I don't need to tell IJO anything about credibility. We had a few beers together and he is as credible as they come.
As far as the PR company, I have no clue why WSGI hired her. My involvement with the company stopped long before I started posting. However, any attempts to compare GE to JL are absurd. I personally dealt with both men on several issues and other than both being intelligent, they are about as opposite as you can get.
Edit: You really should look at the LTAS website!
Acumen, I agree that you are consistent, just loosing credibility. Those are two different things.
I have no problem with academic discourse and I agree that you have plenty of good points. However, you loose credibility (and start sounding like Ms. Cole Thornton) when you misstate clear facts. You do know that the company is no longer based in south Florida, right? I have no problem putting 1Q of R&D budget (which i believe most of the budget went to George V.) towards acquiring the capability to move manufacturing capability and engineering in-house and acquiring IP that has been developed through years of R&D (mast systems, tethered quad, trailer, etc.).
I have stated in the past that I have read just about every post on this board since mid 2010. IJO was a breath of fresh air and inspired me to chime in as well. I'm not sure what that has to do with anything.
Micro batteries with 3d printer. Breakthrough for argus performance?

The photo was taken December 2012 so none of the 1stQ 2013 R&D budget went to testing the product in this particular photo. Again, please do some background research before commenting. You are only hurting your credibility.
Indy, you mean this picture?
I do not understand how something can no longer be public once the cat is out of the bag.

I always liked this video. At 2:04 in he discusses the high speed sensor similar to a high speed gimbal for 360 imaging.
Bio yada yada that IJO mentioned...
http://m.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/jun/6/armys-new-robotic-bird-drone-so-realistic-it-gets-/
I believe that WW made his post because we already own a similar product, the TDAP
"LTAS has taken a unique approach to quad rotor crafts based on our tethered aerostat solutions, and has developed the TDAP which incorporates a tether into the quad rotor-craft for safe and long endurance operations."
http://www.ltascorp.com/products/ltas-drone-unmanned-aerial-platform
It came with the acquisition of LTAS
I do not know if it can match the specs DHS wants. You would think our COB might give someone a call and say, I did not know you were looking for one of these. Here, check this out.
"Germany's railway operator plans to deploy mini drones to catch vandals who deface its trains with graffiti, with the aerial vehicles shooting thermal images of its train depots at night."

bib opportunity?
WOW! Bad news for the company. Hopefully, it was operator error and not product flaw.
Thanks for clarifying. I did not mean to put words in your mouth. Lighter Than Air seemed to confirm.
Pagan, thanks for keeping me honest. I don't always "show my work" like my old math teachers demanded. Others have answered for me but I also have some to add.
I recently met the father of UAS pilot that flew the big AWACS style bird. That plane is used to coordinate the airspace for drone use in the military theater to avoid collisions, coordinate data collection, etc. Better swarming tech means better autonomy. Also the Argus is a perfect LTA replacement for this UAS coordination craft.
Someone also pointed out for me there is an army request for LMAMS. Attach a few to an Argus with the ability to launch from the Argus, use multiple sensors in the swarm to better verify targets, etc. One can go in for the kill with the others returning to the Argus if no target is acquired.
Particularly with Moore's law, I get excited about the law of unintended consequences. I think the use of swarm tech will be a huge jump/paradigm shift in UAS use.
Ha...Mrs. Thornton,
Your use of unnecessary quotes does not change the fact that your statements continue to be incorrect. There is not one document proving WSGI, or Sanswire, or any other previous version of the company was a scam. As I have already explained to you, there was no finding of any such facts by a judge or jury. You continue to spout inaccuracies based on allegations made against the company. Yes, certain individuals were bad actors, they admitted to their individual crimes and served(serving) their time. But was WSGI shut down? Sent into bankruptcy? Or did WSGI settle its lawsuit with the SEC without a finding of fact of wrong doing? Ill answer these for you in order: no, no and yes.
It this point I would love for you to prove me wrong. It has no bearing on the company today or the future. You are stuck in the past. So please prove me wrong and produce a document that "proves" WSGI is or was a scam.
As IJO has told you before, the company knows who you are. You are not hard to track down.
And as a follow up to the "swarm" technology discussion:
"A startup called DreamHammer last week announced that it was rolling out a beta version of software that would allow for the coordinated control of multiple drones. Those drones wouldn’t have to all be in the air, either—some could be unmanned aerial vehicles, some could be wheeled rovers, some could be watercraft, or submarines. In theory, a single person wielding an iPad could carry out a personal robo-D-Day."
http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2013-05-21/control-your-own-drone-army
All of the state and now federal legislation focus on fourth amendment rights. What about the second amendment?
"some legal scholars think that Second Amendment rights might extend to robotic arms, including drones outfitted with weapons."
"It's a question that Peter W. Singer, director of Brookings' 21st Century Defense Initiative, wrote in 2010 was an "all too real question" surrounding the age of drones.
"Does the Second Amendment cover my right to bear (robotic) arms? It sounds like a joke, but where does the line stop, and why?" Singer wrote."
"The Second Amendment question was recently explored in-depth by Dan Terzian, a U.S. District Court clerk in Guam, who published "The Right to Bear (Robotic) Arms" in the Penn State Law Review earlier this year.
According to Terzian, the answer to that question comes down to the interpretation of the Supreme Court in a couple cases, most importantly District of Columbia v. Heller, the 2008 decision that overturned Washington's handgun ban.
That decision held that the Second Amendment "protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in the militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home," but limits the amendment's protections to weapons that are "in common use at the time."
By that definition, robotic weapons would almost certainly not be considered in "common use," much like rocket launchers, tanks and cannons. But Terzian says that as the technology improves, armed drones could one day become popular enough to become commonplace.""
"Though the FAA expressly forbids people from arming their private planes, it doesn't forbid the shooting of guns out of the windows of planes or helicopters. While it is illegal in most states, in some places, it's specifically permitted. In 2011, Texas passed a law that allows licensed hunters to shoot feral hogs from helicopters."
http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2013/05/21/the-next-gun-debate-armed-drones-could-be-protected-by-the-second-amendment
although earlier in the article it did say:
"In February, Jim Williams, the man in charge of regulating drones for the FAA, was unequivocal about the question.
"We currently have rules in the books that deal with releasing anything from an aircraft, period," he said at an industry meeting. "Those rules are in place and that would prohibit weapons from being installed on a civil aircraft.""

I wonder what he was "researching"
"The Navy will make its first attempt to launch an unmanned aircraft the size of a fighter jet from an aircraft carrier on Tuesday, marking a significant step toward the possibility of expanded drone use in future conflicts."
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_NAVY_UNMANNED_AIRCRAFT?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2013-05-14-03-48-15
International water is not that far out. How far can a BIB see strapped to a boat in a carrier group? No NAS to deal with. How about an Argus hovering above with one in reserve. When one comes down the other goes up providing 24/7 ISR to the tactical units.
"The US Navy's quieter way to spy, the Ion Tiger, just bested its own 2009 flight record with a key assist from liquid hydrogen. The unmanned aerial vehicle had previously relied on 5000-psi compressed hydrogen for fuel, but for its latest flight test the Naval Research team swapped that out for a new cryogenic tank and delivery system that relies on the liquid stuff; a choice made for the element's increased density. With that one significant change in place, the craft was able to outperform its last endurance run of 26 hours and two minutes by almost double, lasting 48 hours and one minute in a flight made mid-April."
http://www.engadget.com/2013/05/10/us-navy-ion-tiger-drone-record-flight/
I was not trying to put words in your mouth. That is why I was requesting clarification. I agree that printing shares is not good in general for the company.
Trunk, I try to respect everyone's opinion on this site (except maybe Cole). I am slightly confused by your post and I was wondering if you could clarify.
"this thing kinda reminds me of Huff days before anyone knew illegal activity." Are you refering specifically to the request to increase AS? Huff is/was jailed due to the revenue scheme and a pump and dump. Is there any actual, current criminal activity of which you suspect? I personally know several members of the company and IMO they would quit before risking runining thier business repuation (or even law license) with another scam from WSGI.
Can you please clarify? TIA

Despite the silly speach, he has a point about selling off the Helium reserves. It will have an impact on our industry.

Florida drone bill becomes law. effective July 1, 2013.
"Starting in 2010, DARPA has been working on a variety of programs aimed at developing new navigation and positioning technology -- at first with the goal of extending their reach to places where satellites don't work, such as underwater.
But now, amid fears of over-reliance on -- and possible vulnerabilities with -- global positioning satellites, experts are looking to create not just a companion, but an alternative to GPS.
To that end, researchers at DARPA and the University of Michigan have created a new system that works without satellites to determine position, time and direction, all contained within a eight-cubic-millimeter chip."
"The tiny chip holds three gyroscopes, three accelerometers and an atomic clock, which, together, work as an autonomous navigation system"

IJO, fyi, I just found out bad personal news before our meet. I was not in the best of moods. My appologies.
According to IJO, the payload on the JIEDDO version of the BIB is classified. You would hope that it could detect those kinds of devices.
http://cnsnews.com/blog/joe-schoffstall/drone-industry-invokes-boston-bombings-pr-pitch
I believe this man was discussed before on this board. Can't remember the context.
Thanks for the article.
"The Heron is a Medium Endurance Long Altitude (MALE)"
"It’s large enough to present both challenges, like other air traffic, and opportunities, like enough customers to make taco drones viable."
I know I don't allways spellcheck, but this is bad editing. (edit- unless they are talking about food delivery drones in the latter)
As for the basher you have recently engaged, I gave up along time ago. I have reminded him/her that each time the "proven scam" line is used, it just restarts the statute of limitations on the continuing acts of libel. He/she has never posted a link proving anything. It does remind me, this should be another item on the agenda when we meet.
Doing research on IED detection and prevention on US soil and came across an interesting article:
"The Boston Marathon bombing marked a watershed moment that counterterrorism officials and specialists have dreaded for years: the use of multiple “improvised explosive devices,’’ or IEDs, to inflict mass casualties on US soil."
"Just two months ago, the White House established an IED task force in the Department of Justice to apply lessons for domestic defense that have been learned from years of dealing with the phenomenon on foreign battlefields.
“The threat from IED use is likely to remain high in the near future, and will continue to evolve in response to our abilities to counter them,” stated a strategy document approved by President Obama on Feb. 26. The intent of the new task force was to improve coordination “to best position the United States to discover plots to use IEDs in the United States, or against US persons abroad.” "

My thoughts are good timing but why in the DOJ? What has the task force done since its formation? Obviously, that speed will increase. Will JIEDDO's funding increase? DHS increases interest in IED detection and prevention?
They cut cell phone service after the blasts (obviously worried about triggering another device). A military grade encripted communications signal would be usefull. IMO, while we may not see infantry walking up and down the street, in the future LEOs are going to have the same smart-fighter technology and ISR provided, in part, by products like ours.
I spent too much time in the crowdsource with the Boston bombing. Based on law enforcement showing the most damaging photos (from the L&T camera) to on-scene journalists late tonight and the descriptions provided therefrom, I realized I was looking at the guys most of the day. Not sure if I should post the pics. They can be easily found.
Edit: for staying on topic, I think a mil spec BIB would have picked up the bombs. Both were placed in positions hiding them from the police bird's nest at the finish line. A BIB much higher should have spotted them early (the two guys were there at least two hours before the blasts).

The latest leak is that they were pressure cooker IEDs.

I did some research and found this article/blog discussing this IED training in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

I hate to be the first to comment on yesterday's tragedy. IJO, you mentioned DHS. Not sure if the JIEDDO version of the BIB could have spotted the devices. From what I understand they were crude gun powder based devices wraped in ball bearings. Can you comment?
Not that I agree with him:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2308425/The-rise-robot-wars-Google-chief-warns-armed-drones-soon-hands-terrorists-miniature-models-used-spy-neighbors.html
It sounds like another form of global arms control.
I take back my previous statement re: Helikite. I am not sure if it fits in the exact same loophole as BIB/Argus or not.
Thanks. I had a shoot yesterday. One model had amazing eyes. Thats why I was up so late, editing. The quote comes from a fortune cookie about 15-20 years back. I carried it with me for about 5 years before I lost it. IMO, words to live by.
In the past I have discussed our new LTAS products related to the commercial market. They seem to have plug and play solutions for people like me. Not to far back a guy up north got in trouble for starting his own arial photography business (I seem to have lost the link). The problem was that he was using a drone for comercial applications. Not yet allowed by the FAA. The masts and aerostats with their harnesses are a cheap way to get the job done.
BTW, did anyone notice my new Argus eye? I would loan the immage to WSGI.
I had a minute to read up on the Helikite and thus STMPAS.
IMO, the pro of increased lift with aerodymanic forces is a con in that it makes this prodcut a "drone" in the eyes of all of the proposed restricted legislation.
BIB is still within the loophole for domestic use.
I was busy all day. Florida senate passes its version of the drone spy bill.
