You are right, you can take out your contributions without penalty, but not the earnings of your contributions before you meet the minimum age and minimum wait period.

I not an accountant either but I believe u have to wait 5 years or be 59 1/2 years old that u can pull it out tax free if they started contributing to it now.
You have to be min. 59 1/2 years old and your account has to be min. 5 years old to withdraw with no penalty. Therefore if you are 58 years old say and you open a Roth IRA today, you will have to wait till end of 2024 to be able to withdraw at age 62. The wait period starts from the beginning of the tax year, so that translates to 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 as the wait period.
You can convert a traditional IRA to a Roth IRA. All the shares in your traditional IRA will be moved over to the Roth IRA. Keep in mind though that you will be taxed on the dollar value that you transfer. For example if you are transferring cash and/or shares worth $100K and you are in the 30% tax bracket, you will have to pay $30K in taxes when you file your 2020 return next year.
Once you convert and pay taxes on the amount converted, what resides in your Roth account is tax free. Your $100K - $30K(tax) = $70K could grow to millions of dollars and it will all be tax free.
With a traditional IRA you get taxed when you withdraw. With a Roth IRA there is no tax when you withdraw. You could grow your account from a few thousand dollars to millions and pay no tax.
Many investors are ignorant about gaps and so get excited about them. Eventually people realize most gaps fill and so a gap-up is a hindrance and a liability. not something to hope for or get excited about.

Recently when the PPS was about to run down from .001, a guy on Twitter called them to see if they had a PR coming shortly. The guy who he spoke to gave him high hopes saying “we have some good news and I am drafting a PR as we speak which will be out tomorrow“. Poor guy was all excited and tweeted the same. Lot of people hoping for a good bump in PPS bought that evening. Next morning there was no PR. He then called them multiple times over a few days and they kept saying it will be out shortly. They kept everyone's hopes up for ppl to scoop shares. Eventually they came out with a PR about a piddly contract for 189K which did diddly for the PPS. From there on the PPS has drifted down to where we are now, well diluted.
It is hard to trust these crooks after experiencing this crooked behavior.

Unfortunately I now realize these guys running this company are crooks. I wish I had an inkling earlier. I regret having invested in this company. Luckily it's a small amount. Nevertheless it as been very frustrating. I am sure there are many over here as frustrated as I am. I hope we get lucky and recover our investment.

A company that has great potential and that has stated it is working on going current would without a doubt peek the interest of any astute investor who will watch the ticker like a hawk wanting to jump in right away or wait for it to go current. Hedge-funds are not hardwired. They are smart enough to watch an opportunity and take it at an appropriate time they see best. As an investor we need to do all we can to bring this ticker to the attention of any potential big investor.
Well, if you assumed right from the start that the PR is not fake, good for you. This is the OTC and nothing can be left to assumption, hence this DD is helpful to a multitude of us to let us know the effort towards the merger is headed in the right direction. This DD adds confidence to a PR that states the LOI is non-binding. He deserves credit for the effort put and many of us are grateful to him for it.
