, but it doesn't change my opinion of the brawl inducing yankee catcher of the 70's. It also is irrelevent as to whether he is currently dead or alive. He was a jerk while he was alive.
Why is this personal? Are you Mrs. Munson?
My dislike of the Yankees is primarily because of Mr. Munson and the teammates he had at the time. Rivers, Jackson, Billy Martin, Steinbrenner, Hunter, Nettles, Chambliss, pretty much the whole team. Before them, I had respect for what the Yankees had accomplished in the past.
BTW, I don't need facts for an opinion. I need facts if I am discussing facts. Even when I induced Mr. or Mrs. 26 into stating the facts I meant I was pillaged by you and your buddies.
When they (the 70's yanks) couldn't win they fought. I see some of that mentality on the boards today.
ric,
Keeping the peace is not dragging controversial comments from other boards to this one. My comments in the last 30 have been to stop the personal attacks and talk baseball.
The Red Sox are on one heck of a streak, I am enjoying it while it lasts. Who would of thought they would score ten runs, and maybe more on a night Pedro came to town.
My luck they will cool off and the Devil Rays will trounce them while I am there next week. Such is the nature of the game.
Bullnbear,
Munson was a jerk-my opinion on a Yankee player.
Your characterizations of me are off topic and unnecessary, please discuss baseball.
Thanks.
Peg,
Thanks. I do respect your opinions and despite the mud slinging your hands remain clean. I appreciate that, I really do.
Bullnbear,
I think he was sending a message to all of us and using my comment as a way to do that. I certainly hope that is the case and it is a valid one.
However, I will not tolerate personal attacks just because of what Excel said. I think we should all talk baseball.
I don't expect Yankee fans to agree with me, but the personal stuff should just stop. 26's insistance at continuing an assault just because I felt that they were more similar to Ruth and Gehrig than Mantle and Maris was over the top, as were your rude remarks as well.
Now let us please put this crap behind us and discuss baseball. My opinions are no more right or wrong than anyone elses. Let us learn each others opinions without all the personifications, shall we?
Ric,
Please talk baseball, not about me.
Thanks.
chapter54,
Munson was a jerk. Now you want to start it over here.
Please talk baseball, not me. Thanks.
Bullnbear,
Edited by vicocala for language and extreme violence. Please keep your personal comments out of the board. I have tried to be sociable the last couple of days but you are making it very difficult.
Please, let's stay on baseball.
FA,
No doubt he is having a super year. Cathchers tend to wear down as the season progresses so I would tend to think as the year goes on his ave will see a decline.
His youth will work in his favor, but it will be interesting to see just how much endurance he has. If the Twins come back and win their division I think he would have a good chance at the MVP, depending on what Ortiz and the Red Sox do.
I highly doubt he would win if the Twins end the season out of the playoffs. Not that he might not deserve it, but those writers aren't always known for making the right decision. ;)
Excel,
He has never shown me much in the games I have seen but his ERA was under four. To me, they are going backward with Jae though. He had an ERA near six which translates to probably around eight or nine in tropicana. Six in Chavez ravine is pretty brutal.
They must of really wanted Naverro.
Best wishes to Gammo,
Peter Gammons at Mass. General with a brain aneyorism (sp) per folks at royalrooters.com a Red Sox message board.
I believe you are right,
I am a bit suprised the Rays traded Toby Hall in that deal. Naverro will be younger and cheaper, but Toby is one of the fan favorites.
Hendrickson wasn't very special. His claim to fame was that he was an ex-basketball player.
Devil Rays and Dodgers make trade
LOS ANGELES -- The Tampa Bay Devil Rays traded pitcher Mark Hendrickson and catcher Toby Hall to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday for pitcher Jae Seo, minor league catcher Dioner Navarro and a player to be named.
Bill,
While you have a valid point, the best solution would be for both leagues to play with the same rules. I prefer the DH, there is more excitement seeing David Ortiz come to the plate than to see Denny Neagle come into a game to relieve and wonder where he will be batting in the lineup thanks to a double switch.
At least in my opinion.
As to other posters, I have already repeatedly stated that Ortiz does not play first base bescause of defense, but to preserve his body. He never played more than 125 games with Minnesota because his knees gave out playing.
Youk has over a .400 OBP and is young and can cover a lot of ground, it makes sense to have Ortiz on the bench to DH and Youk to be on the field.
Ortiz does quite well when placed in the field, and two of the errors last year came when the webbing in his glove broke. That is strange but it is true, I saw the games.
Susie,
And what is the point? Just because he doesn't play doesn't mean he isn't a capable fielder. By him not playing he allows Youk to bat which he wouldn't if Ortiz was playing.
One of the biggest values he brings which isn't discussed nearly enough is the fact that he keeps teams honest in pitching to Manny. You and some writers may not see how much that affects how a game is played, but I can assure you it carries much more of an effect over a season than does one defensive players prowess over an other.
The managers in MLB certainly understand that.
One of the reasons Giambi isn't considered more is because of his poor defense. I think bad defense should be a reason for you not to win it, but not playing defense or playing it sparingly should not.
RE: Ortiz and defense
After going back and checking his defense while in Boston he has actually done very well. Other than last year when he committed four errors in ten games he has done very well. Suprisingly, in a small sample of only five games this year, he has a better zone rating than Youk or Snow.
2003 45 games played .992 F%
2004 45 games played .986 F%
2 games in World Series 1.000 Fielding %
2005 10 games played .976 F%
2006 5 games played 1.000 F%
So one could argue that 2005 was flukeishly bad only over ten games and is pretty darn good the other years, so the idea of Ortiz being bad defensively is a myth.
Peg,
I think the current set of rules favor the NL teams. I don't really see the strategy aspect of the NL to be an overpowering argument. The AL still has bunting, moving players along by situation hitting, etc. It is very boring to me to see pitchers come up and make almost automatic outs.
I know some don't and Beckett has a home run and an rbi single in the games he has pitched and batted in, but that is by far the exception than the rule.
When I say the rules favor the NL teams, I mean that AL teams have to put pitchers in the batter's box when they are not normally accustomed to being there while the NL simply uses their top pinch hitter, usually.
Ortiz has made no errors in the field this year, but unfortunately the Red Sox have had to sit one of the threesome of Ortiz/Youk/Lowell each game they play in a NL park.
As the Red Sox have only lost one game at a NL park this year, the Sox have been fortunate. But it is primarily that the NL is so much weaker than the AL right now.
I do like the idea if the disparity continues of using the DH in NL parks instead of AL parks to show the different styles to the fans of the other league though. Perhaps that would be enough to create a move to using the same rule in both leagues, whichever they decided to do.
Bill,
I think you meant that post to me to go to RB instead of here, but I will keep an eye out should I ever make it out to the western wilderness. LOL
Excel,
I will try, but it is a two way street. As I said, they often times can not take legit critisisms of their team. I know some Sox fans here try to joke their way around it, but the gang up atitude doesn't make it easy.
Excel,
Sounds good to me. I post in a "all Red Sox or nothing" kind of mode a lot of times as satire toward the Yankee fans. Many times they seem to feel as if nothing good comes from anywhere but New York.
I have seen it on this board, at Raging Bull and at Yankee fan sites. If you speak out, they gang up on you. It is a shame, especially since they inevitably resort to personal attacks if you don't succomb to their line of reasoning.
I know I have even embarressed some Red Sox fans with the posting style, but for some reason satire doesn't seem to be appreciated here.
The mere idea that Manny and Ortiz have done things that have only been done by Ruth and Gehrig even seems to be to much for them to handle, despite trying to make clear what I meant by it.
If you look at some of the posts today, you would of thought I spit on Mantle and Maris' graves. It is a real shame.
Alex Rodriquez?
Yes at one time, as well as a former Seattle Mariner.
It is a game,
You all are the ones who are getting argumentative over opinions and freaking out. I am just sitting here laughing at your reactions.
