The MW2 demo shows players killing innocent civilians. People get nervous that the game is going to miss it's release and may be banned in some regions.
The game will not be held back in the US and will not receive above an M rating. Other countries may still be an issue, Australia and Germany perhaps. Not sure what the revenue impact is here. Activision released a PR stating that the content can be turned off if it is found offensive but the street gets spooked.
Of note I played the game this weekend and it is EVERYTHING it's been hyped to be. Dont worry about the reviews on this, you'll be seeing 9/5s and 10s.
Analyst states DJ Hero might not reach half of its sales expectations. I wasnt to psyched about this one anyway as the whole genre seems very much bled dry. They have stepped up the advertising over the past week including a bunch of spots during the world series so maybe it will get some traction. Too many other titles in the genre releasing at the same time as well, band hero, lego rock band makes the genre feel more tired. Stock sells off.
Now the news about netease and WoW kinda took me by surprise. Of the 3 negative news items I think this one is the worst in the long term because it's hard to quantify just what impact it is going to have. In the short term, until diablo and starcraft come out, Wow is THE revenue generator on the PC side, if they get shut out of such a huge market I could see this one being numbers impacting.
Overall I think MW2 is going to break the record for first week entertainment sales and will sell well throughout the holidays followed by a DLC map pack in the spring. SC2 launches early spring and the followup to WoW is announced sometime right before E3. I am kinda disappointed because we're not likely to see 14$ till next spring but oh well, the company is #1 or #2 in an ever expanding market.
