"I owe my soul to the company store" for everybody!!!
No discriminations...
H.
Wow!
Never thought about it...
We now Airedale is GOOD.
But to warrant personalized attention?...
Mmmnnnn...
Strange times we are living.
H.
Ejem...
that's actually Calderon de la Barca.
FWIW.
H.
Chico,
sorry to jump in...
Stops and overnight futures don't quite mix.
Trading is too thin and many weird things happen.
"They" quite often move a price several dozen ticks just to pick your stops and return immediately to the original price.
(The opposite is also true: you can take advantage of it by placing a target far from the price and finding in the morning that they walked the price to execute it and then back to the original level)
H.

Knowing the names of the current cycles is simply not useful information
<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Hi,
I seldom post but I like Airedale's system and I've being trying to duplicate his work on my own.
I can tell you: "Knowing the names of the current cycles" (a.k.a. Phasing) is the part that I find most difficult and closer to "art"
So I, for one, would disagree with your statement.
pmiles identification of the cycle phase (whether right or wrong) it's OK by me.
Respectfully,
H.
IB Roudtrips:
ER2, ES, NQ --> $4.80
YM --> $4.26

If you are new to futures, start with ONE contract, no matter how big your account.
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Amen. Amen. AMEN.
And you are a novice until you experienced a couple of significant drawdowns.
Q: - What is a significant drawdown?
A: - You'll know. (Hint: pain will be unsufferable)
On the sunny side of things NERS seems to have very mild drawdowns but don't ever become complacent playing futures, that's where you'll lose the big bucks.
Advice from somebody who "paid" dearly for the education. <g>

too many shorts, eod pops e-mini 7pts.....who else would need to urgently buy on a friday in the middle of summer?
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
I have a different interpretation:
Just before 4 PM YM, ER2, ES, and NQ holders have to reduce their positions. (Not only because they might not like to hold overnight but also because the margin goes up)
The price movement is usually determined by who was "frustrated" during the day. (And how much)
Today trapped longs got frustrated as there wasn't hardly any bounce back to ease the pain. So Longs had to sell before the bell and that brought the price down. That pressure eased just after 4 PM and that's the bounce that you saw.
Just an idea,
H.
Now we know why the Clintons recently moved out of stocks and into cash and bonds...
H.
My guess is that the Fed will try to prop the dollar that has fallen too much too soon. (And stocks be damned...)
H.
Sorry to barge in.
Keep also in mind that the closing time is different for the cash and the futures, so any changes in the futures after the close of the cash will be discounted at the opening...
H.
Sam,
options is a losing game. Spreads are huge, commisions are high, and --as aj well said-- you have to be right not once, but three times.
If you really want to gamble futures is a much better proposition.
Take YM, ES, NQ, or ER2 for instance: spread is minimal, (one tick) commisions are low, (you get them back if the trade moves one tick in your favor) and leverage is VERY high.
You are going to lose money anyway (at least until you get some experience) but at least the deck is not stacked against you THAT much.
H.
yes,
I bought that contract back @352, (honest!) rode long pass the top, and I got out of the whole position (4 contracts) at prices between 467 and 452 just after 2pm.
Very nice trading for me yesterday.

This market has dollars to put to work for somee reason
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
RCKS,
this could be one of the reasons. (Anticipation of all that money coming in soon)
H.
Dennis Slothower, the editor of a newsletter called "On The Money" pointed out Friday that Quote:
the China Banking Regulatory Commission, in an attempt to cool its overheated stock market, had ruled that Chinese banks "can now invest as much as 50 percent of funds in overseas stock markets." Slothower calculates that this means that "up to $2.3 trillion in China monies ... can now move out of China."
To put a sum like that in perspective, consider that the total value of all publicly traded stocks in this country is around $15.1 trillion, according to Wilshire Associates. If even a modest fraction of the $2.3 trillion makes its way into U.S. stocks, we could see a "further parabolic advance in equities," as Slothower puts it.

Lee,
I placed an order to sell @13417 before going to bed. When I woke up I found the market more or less in the same place but my contract was gone.
Then I saw the spike...
My remainding 2 contracts are a bit underwater but who cares... I'm up as a whole.
At least I can give faith that the trade was real. (Sometimes when I see those weird ticks I'm inclined to think that they are kind of "fake" and not available to the "small fry")
Anyway, just another day in the market...
H.
(I'm leaving for work soon so I might not be able to reply...)
Lee,
I don't know about you, but I placed a crazy bid at 13417 when I went to sleep, (kind of a marker to myself of where to start selling if the next day goes my way) and today I woke up feeling like a genius. <g>
At least it compensated for the rest of the position...
H.
Sam 0,
Zeev never gave much information about his boxes, they are basically similar to what Sylvester explained.
He would build them looking at previous "important" highs and lows. (Resistance and support)
Zeev would sell when price approached the top of the box, and buy when price approached the bottom.
If price went out of the current box it would move on to the next box. (Either above or below) I think the idea is that if the box is well constructed the price shouldn't come back in too often and likely remain in the next box.
Zeev also allowed for "slanted" boxes, either upward or downward.
Of course this is only my understanding of the very little he talked about them during the years.
(And is all very basic Support/Resistance theory)
H.
FWIW
Amazon site has been down for more than an hour...
H.
I was talking about regular and roth IRA's.
401K's is a different story. They are out of our control. I have a small one (also with Citi-group) and I just add to the S&P500 equivalent fund. Nothing much can be done there...
H.
(Some managed IRA's have similar restrictions, but in E*Trade for instance you can go around them by switching between a dynamic fund and its inverse instead of selling and buying --This allows you to "go short" in an IRA too...)
Yeah, that sucks.
I had to stop trading stocks in my IRA a long time ago.
What I'm doing now is to trade rydex funds at the end of the day. In E*Trade I pay no commisions to do exchanges between RYVYN and RYVNX.
H.
Each broker has a different list. You should look in their sites.
As a general rule stock must trade at more than $5.
H.
VERY funny.
Thanks!
H.
'Night Stalker' was great and Darren contributed a lot with his acting to the "character" (or lack thereof) of the main protagonist.
I miss those shows...
H.
And he also was "Mike Hammer" for the older crowd...
R.I.P.
H.
Newly,
I endorse your first paragraph 100%!
In another place and time I lived under a facist regime. At that time I was as conservative as they come and I thought that liberals were communists.
Big mistake.
Upon coming to this country (some 20 years ago) I learned to appreciate a different type of "everyday living". (With all its defects at that time)
Now I'm politically agnostic --> there might be good goverment but it's neither of the alternatives offered...
I'm sad to say that I see in the Bush II administration a marked tendency towards facism. (If we are not there already...)
The American people at large are going to realize what facism means for them only when it's too late.
Pity.
(But of course I'm preaching to the choir...)
All the best,
H.
PS: Orwell's 1984 should be required reading everywhere. (It's a manual on controling the masses, so current today half a century later)
Well said, Newly.
H.
The movie is good. (Very good, actually)
The book is two levels above it.
(A forgotten classic...)
H.
Michael is right.
They renamed MyIE as Maxthon. (It's the same browser)
http://www.maxthon.com/index.htm
H.
He'll survive. <g>
He won't hold positions for long (especially if they go against him)
But I hope his computer behaves and doesn't enter a "ghost" order to go long...
H.
Edit: YM -205 points now
YM (dow futures) is down -190 points and the largest rally today was ONLY 30 points.
I've never seen this before. Relentless selling, and NO OPPORTUNITY whatsoever to unload longs.
Longs are trapped here.
Doesn't look good for Monday.
H.
OT OT OT
I'm at work.
I just went to Amazon, and listened to the 30 seconds fragment. (Not enough to get orgiastic about it <g>)
But I liked what I heard, and when I get home I'll try and "get" a couple of his albums. (And Chet Baker's too)
Thanks again.
H.
Hiker,
Thanks for the "head's up"!
Not only stock tips in this thread,. He, he...
H.
Buy the cheapest one.
And if you like the concept then you can buy a good one.
Good luck.
H.
Nice!
Thanks.
H.
We are in the same camp.
I just wanted to point out that planned obsolescense was no longer the right model for computers and chips.
Desktop computers have become commodities, and companies like Dell, Sony, etc. are trying hard to differenciate their offerings through advertising. (Cornflakes are cornflakes are conrflakes...)
Building your own box is the way to go, and replace hard drives when they become full. <g>
There's no longer such a thing as top-of-the-line components. They are all made in the same place. Lowest price is the way to go everywhere. (And if they come out bad just dump it and buy a new one)
Sony has this internal policy of making things propietary as much as they can. Sometimes they can get away with it. Sometimes they cannot. Very annoying for the end user.
Spending $1700 for a desktop is madness. The extra money goes to advertising, and fancy lights; not to extra quality.
Laptops are becoming commodities. I bought a new Compaq laptop for $600 5 month ago, and it's working great.
I read that Walmart is going to offer HP/compaq laptops for $400 this coming Xmas. Definitely the way to go. (And throw them away when they break down)
Very difficult for computer/chip companies to make money in this environment.
H.
PS: Wow! What a disjointed post. It reads like "idle thoughts of an idle mind" <g>
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Like car manufacturers, computers are built for obsolescence in about 3 years
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
This is not exactly true. (And part of the problem chip manufacturers are facing at this moment)
Planned obsolescense was the game for computer chips up to the last 2 or 3 years. Then something changed: The newer chips are NOT considerably faster than the ones they replace, they don't even has anything "better" going for them. They have kind of hit a wall. (Of course industry pundits will deny this)
The net result is that computers made 3 years ago are as able as newer computers to handle the tasks at hand. Big companies are slowly realizing this and they are in no hurry of replacing their computers.
This is the main (unspoken) reason that INTC, DELL, etc. are having problems. (And will in the foreseeable future)
The only segment pulling the sector is shoot-em-up games that requiere expensive video cards, and faster processors as they are trying to reach movie-quality in the process. (regretfully the playability of those games reflects the movies they are trying to emulate: uninspiring and formulaic)
Only reason to replace a computer is if the price is low enough. (Or if they are cuter)
H.
... and Liv Ullmann, one of my favorite actresses of all time!
H.
Well yeah, I was referring to the precision in the use of the language anyway.
I was just now watching the news, and somebody asked an "expert" about his conclusions about these bombings, and he said (very seriously) "One thing we can infer is that these are not the same people of the bombings two weeks ago..."
And I thought: Duh! If those were **suicide** bombers it's obvious they are not alive to do it again.
H.

"Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is now at its highest level in 400,000 years and it continues to rise..."
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
So 400,001 years ago was higher than today? And we survived?
Then there's nothing to worry about... <g>
H.
(It never fails to amaze me how they come up with these numbers. Sheez!)
