Burton, on the contrary - a dip is an opportunity to buy. Experienced investors will know to buy a good stock on the low.
It won't inspire confidence in your average Joe, but for many it is a rather large sign to buy.
Don't know if I can agree. I see pr as a way to add hype. If they have reason to be confident, then why release news they can hold for later use? Pr would reflect either desperation or a desire to keep their shareholders confident - so it's hard to decide.
Looks to be back in the 9's and has higher volume than most other Mj correlated stocks today. This one has been hard to call, yet has historically ridden back up after each dip.
Now now, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
Even if that opinion has an underlying objective to use misinformation towards the goal of bashing a stock to potentially buy in at lower numbers.
Needless to say, I see some people trying to misinform about this industry. Happy to contribute the factual arguments against those.
Wake, please go back and read my post to you. What you are pushing (though a valid concern) isn't the truth either.
When someone attempts to tell others he has the one truth is the way liars are unmasked.
Great point murk. Feds are standing back.
Something that I will always remember is back in the day it was easier to get cannabis as a minor than alcohol.
Regulation will make it tougher to get into the hands of young people by taking it away from the black market. This step ALSO quells pot from the view as a gateway drug. Taking cannabis away from the black market means people won't be exposed to these black market dealers who often sell more than just pot. Therefore buying cannabis won't expose you to other more harmful drugs.
Add in the quality control aspect where people won't have to buy a product potentially contaminated with mold or that terrible bud the Europeans had to deal with that was infused with glass beads to improve weight.
I could go on and on.
Wake - And that state law failed because medical cannabis rallied to end it. So either way you have an expanding market whether you have medical or recreational growers. Hmm - medical cannabis with enough funds to lobby means enough funds to expand.
While it may not create 'legal' customers - it doesn't matter because phot is selling grow equipment that is legal in all 50 states.
This vote will garner momentum and get them sales. When people are buying equipment they aren't required to state whether for recreational or medical.
Police said that when Denver decriminalized too and look what happened there. Step by step and as people feel their freedoms are less threatened, they will feel higher confidence getting into growing.
Bam, customers.
Thanks wake, but I did read that this would be a symbolic shift to tell people in general that if you want to grow and smoke for yourself, you may do so.
True, People Maine have been up to this for years. Had a bud who supplied his neighborhood with just one outdoor girl.
This vote IMHO is a great forecast of the shift in those seeking small recreational ways to grow. People will feel at ease growing for themselves and PHOT has the store front to sell. I understand and can agree with some of your points, but don't feel you understand this is a public forecast of the potential phot has available in Portland. It absolutely helps them sell their products.
Illigence - all people into Mj do not gravitate to mcigs as there has already been a large vaporizer market in place. a strong stock in that market will go far as people in general are gravitating from regular cigs to e cigs.
Right now, in a vast majority of the states that are illegal - people have to make the concentrates themselves. Not many are venturing there. Mcig will ebb and flow with the states. One to watch, but not one I would trust yet.

Called it at 9 pm tonight. Looks like a win!
100% agreed bagholder!
LED systems run cooler per watt and need less ventilation to stay cool.
Interesting because the initial cost of LED's is so much higher to start, but with lower power bills for cooling and operation - they could be worth their while overall.
As an amateur, I started with a very small 150watt HPS light with ballast built in the fixture. Incrementally moved up to 250watt, 600 watt and so forth. Once 600 watt - the digital ballasts were out which would allow me to switch from MH to HPS as the ballast would run either bulb instead of one specific bulb.
What they're trying to do with LED's however, will prove awesome results once perfected. Here is a good video explaining it.
Bagholder, feel free to read some of my posts. You may find some of the pertinent information you are looking for in terms of how I feel about the company as a fellow grower.
I agree, phot has full product lines at great prices.
Stealthgrow is their LED line. 50 watts of any light will not grow much of anything, perhaps a single auto flowering strain for personal growers. though I am tempted to say at low wattage, led will outperform other light sources based on usable spectrum. Most effectively used on a single plant.
In a previous post I included a review of LEDs from high times, they gave it a sparkling review with comparable yields to HIDs - though the big news was better potency. If you don't want to search my posts, you should be able to google this. Technology and cost of LED lighting is still improving, in 1-3 years we will see a spike in LED users. There are already a large amount of people using high output LED lamps paired with HID lights and I believe this is one of the most effective techniques so far.
Since phot sells both hid and led lighting, they will be ready once the industry turns in favor of LEDs.
Your ramblings are still welcomed.
After all, it makes for a productive back and forth of fact exchange. I'd like to see a negative claim that I couldn't argue against. That would make me think.
True, I will be as long as I can be on this stock - I agree with you that it's not one for shorts!
Have a great weekend.
Was Rome built in a day?
The fact that it has held up with higher highs and higher lows as we consolidate for the next leg up isn't a screaming buy sign in what way? Lots of people who hesitate won't be able to engage in the green rush - growers included.
I don't blame you for wanting in at a lower price spivvy, but posting random ramblings of easily countered negativity doesn't make your intentions any less transparent.
It all depends in how I feel after 11/15.
I may let go of a portion of my position, but if I have extreme confidence I will stay all in.
Would be tough if I sold some of my position only to miss a serious bump in price. All depends. Most likely will hold into a good amount into 2014.
Spivster, getting ready to miss the boat.
Yup, indoor produces better product.
So many factors that can make an outdoor crop do bady.
Even people who will find your outdoor and take from it.
Mold, pests, lack of potency, loss due to weather, etc.
Indoor is best because you can control the environment.
Spivster - I'm sorry if you are just now learning about the industry. you've gone out of your way to find one product of better price at a different website. Did you bother computing an average for all products a startup grower would need to purchase?
I already stated greners.com has better prices on MOST, not ALL equipment. I bet you didn't even check if greners would match that price.
Your previous post about strongly needing to consider tablet accessibility for website access is moot, as I can more easily see the range of products on greners with their layout than the very long list layout on the site you provided. It would take me longer to browse that site that is 'condensed' for tablets than it would browsing greners from a tablet. I could make a video on it to show you if you'd like.
Apologies spiv, logic and facts are tough to deny.
Spivster, took a look on that site - great example of a company that spent more on allowing tablet functionality and less pulling in worldwide name brands. Where are they?
Now try greners.com from your phone or tablet - instead of having to scroll through a long list, I can see all my items as I choose and zoom in on the one I'm interested in.
Really, to think tablet format is a concern of someone buying product from these websites - that's reaching far.
Kali, be more specific if you could please.
Your buddy in "high quality hydroponics" - what website does he use? Did he look at greners.com and when did he visit that site? What type of hydro does he run?
Just too vague in those details. See I can attest to the fact they carry name brands, I can also throw up some evidence vs other mainstream grow sites of lower prices for the same product. Will do this when I get home from work.
Been doing this 8 years now and even longer researching. I do prefer organic soils over hydro because I like to mess around with different strains each harvest.
Just sounds rather strange, "my friend is a total pro and he said this is crap and doesn't carry name brands." -when even a brief review of that site compared to others proves that statement false.
Spivster - No worries, Just seems whenever someone announces they won't be back, they're coming back to say, "ok so maybe I was wrong."
I bought some FB when it dipped below 50 because I had a good feeling about the earnings and they are trending back off the dip at close yesterday. Had it not been for some foolish pr on their part, it may have had a higher spike.
I have no doubts about the way this industry is heading, so I have no doubt about phot's financials or longevity.
People outside of the industry seem to have much less of an understanding to how significant greners, stealthgrow LEDs and sgsensors are in the market. So much concern over the storefronts themselves and no consideration of online sales.
Online grower communities are buzzing about greners. newbies will search these communities to acquire information and get directed to greners for their supplies. Supplies that ship to all 50 states. People who grow in states that haven't yet endorsed Mj medically or recreationally will order their gear online instead of going to a hydro store in public.
Spivster, curious why with many holding and more buying why this would be your conclusion?
Considering what is coming in the next few weeks and 2014 around the corner.
Perhaps I am considering more industry trends and not stock history - though industry trends seem to be in the driver's seat.
Intriguing how well this stock holds.
Without news, and bashers storming these boards each morning.
Rational worry about dilution from dude illigence, but dilution can work as a positive - which is how they seem to be using it. I find it irrational to overestimate the dilution to incite uncertainty.
Doesn't affect the Portland vote.
What that news does tell me? Medical MJ shops have established enough money to effectively lobby votes for themselves. This vote was about Maine as a whole, correct? If the article holds any water, that means medical cannabis dispensary groups are making enough money to lobby for their interests. Doesn't sound pretty, but its what profitable companies do when their interests are on the line.
This shows medical cannabis has proven profitable enough to flourish. They want to keep their earnings and will fight for them.
One way or another, that grow equipment is getting purchased. Could be a good sign for PHOT - big money flowing in from medical cannabis companies accented with small money from recreational or start up growers.
Colorado needed Denver as the catalyst for their legalization, as will Maine need Portland. A major city signs on, and its a sure bet the state will soon follow.
what about PHOT and a seedbank? I'm curious why someone posted that yesterday. If phot got involved in distribution of seed, my ears would perk up. Do you know how much breeders of unique genetics are charging? It’s about $100-$150 for a single pack of 5-10 seeds for the core of a lot of higher quality seeds from established breeders.
If a grow shop were able to sell the seeds with their products, then you are cutting out all the externals and giving your customer every last thing they need to make it happen. It would be like selling tomato seeds in the garden section. Future growers wouldn’t be paranoid about having to get their seeds shipped from overseas shops. If they plan to sell seeds/clones of good genetics, this would seal it for me. If they will expand to have more shops, those shops will need to be stocked with good genetics and a number of low cost strains as well.
Lots of dispensaries sell clones in California, don't think I've seen genetics at a grow shop with no medical license.
Then you have this whole issue of seeds making it to states that aren't legal. People crossing border with them, more pressure on government to end this thing so law enforcement can get back to reduction of violent crimes.
California med scene is a joke though.
I went to visit for a week, got my card and went to a dispensary and made purchases without being a California resident. Though some dispensaries are more vigilant than others, it's so much out of whack that it will be legalized for recreational use just to get the abuse of the medical system out of the way.
For instance in smoke shops they have cards advertising doctors who will automatically grant you the ability to grow 99 plants (state limit). Partner up with 2 others with the same rec and you have eh ability to grow nearly 300 legally.
Medical is just he stepping stone to recreational, though I strongly support and agree that Mj has significant medical benefits from low to high priorities in patients.
Response to Lamerica's q's
3. Agreed, these next steps will decide the position phot keeps and confirm or dismiss whether it will really become 'Walmart of cannabis'. I would personally like it to keep a small shop appeal, but you can't argue with the profitability of a Titan.
5. I don't think or know if hemp itself can do this. Hemp is different than cannabis in that hemp is used to make paper, rope, clothes, etc. proponents for hemp will argue that hemp is a stronger fiber and will make better rope than conventional methods. Take into consideration companies already sell hemp based shoes, backpacks, etc - I ultimately lack the proper information on hemp to comment in full. I strongly believe hemp will be cultivated in outdoor mass scales and sold to smaller companies to process the material into marketable items. If a company came along that owned production and processing, I would be intrigued.
6. Yes, in fact if you visit a local hydro shop you will likely see aisles split up by soils, ferts, hydro equipment, lighting and environment control.
7. As far as I know, hemp itself depends less on production quality and more on quantity. IMHO hemp will be grown almost ALL outside and therefore I don't see much potential for something like GIFT to apply to the hemp industry versus the cannabis industry.
In response to Lamerica's questions.
1. Products at greners and most mainstream online grow sites are comparable. It really comes down to customer service and speed in the end. They lack online chat help which is provided by one other competitor, but also not reliable. Greners carries a comprehensive product line whether you're a high volume grower or want to just provide for yourself and or friends.
2. Equipment is down to the manufacturer of lights they choose to use. So far, they have invested in keeping products that all growers should easily be able to use - though I can't comment on their LED's, you can find reviews if you google. Again, they provide to the mainstream as many others will - the advantage I can see for myself is lower prices for certain gear such as HID lighting.
3. Not extremely difficult, I see bghydro.com as a big competitor and if it wasn't for reliability issues, i would still use bghydro today. What you are talking about is just the equipment side, and phot is establishing that. If you are a big player just jumping in, you need a team that will know how to build it. I have no doubt competitors will emerge. Will they be able to make it successful when phot has already been there and dealt with the hurdles they would first be facing? Debatable.
4. Made an order at greners, called and talked to their cs to make sure everything would be as I wanted. Man on phone was polite and tended to my questions with reassurance. I was not under the impression this was some stoner with a part time job, but rather an individual working on behalf of the company.
5. Both will happen. There will always be people just jumping into the grow business with no idea how to grow. It took me 3 times before I really understood what it would take to bring flavor, scent and potency out. There will be and had been a large market for personal and commercial growers. This bubble has not yet popped, it's barely become a bubble. I view this the same as I view phot's current standing - a more experienced company will know a better product as will a more experienced grower produce a better quality and quantity of end product. There is big talk on grow forums for people who are afraid of the influx of 'crappy bud' that is already showing itself in California. Final verdict is high quality buds will always fetch a higher price.
6. You will see a hybrid of this succeed the most. People these days want a one stop shop. Ideal shops will have an indoor area where the bulk of products will be showcased, possibly an outdoor area for soil (though not necessary to be outside, considering Mj growers freak out enough about mites and other bugs). Ideally though, you have a shop where employees educate their customers by selling. You need x because of y, you need y because of z. People who know how to grow holding the hands of the newbies.
7. Considering greners already sells high quality products at a comparably lower cost (though not every item is best price) I would say people will take strong advantage of this. I get a discount on your already (mostly) cheaper products? I would be IN that program if I resided in a state that applied to.
Hope this answers the questions. Please let me know if I didn't elaborate enough of any.
Yes, I have bought from greners.com when my former #1 store had their online shop go down for weeks.
I received everything as ordered, no damages, had tracking #, spoke with their customer service, stealth shipping.
Prices on a lot of their items beat out my former #1 store, so I still use greners for safety equipment, cloning supplies, nutrients and future lights + ventilation should I need it.
So now I use greners.com - it's the primary reason I chose to invest.
One additional note - this was also the website that grower forums had recommended I check and google had also brought up. If you delve into some grower forums you will find that a lot are recommending greners off of price and reliability.
Not many know what it takes to grow. I thank you for the warm welcome. Have been reading these boards for a couple months as well now.
I like this forum because there happens to be a lot of in-depth analysis on the stock side - but very little input on what it takes to grow. I believe knowing what and why growers will be purchasing is VITAL in knowing what to expect from this stock.
I see some say, "ANYONE can sell lights", or "This company won't last."
To the people who don't know what it takes to grow high quality, I have a little more information for you.
For example, shall we look at the importance of a grow tent?
Grow tents are popular because they offer more control over light output and light leaks. Why is this important? When a cannabis plant is flowering, it is very sensitive to anything that can disrupt the flowering light cycle. A cannabis plant flowers after experiencing a few days of light cycle 12/12. This means 12 hours of light, 12 hours of darkness. This is the trigger used after someone has vegetated their plants with an 18/6 light cycle or higher.
Another reason this is important is because a lot of growers are purchasing feminized seeds, or clones taken from plants grown from feminized seeds. Female is the plant that produces buds, male plants only produce pollen sacs and no buds.
Female seeds while reliable for producing female plants, are often more sensitive to an interruption in their flowering cycle. Such an interruption during the 12 hour dark cycle can cause the plant to hermaphrodite, causing pollen sacs to develop and cause seed to develop on said plant and surrounding plants.
Hermaphrodite plants not only lend to drops in quality, but also complaints by customers purchasing cannabis. People don't like seeded buds and who could blame them?
Tents also allow stronger light distribution as they have reflective interiors. This way you can get the most light inensity in the space you're working in.
You will see these tents also come equipped with openings for ventilation and supports for carbon filter placement - two more essentials for growing. All openings can be tightened or closed for light proofing.
I spoke about LED's earlier, but the better light product at this moment are digital ballasts. For those that don't know, HID lights (MH and HPS) have traditionally ran on magnetic ballasts. Magnetic ballasts produce a lot of heat and give off that loud electric HUM, many would argue they aren't as efficient at supplying power to the bulb compared to new digital ballasts either.
Enter digital ballasts, run cool enough to keep in the same room as the grow, starts the bulb instantly, and makes more efficient use of a bulb. The last detail is a claim they make which I haven't tested. Many growers have performed side by side results showing digital ballasts to provide higher yield.
Some websites like HIDhut make their own digital ballasts for purchase at a discounted cost. We don't buy HIDhut digital ballasts anymore because our first test with them had the ballast fail in 2 months. HIDhut offers replacement, but in the middle of a grow you need light IMMEDIATELY. We run Lumatek and Galaxy ballasts instead because we need reliability.
This info doesn't even scratch the surface on what it takes. Just a small trowel dig into a giant mound of information.
There are many different grow mediums, nutrients, more environmental controls, grow room safety, C02 dispersal, etc, etc. Gosh, this industry has even been revolutionized with something as simple as a breathable pot for your soil that keeps the plant from getting rootbound - thus allowing stronger growth in a smaller pot.
I'm going to buy a stock in a company that can sell this vast array of products to all 50 states while legally reporting their earnings. Is there any other brick and mortar pot stock out there? Because this one will see the money first. Once legal restrictions ease up and we see more states allowing production - I will look into an additional investment with a company that is able to efficiently provide top quality cannabis products to patients or for recreational users. Until those stocks stabilize or show themselves, it is MUCH safer to stay with a stock such as this that is focused on providing all necessary equipment.
Some industry insight.
A while back, we used a company called bghydro for our supplies as they seemed to have the most conclusive inventory. A short time ago, bghydro's online store went down for a long duration and we needed a new place to purchase supplies.
So I went online and started researching. Between grower message boards and google reviews, I was pointed in the direction of Greners.com. Turned out Greners was a fine substitute and I've used them ever since. Greners had generally lower prices than bghydro and when I called Greners, someone always picked up. With good prices, stealth packaging and prompt shipment (for items in-stock), I had no reason to switch back from them.
I see a lot posting about the Phototron, this is far from their main product. Phototron is for small time growers who just want to provide for themselves and maybe a few friends. Introducing LED technology to the Phototron will renew interest for stealth growers to try it out.
Big money is coming in from the new trend in LED grow lights.
Here is an article for a high times test run to compare LED to HID.
http://www.hightimes.com/read/light-and-led-zeppelin-will-leds-sink-or-soar-growroom
Once LED becomes cheaper in production cost, they will begin to compete with HID lighting. A combination of improved technology and larger volume purchases is leading the industry to a point where more people can afford LED grow lights.
Then you have a brand in this company that is to monitor your grow room. Because people know of the small chance of fire, safety will be an expense most intelligent growers won't skimp on.
So when I look at PHOT, I see a company who sells all the equipment from grow tents, safety equipment, and each style of lighting with all the accessories in between. If you include hydroponic equipment and all the things needed to monitor your conditions in hydro, you have a tremendous company on the horizon.
When I first jumped into MJ stocks a couple months ago, I started researching as much as possible. Had some stock in MJNA, CBIS, HEMP, FITX and GWPH. After my research was done, only GWPH remained and I added PHOT in there as well.
With so many companies having bad leadership or legal issues, PHOT looks like the safest/strongest choice to me.
I wouldn't be surprised if that convertible note was so they could set up a few grow locations either.
Just input from someone actually in it.
