For knocking them out of the playoffs 3 times.. Plus, it is Boston, they should be booed.
No, I don't feel that there is a sense of entitlement to win every year. I say most of the yankee fans on this board are pretty level headed. Just because someone agrees with you 100% does mean your 100% right. I have said it before and I will say it again. Best world series I ever saw was when Yankees lost to the D-Backs. Was I disappointed? Sure I was. But thats the way it goes. Was great baseball. No 2 ways about it.
He did a lot of things that many people never realized. He didn't broadcast it. I remember one got out that there was little boy crying in a hotel and George saw him and asked him what was wrong. The kid said he and his dad traveled so far to go to the world series and the tickets were sold out. So George put them in the owners box. He paid a lot of kids to go to collage. Started a fund for the Kids of Soldiers that if the soldger is killed so they could go to collage and everything is paid for. There was tons of things and we will never know them all. But he has spent million on kids programs one way or another and did a lot of good with his money to help people.
Absolutly I do. I also think he should be reinstated. The punishment he recieved is worse than any jail time.
My feeling on it is we all know he was really stupid and did wrong. I don't believe he influenced games. But your right, there are juiced players in the All-Star Game. I will never forget that interview when a very stupid Jim Grey decided he was going to be a fact finding reporter after Pete Rose got such a huge ovation.
I think so. I remember this being discussed years ago and I was definitly in the minority. But I think he should be.
lol em....
Timing of Steinbrenner's death could exempt heirs from estate tax
By Peter Whoriskey

George Steinbrenner never had to calculate when to hit a major league fastball, but in death, his timing was impeccable.
By dying this year, the Yankees' billionaire owner found the sweet spot in the U.S. tax code, exiting this earthly world during a year in which congressional dallying has allowed the estate tax to lapse, potentially saving his heirs hundreds of millions of dollars.
Had he died last year and tried to pass his fortune onto his children or grandchildren, they would have faced a 45 percent tax. Had he lived until next year, the rate would have been 55 percent. But Steinbrenner's death this year, like that of three other known billionaires who have died in 2010, gives his heirs a break.
Forbes estimated Steinbrenner's personal wealth last year at $1.15 billion.
The year-long hiatus of the estate tax, which normally falls on the very rich, could cost the U.S. Treasury an estimated $14.8 billion or more in 2010.
It has also complicated the financial plans of billionaires and their families, leading to the macabre possibility of heirs hoping that their benefactor will die this year, rather than next.
"Because of Mr. Steinbrenner's public name and stature, his death may draw the attention of Congress -- they simply have to decide what do," said Henry Christensen, the president of the International Academy of Trust and Estate Counsel and the author of the treatise International Estate Planning. "We've had this year of chaos in the estate planning world."
Christensen noted that Steinbrenner probably would have planned to reduce his exposure to the estate tax by establishing trusts and essentially bequeathing his fortune early. Moreover, the amounts passed on to his wife or to charity would be exempt from the tax. But the amount subject to the tax -- were it in place -- could be "substantial."
The estate tax continues to be debated by Congress. Three senators -- Bernard Sanders (I-Vt.), Tom Harkin(D-Iowa) and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) -- proposed a bill last month that would put in place an escalating tax on estates valued at more than $3.5 million, rising to 55 percent, with an extra 10 percent levied on the estates of billionaires. Given the size of the national debt, they argued, the wealthy must pay their "fair share
"At a time when we have a growing gap between the very rich and everyone else, we have a situation now where the very wealthiest people in this country are seeing, when someone in their family dies, their estate tax is zero," Sanders said in a floor statement Tuesday.
I am not fading at all. I just don't see any point thet it should just keep going. No matter what you feel the way you do and I feel the way I do. Your probably one of the 1st people I expected to see plenty of today singing how happy you are that George Steinbrenner is dead and getting your pot shots in about him. I would have been shocked if you weren't on here for such a joyous day for you. There are alot of times I agree with things you say and some I don't. This is one I don't.
I figured he would do something. Out of anyone still with the team I think he is probably the closest to him.
Oh I never said the Yankees never made mistakes. Everyone does. It is how you deal with them. You can whine and blame the rest of the world for your mistakes or you can take ownership of them and try to do better. Sad what has happened in this country. So many of these companies that make millions and millions that had to be bailed out because people take so much out of the company and put so little back into it. One of my biggest memories of a whining owner was Mr Hicks himself coming off his 7 million dollor Yaught to do a interview to tell how broke he is. It made me feel so sorry for him. These owners who did great or had a great idea and made a ton of money in something else thinking they can run a baseball team. George Steinbrenner was a built in excuse. Maybe they failed because they had no clue what what they were doing and surrounded themselves by people who didn't know the game like they thought or because they were good at just taking but not good at giving back to the business.
No, they can't unless they build their team into a franchise. At one time George couldn't do that either. I don't feel sorry for these millionaire owners. They don't spend every cent they have when they buy a team. They are millionaires. I agree some make the most money from the sale of the team. But maybe they should put more money into the team to help build it instead of a nice new Jet or shiney new Yaught for 7 to 14 million. You mentioned earlier yes Red Sox made are getting money back from their investment in Dice-K. You have to spend money to make money.
It is all speculation but the way it looks is he was going to replace Javy who was going to be traded. Your right, you can't buy insurance that a player is going to suck but you do have the option of not having that player. You make a bad decision you lose. You make a good decision you win. You surround yourself with good baseball people, scouting etc.
About as serious as the question was.
Why do you think they collectivly showed they have 2 sets of books when it was time for the congressional hearing. The things they were willing to show and the things they were unwilling to show. As part of law they are able to make certain deductions and show a loss on when they are making money on it. I have been for over a year trying to get my own business going..Been keeping my head slightly above water so far. There are things that according to the goverment I can claim as a deduction and show a loss on when I am actually making money. You really believe people spend a couple hundred million so they can lose money like so many of them claim? C'mon your smarter than that.
Prove the other owner only has 10k after spending millions to get that racing team.
Well it came from CC Sabathia who is good friends with Lee. So I tend to give it more credibility than if you know it or not.
Very good, now your getting it. You spend money to make money. You just proved my point for me. Thank you!!!!
Well, thats right to. But imagine that, they put the money into the team. When you own a team you put the money into the team, you know, so you can win. If you want to sell a product that doesn't ever change or cost you the same to make you by a company that sells pop-rocks.
Cliff Lee will play for the Yankees. Everyone knows he also wants to play for the Yankees. He knows there was a owner who wants to win and Cliff Lee wants to win. He also knows he will get the money he is looking for. I don't feel sad that these rich owners that don't care about really winning as much as they want to make themselves much richer don't win. Thats their own problem. You really actually believer they own a baseball team and really lose all this money they claim? Sorry, I don't buy it.
Because there were a bunch of teams that wanted him. Including the Yankees. Like Ichiro, they bid and were outbid by Seattle.
Right, ok, as long as the posting fee didn't count against the cap it was ok. So it is do as I say and not as I do in other words. Money spent is money spent to get a player. They were still out a ton of cash.
I think Joe Torre was much to blame for the way the team was run.He got way to much credit for the World Series teams. How many did he win since Don Zimmer left? I think Cashman is better than he gets credit for. But funny how you don't complain about your team spending 100 million on 1 player. No way Dice-K was worth 100 million. You really think that is running the team well? It is ok then but if the Yankees did that they would be no good.
A balanced league? How many different world series winners have we had the past 10 years? How much more of a balanced league do you want? So many of these teams that cry Poverty and get fools to believe them. There was a time Yankees were really bad in the 80's and were averaging something like 28k a game for fans. It is proven you will build the fan base if you put money into the team and bring fans in. They get revenue sharing and Luxery tax money for free so they don't have to put any real money into the team. Then they cry poverty and need more money. Your right, Hicks screwed up the Rangers but there are owners that screw up their own teams. It was just easier for them to blame the yankees because people were foolish enough to believe it.
I had a feeling out of anyone you would be here to spread cheer. Unfortunitly it was stpid owners like the fool in Texas. Instead of putting a ton of money in their pockets they should put it in the team. But also do it in a smart way. Thats what screwed up baseball.
I can understand them making their trade but your right. Sometimes having a Vet in there teaching these young guys is worth their weight in gold. I have to say I felt sorry for them. Pitch their hearts out. Leave it all on the field. To watch the pen come in and pitch softball practice to the Yankees. That has to be a hard pill to swallow.
Yea, your right. I was thinking that some today. Remember there was so much talk about Jeter having a crack at the Hits record. To have a legit shot he would have to play at this level another 7 or 8 years? I just don't see that happening. He really seems to be having a tough time. I think we are starting to see the aged Jeter and 150 something games plus playoffs for so many years and World Series seem to be starting to take their toll.
Well I hope they don't feel the need to bring someone in to replace him through a trade. I think our young guys are doing well enough. Brett Gardner has been better than I thought he would. I would have been happy at .280-.285 But he is batting .309 with a .396 OBP and has 56 runs. His numbers fair really well against Damons. Posada has me worried though. He is taking a beating behind the plate and he just does not look himself this year.
Their starting pitching 3 of the 4 games really did pretty decent. Their Pen is really disappointing. I have only seen them a few times this year but thats got to be really hard for the starters to know they can pitch a great game and their pen is probably going to losw it.
Wow, been so long since we had him I forgot he was playing with us. We gave Damon up because Nick would be healthier since he would be DH 95% of the time. Isn't that the way it was supposed to be?lol
Well, thats partly true. They asked Jaba flat out because they wanted to keep him in the Pen. He said he wanted to be a starter. Phil Hughes went from Starter to pen to Starter. I think it is more on Jaba than it is the Yankees. He did show some promise in the Starters roll but I think he is better served in the Pen.
Give him time. That is a tough field to hit homers in. He isn't playing in Boston anymore where it was easier hitting with the green Monster. Also he was a good player before he got to Boston so he will be fine. 1st year and big Contract. As for Atlanta, I told you worry about them if they are doing well when the trading deadline comes. They will be shoppers. Also keep a Eye on the Phillies. They are going to make a move.
There can not be alot of pitchers who can be Mo. Jaba needs to just pull his head out of his tail and just Pitch. You hit it right on the head. Just like watching Farnsworth. He nibbles, nibbles, nibbles then fastball right down the middle of the plate. Javy pitched a hell of a game and kept them off balance all night long. If I have 1 complaint about Girardi it is he sticks with the Pen pitcher way to long. Not just Jaba. He does it with a few of them and when you see they just don't have it that night, instead of pulling them he leaves them in. Leaving Javy in last night was the right thing to do. Even if Javy didn't get out of that bases loaded jam he pitched well enough that night he deserved the chance to get out of it.
Excellent deal for Texas. Now the big question is will he sign a long term deal with Texas with all their money problems this looks like it is a rent a player type deal. They are up 5.5 games now without him. Awsome deal for Texas.....
I am not sure why it came up like that but it still works anyway. lol

Sometimes you have to wonder if there is something there to the AJ nd Posada thing. I watched the Tino Martinez Yankeeography for the 5th or 6th time that was on and how humble he was. He didn't let his ego get in the way and was humble to the point he was worried he would embarass himself at the homerun derby. Neither AJ or Posada is humble and I can picture both feeling they are right.
I am worried AJ is hurt. He is not following through with his pitches like normal. He doesn't like to say when he is hurt. He looks really bad though. His fastball has no movement on it. 93 94 right down the middle.
Well thats the same as winning by 50 runs or winning by 1 run. It shows in the stats as a grand slam and Yankees win. I will take it.
I would say he is but I would have also said he was a month ago and he fell right back into a slump.
