Thanks, Andrew,
Now that I am back in LA, I will be in close contact with my Dr. I'm monitoring my BP, and should it go too low, I will go to an urgent care facility near our house. I am not having as much diarrhea as before, so I think that the medication are starting to work.
Gary
Riley, the Dr. where the girl presented wanted to do what was right, do a spinal tap and administer an antibiotic. The bean-counter at the insurance company said they'd do the tap, just stabilize and transport. The Dr. knowing the tap would be meaningless if an antibiotic was administered brought the fever down, but it was about 12 hours and the girl was in sepsis. This all occurred because in the past the presenting hospital wasn't reimbursed when the did what was right, but did so against what was authorized. The Drs. knew what was right, the bean-counters were really who killed the girl. In testimony it was stated that if all the antibiotics were listed on a wall and you threw a dart at it, anything you hit would have saved the girl.
I was always bothered when my Dr. after struggling for some time on one drug told me that there was something better and I'd proved that I needed it. It was accountants, IE bean-counters, who told him what he could, or couldn't prescribe. I really believe that we'd get better medicine and bring down costs if the accountants were largely fired, and the Drs. decided what was best for the patient. Yes, the drug cost might be greater, but look at all the accountants that you wouldn't have to pay.
Today it's often up to the patient to research their conditions and suggest possibilities to their Drs. I've been told more than once that if they have to fight the insurance company I'll be charged a fee for them doing so, but so far my insurance not only covered the product, often it was free to me.
Gary
I've had diarrhea since last Sunday night, mild fever a couple times, limited heaving, I'd say I had symptoms. I really have to push liquids and foods down as I really don't feel hungry or thirsty. I frankly could use losing 20 lbs or so, if I could keep it off, but I understand that most of what I'm losing is water weight, and it can easily come back, as it did after all the chemo for leukemia. Fortunately, I went off all chemo about a year ago, so that's not a concern.
One question, if the symptoms do go away, I know I'm supposed to take the full 10 day antibiotic protocol, but without symptoms, am I still infectious. I'm planning to largely be isolated, but wondering if I feel better if it would be safe to go out.
Gary
Sorry to hear of your loss Druggie, but happy you were able to hold the hospital responsable.
I once sat on a jury where a 8 year old presented with a 107 fever and failed to be given an antibiotic. Two different medical plans were involved and both were fined 7 figures for their lack of proper care. The girl was asplenic, and while she'd been sick often during her brief life, a test was never done to discover it. The attorney was also a Dr. and he clearly presented the case while the witnesses for the hospitals were clearly hacks just trying to create confusion. The millions may have been great for the single parent mother, but I'm sure she'd rather have had her daughter back.
Gary
Thanks Tom, I have started probiotics with Vancomycin, but was advised not to take the Pepto Bismol again, I took a ton of it in Gualala. On Monday I'll inform my Dr. that C-Diff has been found and see if he changes what I'm doing. After having sauerkraut I actually had a semi-solid movement, it may be that I really needed that.
I'm really trying to take in a lot of liquid, adding hydrating supplements to the water most of the time. Does anyone make their own Kombucha, I saw a documentary about doing it, but never tried. Now I'll purchase it, but haven't yet done so. I can't say I love it, or other things that are supposed to be good for me, but I'll take them.
Gary
Druggie, while I agree that many intentionally lie about NWBO, I don't believe anyone here would suggest something that is harmful to me, or anyone else here, healthwise. Most everything I've seen I've also found research backing it. Not everyone agrees on everything. I would like to have caffeinated coffee, but am told not to as they're dehydrating. Meanwhile I've got Dr. friends who've assured me that you get hydration from coffee, etc. Perhaps not as much as just drinking water, but it's still hydrating. I'm curious what others believe about it and whether the caffeine itself is harmful.
I frankly hate hearing that people have experience with deaths caused by C-Diff not being properly diagnosed, or treated. I'm just glad we went into urgent care in Gualala, had we just fought off the diarrhea with Pepto, or Imodium and not had cultures taken I could have been far sicker by the time we knew what it was. I'm frankly uncertain if the Urgent Care facilities here would have taken all the samples on initial visits with the problems.
Gary
I just started on Vancomycin, also taking probiotics, sauerkraut, yogurt, etc. I hope some of the things I'm taking for the C-Diff don't further irritate the Norovirus. As for fecal transplants, I don't see that unless other therapies aren't getting the job done.
It's funny that certain milk products shouldn't be used, yet others like yogurt and hard cheeses are thought to be good. Our druggist said no pickles, but much of the literature says to use them, I suspect that they're fine if in natural pickling spices, but not if they're preserved in vinegar, anyone know for sure.
For something as dangerous as C-Diff seems to be, it would seem like a technique for more rapidly testing for it should be getting greater priority. I know in my case each time the hospital suspected that I could have it I was isolated for several days before I got an all clear. Generally I was still suffering with diarrhea from the chemo, but it wasn't C-Diff. To my knowledge this is the first time I've gotten it.
Gary
I'm sorry to hear that. It does take several days to know if C-Diff is present, my sample was taken last Monday. I don't know if it would have been wise to treat before knowing even when they suspect it.
Gary
Ex, do you, or anyone else have advice for handling both C-Diff and Norovirus together, my culture in Gualala just came through and I have both. They are prescribing antibiotics. My wife doesn't have it, but they speculated that she may have had it and gotten better while passing it to me.
I know that hospitals are very concerned with C-Diff as chemo generally gave me diarrhea so practically every time I had a hospital stay I was isolated until they determined it wasn't C-Diff, it never was, but until they knew the nurses, etc all gowned up, the Drs. ignored it.
I suspect the C-Diff + Norovirus diet will really take the lbs off.
Gary
I can't say with certainty that there will be news this week, but if I were in the area I believe with, or without news, it would be worthwhile to get a chance to speak directly with key people there. I can't say it would be headline making, but the few times I've spoken with certain key people in a company left me with a feeling that all was well, just give it time. I believe that's the case here.
If I'm wrong about the company taking 60 days because of RFI's, then it will be longer, I'd guess at sometime in August, but I don't think it must take that long, only that it could.
Gary
We're in complete agreement. Sadly, all too often the people keeping great products from the public are the regulators charged with making our lives better. It's one thing to be absolutely certain that a headache med is completely safe. It's another thing to keep products that are giving many with deadly diseases off the market because more proof is being demanded.
EUA's should be issued years before formal approval for products that are clearly benefitting people with deadly diseases. Let the Drs. and patients decide on what they want to use while the data builds to the point the regulator is satisfied with it. If all EUA data is gathered and clearly showing benefits, no formal application for approval should be required.
In NWBO's case, I believe when the German's made the case that all should receive the vaccine, that should have been sufficient to issue an EUA permitting DCVax's sale nearly everywhere. This would of course be a revolution in drug development, it should greatly reduce the cost and time required to sell products, but I doubt anything like it will happen. In the case of Covid-19 EUA's were used to make vaccines available many months earlier. The vaccines may not have been perfect, but I believe that lives were saved even by the worst of them.
While what you say is true, can you imagine what would happen in our schools, colleges, universities if the average grade was C's.
I'm reminded of the story where a newer manager was asked to fire an employee he'd graded as exceptional, the second highest rating. The senior manager simply stated that we only retain outstanding employees. The manager upgraded his rating.
Do you know the title given to the lowest graduate in medical school? It's DR.
Gary
LC, you're speaking like someone who doesn't believe that giving patients more time, time that they want, but not curing them is unsuccessful. By that logic, billions that are being spent on patients with the likes of pancreatic cancer, etc is just money being wasted, as the ultimate outcome is death. Of course in truth that's the ultimate outcome for all of us, the idea is putting more days, months, or years into our lives before that ultimate outcome.
Dr. Liau clearly is working to cure patients, and perhaps the day will come where nearly all are cured, but until that time she's given a great deal of additional time to many patients, though many may not be cured. I don't think anyone can doubt her success to date, but clearly her success is just continuing to grow with time as she improves on the treatment.
Gary
Thanks RS,
Does anyone know if once approved the UK will either lessen the cost for those already in the compassionate use program, or perhaps completely eliminate it.
I suppose the bigger question may be, after approval will people who're not UK citizens still be able to get the vaccine through compassionate use, or does that program go away leaving all to wait for approval elsewhere. I think we've all heard of people from the US and elsewhere who've been treated in the UK or Germany. I would hope that such treatment remains available after approval as it could be some time before it's approved elsewhere.
Gary
Thanks Ex, I know that. The first days in Gualula they did an IV as my blood pressure went very low. Since returning home I'm monitoring the BP and it's staying in a good range thus far. I know it's mostly water I'm losing, so I expect I'll put back most of the weight once I'm okay, but hopefully I can keep at least some of it off.
Hopefully this eases in the next couple days, most of the literature seems to say it only lasts a few days, but I'm older and somewhat immune compromised, so I guess it's a greater problem for me. It's good to be home, where we have bidet's, it does make a difference.
Gary
Is anyone planning to attend the meeting live, rather than on the webcast. The big advantage of being there should be an opportunity to speak one on one with key people from the company before or after the public webcast of the official business and any remarks the company makes or questions they answer to all before closing the webcast.
It's up to the company as to how much, if any, one on one exposure they permit. At IMGN I know there were years where they were open to it, but others when they walked away as soon as the meeting ended. Much depends on just how open they care to be at the time of the meeting.
Gary
I was surprised to receive a call from the company intended for my wife and daughters. Each have relatively small shares, but they hadn't voted and with their permission, I voted for them. I'm sure they'd like the vote to be favorable, but they also clearly want it to be as complete as possible. I think that there is little doubt that each measure will pass, but they'd prefer it not be close.
By the way, I've found the fastest way I've heard of for weight loss, Norovirus. That's what we got in Gualala last weekend, and it's still running through us. I'm down about 12 lbs in 6 days. I suggested to my wife that we put a TV tray by the toilet, then we can eat at the same time we're disposing of the food. Imodium allowed me to fly, but medically they don't want patients to use it except in extreme situations, allowing the disease to pass through the body.
Frankly if I were down about another 10 lbs I'd be at a good body weight, but this really isn't how to do it, and if it happens I know it will be tough to keep the weight off. I don't recommend this diet to anyone.
Gary
They could authorize say 3 billion shares, but a simple 1 for 2 reverse split would be all that is necessary to do what is needed at the time. Grow the share price and then determine if other action is needed.
Gary
They decided that the EDEN would be needed to meet US demand, so the UK is first as Sawston manually can meet British demand while the EDEN Unit is gaining acceptance. It's a financial decision as the cost of building sufficient individual cleanrooms in the US was unacceptable.
Gary
There is no doubt about the capability of AI. I however believe that it's Core Optics who really made the determination about what the company should be worth, and I believe they're giving current Coretec owners far more credit for what their technology should be worth over what it's being valued at today. Post merger I believe our share price will be dramatically higher, perhaps not high enough to immediately move to a big exchange, but perhaps in striking distance without a reverse split, or with a very small one.
Gary
They stated that no RFI had been requested in the first quarterly, delivered after 4 months into the year. I believe that was at a date which exceeded the time normally alloted to ask for RFI. If I'm wrong about that, I apologize, but that's the way I understand their system works. If they were subsequently asked for information, I believe the delay would amount to the time they took to deliver it. They've got up to 60 days to do so, but certainly don't need to take all that time if they have the answers readily available. With 1.7 million pages in their filing I find it difficult to imagine anything of substance missing.
If there is no news by Tuesday, I'll concede that I'm wrong and wait to hear from the company about what they're anticipating when they report on Saturday. On the other hand if I'm right, then the company has done a masterful job of burning the shorts who've believed in the 60 day delay scenario.
Gary
Mike, I'm considering the language in the quarterly in which they stated nothing had been requested by the time they issued, and I believe that time was beyond the period the regulators were free to issue RFI's. I suppose it's possible they received something after that period, but I certainly don't know it's happened. If we don't have an answer early next week, I suppose that it will be discussed at the Annual Meeting a week from tomorrow.
Gary
I certainly don't know nearly as much about all this than most here. I do however believe that there is a logic to this coming to fruition on July 1st and said so perhaps a month or more ago. The key is that it gets done, regardless of the precise date, but a July 1st date would preclude the need for any financial filing for a few days, constituting the second quarter, if the merger closed on say June 28th. Certainly financials would need to be filed for the second quarter by both companies, which would exist as is through that quarter, but no combined report for a few days where they're merged together.
Gary
With no RFI from the regulators there is no reason to believe a 60 day delay has been inserted into the schedule.
Remember, even the 60 day figure isn't cut and dried, if the regulators ask for information and it's satisfactorily delivered in 10 days, the delay would only be 10 days. 60 days are allowed, but that doesn't mean 60 days must be used.
NWBO clearly indicated no RFI was requested during the time period the regulators are expected to do so, there should be no reason to assume we've had the 60 day delay.
Gary
I don't think so Dr. High, I believe they know they'll get overwhelming support without the approval, but negative voters will have sufficient time to change their vote once the approval's announced. I believe that by scheduling in June they'll be in complete compliance with guidelines, at least for this year. Clearly they've ignore the guidelines in the past, but I believe they're looking to move to a major exchange later this year, so at least they want to be current in the current year.
I do believe they anticipate approval before the meeting, but if wrong, they'll discuss it's status in the meeting. I'm hoping that we get solid guidance on the status of the EDEN unit as well as discussions on their plans moving forward in the later half of the year.
Many people don't believe that NWBO has the structure needed to bring DCVax-L to market worldwide. I believe that NWBO intends to do what many multi-level organizations do, incorporate the efforts of others. I believe that both Advent and CRL can fulfill the demand to make, store and distribute the vaccine worldwide as its acceptance expands. Certainly, they'll make the EDEN, but once again, I don't believe they'll be doing the bulk of the work of building, and servicing it in house. FlaskWorks size should grow, and it's very possible that they'll be making other models for other companies developing other non-competing products that are personalized. I think St. Gobain's Glass is very capable with meeting the demands for disposable cassettes.
In short, NWBO can grow with the right strategic contracts or partnerships, the organization itself will grow some, but not nearly as much as if they weren't incorporating the efforts of others. I suspect that agreements to do much of this exist, but won't become official until certain events occur, starting with UK approval.
Gary
All I am really saying is that the UK will act in the same manner as the FDA when delaying the PDUFA Date. They notify the sponsor of the delay, and the event is rescheduled.
I believe that the UK essentially follows the same sort of guidelines, and the company is bound to state what they have been told. They have a few days to do it, but a delay being considered bad news is best dumped after the bell on Friday.
Gary
I am purely basing it on the 150-day cycle. We should be there. The UK certainly can take longer, but I believe that they owe it to NWBO to tell them what is happening.
If NWBO receives such a communique from the UK, I believe shareholders are entitled to know. Without that, I think that we will be notified of approval, probably before the opening bell on Monday.
Gary
Iron Mike,
I think that they know the UK decision today. If positive, then they will do a well planned announcement by Monday. If a delay or denial, they'll dump the news with the most positive statement possible after the bell today.
I still like our chances, but delay is always a possibility.
Gary
I've been busy while here in Gualala, first looking at homes, then being infirmed with stomach flu since Sunday night, hopefully we'll be able to fly home tomorrow, the home we're in is rented then, so we've got to make a move, ready or not.
I was happy with the new research arrangement, I suspect that UCLA has a similar arraignment, and the royalty income for each will prove very valuable to them, and of course the therapies both develop will bring a great deal of money into NWBO in time. It should be noted that the key to all these arrangements isn't bringing new products to approval, it's exposing what can be done with the technology, IE Phase 2, it's up to the company to review the findings of the research and advance the new trials to Phase 3 that they believe worthy of approval. It's approved drugs that pay the research institutions the royalty money.
Gary
Great post BB. That's exactly how Great products come out of such institutions. City product Hope has developed such products under similar terms. and I think that UCLA is as well.
Gary
Sorry, my post was actually meant for the NWBO board.
However I do feel the same about ANVX, once they gain an approval from one regulator the others will fall in line, but confirmational trials are always a possibility. I do believe the regulators are open to approving products that previously would have demanded more trials, especially in diseases where no really great options exist.
Gary
I'm writing from Gualula, CA, a little over 3 hrs. north of San Francisco in the redwoods on the coast, the beauty here is fabulous, but we're slightly stuck here as my wife isn't feeling well and couldn't take the ride back to get on a flight to LA. Hopefully it will be better tomorrow.
Meanwhile, in addition to stock, we believe we've found a great house to exchange for one of our places in Tahoe. It's on 10 acres of redwood forest, abounds with trails, as well as it's own garden, green house, etc that go way beyond the house itself which was actually built by the owner with materials and skills you simply wouldn't see in construction today. I believe it will be a great vacation rental.
The house is actually closer to Pt. Arena, for those familiar with the California coast. Everywhere you look along the coast has magnificent views, and redwoods abound.
As for tomorrow, I know we're getting closer to a UK decision, I don't know that it will be tomorrow, but it could be. If not, I expect it in one of the tomorrow's before the Annual Meeting on the 29th. Hopefully we'll be back in LA tomorrow and as great as it is up here, until we own the new home I doubt if I'll be back here for awhile. The next time I'll probably prove that I can get here with an electric car at roughly 200 miles between charges, but I'll plan on staying for a few weeks.
Gary
I am the recipient of stem cells for leukemia over 9 years ago, and it was a miracle. However, I will caution against some claims where stem cells are advertised for all sorts of things. I have friends who had their knees invested and claimed that they were better, but now they have had knee replacement surgery so it wasn't a long-term benefit .
I saw one product that claimed to have stem cells, best I could tell, It had tomato seeds, I guess that they are the stem cells for tomatoes.
I'm only suggesting that people should investigate the claims before spending a lot of money. I am all for experimental products in proper trials being more available to all under right to try or compassionate use, but not for totally unsubstantiated claims.
Gary
Greetings from Gualala, it's truly G-D's country.
Everyone should relax about LP's compensation now that we know Musk is getting his $50 billion plus, so he won't be leaving Tesla too soon.
If the shorts are smart, they are getting out at these bargain basement prices. It shouldn't be that much longer before our price is a multiple of what it is today.
Gary
When I originally signed up for Fidelity's program I indicated I'd want to be able to vote my shares, I was assured that could be done. I frankly don't know how they did it, but I got a message to vote my shares now, I did so, all the shares were included. I don't know if they briefly removed them from the program, but they allowed me to vote all the shares.
I don't know that it's not possible for someone to cancel my vote, but I believe they'll be cast as I intended.
This election shouldn't be close IMHO, but clearly the company would want it to be as positive as possible. I'd be surprised if over 20% of investors vote no on any issue.
We're going up to Gualula, CA to look at real estate, etc there over the weekend. I'll try to watch what's happening, but will probably have a low profile until next Tuesday. Hopefully by the we actually have some news.
Gary
Is trading halted, there's zero volume.
Gary
In the back of my mind I seem to remember that normally Annual Meetings are supposed to be held during the first half of the year. In the past, NWBO hasn't cared. Perhaps their belief is that this year they potentially could be uplisted and they want to do everything by the book. Clearly they didn't have a meeting last year, but perhaps if they follow all the rules now they'll be forgiven past sins once they make the share price needed to make the move.
Gary
Given the way the stock is trading, if an approval comes prior to the annual meeting the short squeeze resulting should be monumental. I know that many here seem to be abandoning that goal and thinking we'll have at least a 60 day delay, it's possible, but it's still possible that they'll get the approval without any delay, and that means in the next two weeks or less.
I can't say who's right, if I'm wrong we'll certainly know by the Annual Meeting, the question may then be, is there some other big positive they intend to reveal at the meeting. In the past I believe every meeting I'm aware of did have a positive aspect, I'd be very surprised if that isn't the case this year.
Gary
I'm assuming that you are speaking of her salary and benefits over the years. Are you of the belief that she should be working for free.
Gary
Ex,
I believe that she has put a good deal of her money into NWBO, it was well before I invested, so I really don't know how much that was, but it too should be taken into consideration.
Gary
