Well Langastino,
I would say a guy with average range wouldn't of been on the ground in the first place so it should of been an error. Secondly, it wouldn't even be on the fielding of the ball, but rather on the errant throw. He never should of thrown the ball and since he did, he pulled the fielder off the bag and allowed a second run to score. The second run should be accounted for by an error even if the first is not.
So ramble on that for a while.
dm,
You didn't answer my question. LOL
Actually the names I have used have come from folks on Red Sox boards, I haven't invented them. And yes Matsui does have a nickname, "Shemp". I think with the shape of his face the name fits.
Unlike some Yankee fans, I think the nicknames denote a certain amount of respect. Kinda like the Yankees being booed in other towns. At least it shows they are known and followed.
I hope he makes it back for his sake. I also hope he makes it back because I don't want to hear the excuses when they lose their spot at the top of the division this season.
Is that you RB Bull?
It looks like a post I saw there this morning. The funny thing is the current Red Sox look a lot more like the Yankees than the Yankees do. Pitching, defense and hitting when it's needed.
The Yankees look more like the old Red Sox, getting aging old stars to try to compete while having not the best pitching around.
I guess it is true, what goes around, comes around.
Can anyone let me know the weather situations for tonight in New York and Boston?
http://www.ragingbull.lycos.com/mboard/boards.cgi?board=DUGOUT&read=66062
According to the New York Times
Bernie's was reversed and it is a double. That isn't what I saw in ESPN's boxscore though.
No errors hurt the Yankee pitchers and help the Boston batting ave.'s, so I am not complaining, I just thought they got em wrong in the first place.
It was also interesting that George and newspapers didn't lash out at Jeter the way they did A-rod two nights before.
Why bring this up? Because I think it goes back to the Jeter being overrated stuff again. If he doesn't take or get the blame for his miscue's it is easy to see why other players think he would be overrated.
In any event,
I think both calls were wrong. Jeter should of had an error and Williams error should not of occurred. Williams may of erred in judgement by overrunning the baseball but that isn't a physical error as he never touched the ball.
If you go by that critera, Jeter should of definatley had an error because he should of held the ball and kept the lead runner from scoring.
It is a very slippery slope though if you start judging scoring decisions based on what someone might be thinking.
Jeter's throw was a physical error, it was up the baseline. Bernie's was not.
The other scoring pique' I have these days is giving a hit when a fielder ole's a ball and then they say it took a bad hop. Today's players just aren't playing sound fundamental defense.
Political Scoring?
I found it interesting the way the official scorer handled things last night. DErEk JEtEr should of had two errors last night, with his errant throw. The fact that it was knocked out of Cairo's hand shows a good throw would of been an out.
There are two E's in Derek and two E's in Jeter and he should of had two E's last night.
On the other hand, although Bernie Williams never touched the fly ball that should of been ruled a ground rule double, he was charged with a two run error.
I have seen numerous fly balls that have dropped in for hits thanks to wind shifts that were not called errors.
A little protection for the captain of the team and a little jab at the guy the Yankee's would of gladly dumped this year if not for the fans?
That is the way I see it.
Best wishes to Matsui, you hate to ever see anyone injured, especially when they go all out on a play.
The Yankees have dodged death
more times than a cat. Balls ruled foul, two balls caught over the fence and the Sox just not knocking the umpteen billion guys in that have been on base. Credit to the Yankees for hanging in there and a big raspberry to the Sox for not getting the job done.
That said, GO SOX!!
Chapter 54,
Clemens may of been exhibiting "roid rage" at the time himself.
Just sayin.....
Which is why last time I went
last year, I took the T in from Alewife and will always do so in the future.
And yes, that was not cool. I would of been furious. I wonder how many lawsuits may develop?
I got this at the Orioles Hangout
I thought it was funny.
http://www.kickina.com/chokeback/
Agreed,
And Washington will probably be the spot they land, whichever one it is.
Although it would be bad for the Red Sox, it would sure be funny if they both went together. How would the press spin that? LOL
Peg,
this is the latest on Wells from Rotoworld this morning:
David Wells - Starting Pitcher
David Wells (knee) threw approximately 75 pitches in a bullpen session Wednesday.
Wells is expected to pitch a simulated game Saturday before starting next Thursday at Triple-A. 'His arm looks great to me, it always does," manager Terry Francona said. 'I think we felt pretty good about him the first time and then it kind of fell apart." May. 11 - 9:26
Note the last line, hence my skepticism.
Edit: Yeah, I am hearing thunder! I hope it means rain and not just lightening!!
Never heard that Theo didn't sign a contract, maybe he just wants things open ended to see if it works out this time.
Stop being such a troll,
these are public BB's not your private e-mail.
Peg,
No, just the way they have the rotation setup. Number one only means something on opening day and in the playoffs anyways.
I am not even sure if Boomer will be back. There has been talk on rotoworld of it being during the next Yankee series, but his condition has went back and forth. I am betting on his retirement before the summer is out, myself.
OT:
I wish her well, she isn't that far away from me. We live at the edge of the Ocala National Forest and alerts have been up for a while.
I am about 55 miles due west of Daytona to give you a reference point.
I hope so,
I wish they would send some of the rain down our way, we have been having a lot of fire alerts. We got .2 of an inch of rain a couple days ago, but that was about the first measurable rainfall since late February. Our local golf course has a pretty big pond and it is bone dry. Amazing!
Peg,
He isn't quite the 2002 Schilling he was painting himself to be, but on the other hand, he isn't the 2005 version either.
He doesn't have the same zip on the ball he did in his younger days and last night it was mostly a matter of command. Those homers were right down the middle of the plate.
My guess is he will win around 15-17 games with a final ERA between 3.75 and 4.00. Not great, but good enough to be a factor in the AL East race.
His weight loss is suppossedly from being more mobile this winter which allowed him to exercise more.
Beckett was encouraging as his replacement ace in the first game after giving up Giambi's blast, but he has been either brilliant or awful in his starts to date, so I feel the jury is out on him.
Congrats Yankee fans,
On winning the latest football game, 7-3. Hopefully Wakes will carry us thru to victory tonight.
Are you going to beat this
like a dead horse too? Or are you always just trolling, starting arguments. That is what I see anyway.
Lang,
You do beat dead horses to death. Give it up already.
Bull says,
"Looks like the sox fans are coming out of the woodwork. Question is where will they be in October."
In New York taking on the Mets in the World Series, unless it is St. Louis".
Schilling's turn to look old. (eom)
Although this will probably jinx it,
Damon is O for Boston since switching sides.
Career wise Mussina is 17-14 against the Red Sox and hasn't beaten them since the 2004 ALCS.
I would of thought Mussina had a much better record than that against us. He seems to own us most of the time.
Bill,
Guess we finally find out who the gay players are.
Actually it was Arroyo,
but the thought still stands. He chokes when he plays the Red Sox.
Anyone just see Bernie get ejected,
He threw his batting helmet back toward the umpire. This is starting to become an alarming happening.
Do you honestly believe that?
That is just to darn funny. Give the man credit.
I just hope
Schilling doesn't look old tomorrow.
Randy,
Sure looked old tonight. Beckett isn't doing a whole lot better giving up the homer to Giambi. But Johnson was really, really wild. A lot of them weren't even close.
Wow, A-rod just got another error!
Craddock,
I look forward to it. :o)
Bull,
What do you mean? They called it an error.
Johnson leaving the game. Wow, I have never seen him pitch so wildly before.
Sorry Craddock,
I guess you guys are a stickler on the replies. No that was directed to my friends in New York. :o)
Thank You Alex Rodriquez,
You guys oughta just bench him when he plays us. He is the epitomy of "choke". Between him and Johnsons's wildness he just cost three runs.
It sure is quiet around here
when eveyone is playing nice. hehe
Congrats Bill,
I know you are very excited. I enjoyed the picture too, thanks.
I like her little white foot. LOL
Peg,
Who could not like Joe Torre? Heck he even gets his way with George, which is no small accomplishment. ;o)
After Torre was announced with Prostate surgery he got a standing ovation at Fenway and stated it was the most touching moment of his career. He had his team out celebrating the Red Sox championship. He is the kind of guy you want for a role model for your kids.
I may have a strong dislike for the Yankees, but Joe Torre is a class gentleman.
As for the Sox, amazing isn't it? No matter who is on the team the Fenway Magic always brings them out of a funk. They looked horrible in the last road trip. Hopefully they take the homestand and make something good happen in the Bronx.
I will be very interested to see how Beckett fares, I am sure he won't be adored by Yankee fans and he has been shelled the last couple starts. I hope he isn't hurt and I hope his competitive juices pull him together.
The Yankees have been rolling as well. It should be another good series.
Congratulations to Joe Torre on his 1000th win
I just hope he doesn't get another for at least four more days. LOL
Bull,
"And now he has produced a baseball-savvy book sensitive to the social context that made Clemente, a black Puerto Rican, a leading indicator of baseball's future. Clemente was not the first Latino player, but as the first Latino superstar — the National League's first Latino batting champion and M.V.P. — he propelled baseball's "southern strategy" for finding talent."
This is why I feel both he and Jackie Robinson are overrated. It is more about them being cival rights symbols than ballplayers. Yes, they had to be very good in order for a team to take a chance on them (Robinson) or have a good story in an area baseball wanted to expand in (Latin America), but that doesn't make them the best at their positions, only the best PR for "inclusiveness".
Bull,
Brother Derek, looks like he was overrated too. ;o)
Red Sox announce starters for Yankee Series:
per the Boston Herald:
" the Red Sox will bypass Matt Clement’s next turn in the starting rotation and go with the threesome of Josh Beckett, Curt Schillng and Tim Wakefield against the New York Yankees in a three-game series that begins Tuesday. All three Sox pitchers will be going on full rest because the Sox have an off-day on Monday."
