I'd hate to be Chapman's girlfriend tonight.....
Grady Little got shit-canned for much less than what Maddon has done in this series. Between the mishandling of the starters, the burn-out of Chapman and the studpid call for Baez to bunt with 2 strikes, the Cubs' biggest obstacle in this game is their manager.
Nyquin or Davis in center= ouch. making Heyward and his whiffle bat bat look all the better. Catching a ball and throwing it come first.
Kyle Hendricks 2016 stats:
ERA at Wrigley: 1.31
ERA away: 2.95
BB at Wrigley: 14
BB away: 30
Innings pitched home and away are almost identical. I know it's game 7 and the leash will be short, but who wants to bring Lester into a tight game in the 6th or 7th with his inability to hold runners? Lackey may well be the key piece today.
IMO, pitching Chapman when up 5 runs yesterday was a huge mistake that'll cost Maddon big-time. The whole Cubs pen knows that their manager thinks they suck, and that they can't be trusted to hold a 5 run lead. Tough to generate any confidence with that message sent.
Yup, the playoffs have changed the whole make-up of baseball. Consider: in the old days, 2 teams qualified for the World Series. They were the teams with the best records in their leagues over 162 games. Performance over the long season was all that mattered. It was a game of attrition, determination and survival.
Throw in divisions and wild cards and the value of performance over the 162 game season has become a footnote. You don't even get home filed advantage for winning the most games in the regular season. The short series...well, we've seen with Bochy and Bumgarner how little you really need to win it all.
Tonight, Bryant made Lackey's start look much worse than it actually was. Down 3-1 in games though, I still think the Cubs will take this to a 7th game. Lester vs Bauer with only 4 fingers should fall their way, and Arietta looked fantastic in his last start.
Hendricks vs Kluber in game 7 could be a rewrite of the '91 series...Jack Morris and the amazing 10 inning 1-0 game that fell to the Twins due to Knoblach's fake out of Lonnie Smith....
I still hope the Tribe win it; Francona has been as incredible as Miller or Kluber. And they're used to hearing "wait til next year" in Chicago! But I definitely want it to go back to Cleveland for the finish.
Bought a starter of HTBX today on this news: http://ih.advfn.com/p.php?pid=nmona&article=72740066&symbol=HTBX
They have more news in the pipeline which should be released very soon. In the CEO's words: "We are seeing great results and we look forward to presenting these results over the course of the next few weeks."
On watch:
EGLT, now in the mid 6's, awaiting FDA update on their PDUFA
VCEL: following the bio trend down but PDUFA on 3 Jan
I'm not a big fan of either team, but win or lose, the Cubs will be right back here next year. The Tribe on the other hand...too much had to go right for them to make the series this year, injuries to the starters notwithstanding. With these small market teams, they have to win when they're in the groove (KC) or wait another 10-15 years for the next shot (Cincy,Pirates).
A 7 game series would be great though. I hate the off season!
Brewers declared WS champs in perpetuity!
Yup. He sure went from unhittable to, well, Joe Blanton really quick.
I don't think I can watch Baez throw one more pitch for the Dodgers and I'm not even an LA fan. It seems like he's been the man on the mound for every 7th or 8th inning playoff meltdown this team has had, first under Mattingly and now it's Robert's turn.
Great series though. Hard to see the Cubs losing 3 out of 4 in Wrigley, but the Dodgers have some arms...and not nearly as much pressure.
Kershaw in game 6 is a decent bet to me, but I don't see Hill performing at his game 3 level again. Especially in Chicago.
Arrieta on the other hand is in the underachiever basket this post season. Not that he's up for another start in this series, but he could be called upon in a game 7 if needed.
Hill was awesome. Came up money at exactly the right time for LA. It's only 2-1, and hopefully there's a game 6 and a game 7 in this series, but Chicago is reminding me more and more of the 2001 Mariners; amazing team over the 162 game schedule but not a great match up in the playoffs.
I just signed up last week....could impact the bottom line!!
Yup. Redemption is as easy as your last pitching line. And what a game. Of the 4 remaining teams, only the Cubs will be considered huge disappointments if they miss the series. That said, the Dodgers pitching staff looks mighty shaky after Kershaw.
Tied up 1-1 going into Dodgers stadium, I like the Cubs' chances a lot with Arietta on the hill.
Game 5 Nats-Dodgers has to be one of the best games I've seen in a long, long time. The tension level from the Werth gun-down in the bottom of the 6th onward til the end of the game...it just never let up. Sure, some games go extra innings, but this one was on a knife's edge every at bat. Lots of dudes on both teams (but mainly the Nats) are going to be re-living what coulda/woulda/shoulda for a long time this off-season. Including Dusty.
And Murphy vs Kershaw in the bottom of the ninth was solid gold.
Can't say I'm a fan of either of these teams, but what a game! I hope the Dodgers have something left in the tank when they take the field in Chicago.
Scary. Harkens back to the days of feudalism.
Voter fraud in America? This is a dog bites man story if ever I saw one.
Here's my view: this presidential race is the worst in my lifetime, far and away. Both candidates have major, major flaws and their repugnance is reflected in the unhappiness of the American voter. HRC will win the election not on her own political and personal appeal to America, but because Trump is politically and personally toxic.
Don't you find it ironic that Trump (rightfully) slams Clinton as a beholden insider when Trump himself is the ultimate insider in the corrupt American capitalist system: a person born with a platinum spoon who never has had to do a days work in his life, who took full advantage of all the laws the rich elite enacted to protect their own wealth and who has absolutely no idea what life on Main Street is like for most of us? I'm gobsmacked that so many white American men think that Trump is one of theirs.
IMO, looking deeper, both candidates are products of a rotten economic/political system which has neither the will nor the legal wherewithal to fix itself: it's like asking a drunk to mind the bar. I was disappointed that HRC was ushered into the nomination for the democrats and equally disappointed that out of the massive field of republicans, Trump was the best they could muster.
Regardless of the outcome of this election, I fear for the future of the country. We've lost our way and our say. Getting it back will take more than the ballot box.
The middle of the road is all of the usable surface. The extremes, right and left, are in the gutters. Dwight David Eisenhower
I don't think he can make it though.
Too much opposition.
Dems
Establishment Republicans
Illegal Aliens
Dead people
Better add "women" to that list too.
Yup. Pitching and defense are supreme in the playoffs and Texas had neither. The cracks in the rotation could be seen as early as late August, when Hamels started getting rocked consistently and only the most diehard ostrich Rangers fans refused to acknowledge there might be a dead arm problem. And let's face it: while there is precedent for a mediocre batter stepping up huge in the post season, it's incredibly rare that a mediocre pitcher comes up huge.
This Rangers team reminds me of the 2014 Angels. Best record in the league, fodder in the playoffs. Gonna be a long plane ride back to Texas.
I hear you brother. Your boys ran into those MLB juggernauts known as the Braves and Phillies in September and we all know what happens there....
As for the injuries, it sucks for sure. In an ideal world, all teams would have a fully healthy roster and the best team would win in the end. This is a fantasy however. The teams that come out on top are those which make do when the hard times hit, ie, the Rangers, the Dodgers, the Nats.
Hard times in Met-land this season to be sure, but as a long suffering Brewers fan, all I can say is cry me a river. Your front office sucks, the Met's late season deals suck and in spite of all the injuries, you still have a legitimate shot at becoming cannon fodder for the Cubs. It could always be worse.
Montero's up....5 earned in 3.1 innings....time to put the call in to Seaver's agent...
Congrats to all Rangers fans on another fantastic season. The front office really made the right moves again to get them over the hump. They look poised for a deep playoff run. Should be a great AL championship series with the Red Sox.
IRT has been a strong choice for me this year as well. I'm also into VER, which is approaching investment grade under new CEO Glenn Rufrano.
Slowly the American Realty Capital accounting crooks are being rounded up, helping VER move on. Yield's about 5.5% and it trades better than 5 million shares a day.
On the up side, looks like the Metties won't lose any ground to the Cards or Giants. The NL wild card looks more and more like a competition to see who can lose the least during the stretch.
So much for the Mets easy schedule to close the season! What a finish.
Your centerfielder lets one drop in...your reliever walks in a huge one...I guess next time the Braves runner could trip on the way to the plate and the Braves batter could swing away at some garbage....
You lose games like that in September, you deserve to go home.
The Braves? Tick anyone off? IMO, if you can't beat a team of the Braves's quality in your home park in the 3rd week of September with a playoff berth on the line, you don't deserve to play in October.
Yup, Sox peaking at just the right time...looking to close out that division and get their starters a rest before the playoffs. Their offense is second to none; it's hard to see them losing to anyone in the AL IMO.
This will be my last post here on the topic as I think value1008 was right when he suggested that we stick to stock talk.
So we were discussing the media and I mentioned a lack of in depth investigative journalism being responsible for the uninformed opinions of many people...and you post a YouTube link that purports that Hillary Clinton has a body double who has appeared in her place since her 9-11 collapse.... Wow.
I can honestly answer your question, "Do you feel safer?"
Please tell me that you don't own a gun...that alone would make me feel a lot safer!
You're just proving my point here about the lack of investigative depth in our news analysis: asking me if I feel safer after a bombing is about as insightful as asking me if I feel wetter when it's raining.
Sadly it has become the case today that restating the obvious to bolster one's belief is the status quo of news and reporting in the main stream media today.
Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not after you....I guess...
That is why if Hillary wins her goal is to shut down opposition media. Breitbart, Drudge etc. will be shut down if she wins. She has already said so. Link please?
Come on. All of what you said here could easily be written and substantiated by wingnuts on both ends of the political spectrum. There's plenty of "evidence" to go around. Do you really think that people, in general, investigate various media sources, mainstream or otherwise, to evaluate and give shape to their open-minded political opinions?
People read and spew back whatever corroborates their already deeply rooted beliefs. And these days what they "read" is usually no more than a sound bite that some media chimp has deemed important. Or if folks are feeling deeply inquisitive, maybe they'll dig deep and read 1-2 paragraphs. Then it's on to the next 30 second clip....
Yup. Can't believe Bochy is still trotting Casilla out there with the game on the line. Worse than Byung-hyun Kim in the 2001 series.
Saw some funky stuff at Friday's close on a lot of stocks. Spiking up or down in final minutes. Anyone know what that was?
Probably just Wade re balancing his portfolio!
Grandy coming through in the 'what have you done for me lately" category again! The dude sure knows how to make up for a mediocre season! Looks like the Cards will get swept in SF...a real psychological blow this late in the season.
Some great races for Cy Young and MVP in both leagues. None of the 4 awards seems clear cut at this point. If I were voting today:
NL MVP: Murphy, Nats
AL MVP: Beltre, Rangers
NL Cy: Lester, Cubs
AL CY: Britton, Orioles
I suspect Porcello will get the nod in the AL, and winning 20 is no small achievement, but the Red Sox offense has allowed him to win 20 while not being overly dominant for any stretch of time this season. Happ has had a very similar year in Toronto for the same reason.
Hamels stinks it up again. Can't blame this one on the sizzling line up he was facing.
This is the time of year when you're looking for your ace to hit on all cylinders, ie, Lester, not start showing signs of a dead arm.
If you're not worried about Hamels' arm, you should be. Yes, the Rangers have a mighty line-up, but the Jays and Red Sox can hit with them 1-9. AL winner will come down to who executes on the mound. For the Rangers, that means Hamels.
Gotta hand it to the Mets- they've lit it up lately, just as you forecast, and it does indeed look like a WC berth is a' comin'. I guess someone has to lose the WC game....might as well be the Mets.
I can't see anyone taking the NL except the Cubs- they're the only NL playoff team with a rock solid rotation going into October.
The AL looks much more interesting as between the Rangers, Red Sox and Tribe, the starters in Cleveland look better 1-4, but if Hamels pulls his head out, the way Yu has been groovin', Texas could romp.
What's up with Cole Hamels? He's been getting shelled worse than a Syrian village. You Rangers fans better hope he gets it straightened out quick smart if you want to go deep into the playoffs.
