It seems to me that Musclepharm is a counter cyclical stock that many times goes up when the broader market goes down....and I'm kind of getting the feeling that Musclepharm might take off from here while the broader market is going down.
The fact is that Musclepharm is sort of a stock many daytraders believe in, but few want to trade when everything else goes up. When everything else goes down, many admit that the stock is kind of undervalued compared to other stocks and they jump in buying the stock.
I wonder if Codie knows Anthony?
I would like to see $14..that's where it belongs.
Good branding with MP Sports Science Institute site that informs consumers about quality tests of products.
Such trust building branding supports manufacturing in America.
Capstone Nutrition....it is some neat facilities it got...and lots of things could be done to replicate production internationally if merging profitably.
http://capstonenutrition.com/facilities-capacity/
I still hope for a little weaker US dollar, because as it is now...Musclepharm will have a hard time growing sales abroad beyond what it already got. The US dollar being strong, gives an incentive to pursue domestic markets though.......so, lets see!
just another scumbag from Jersey....reminds me that I need to get a haircut in Hollywood later today...hopefully I wont be pushed some pills on the way over there.
We are going to see some stock market correction pretty soon....rising interest rates looming, strong US dollar, rising US sovereign debt where we still are debtors to rest of World and the emerging markets are debtors to us....it's not a good cocktail.
The economy is strong but it is financed partially by Chinamen that are hurting because of the imbalances of interest rate and currencies....Emerging markets are hurting because the Chinese are hurting and because they owe money in US dollars. I have a hard time seeing multinationals and export companies cheering.
The correction came 1 year late because of some pickup in US economy....now it's very close.
Musclepharm may not be impacted so much by any correction....but we never know. The acquisition of Capstone suggestion might look better on the other side of a correction.
cut Capstone in half!
Capstone got the double capacity of what Musclepharm really needs....I have a hard time understanding the transaction.
If Capstone sold off one of the facilities, then I could see lots of upside potential for Musclepharm.
Musclepharm needs manufacturing in Utah and abroad for foreign markets....there is no way around it. Any serious company manufactures where it is cheapest.
I visited the West Coast some weeks ago, more specifically Naples and Fort Myers and I have no plan of returning there ever.
The traffic is just as bad as in Miami, just that it's 80% snowbirds on the roads. The food was not too bad though, but I guess choosing a gourmet restaurant in Fort Myers gives anybody a break from annoying snowbirds...
I have never been to Sarasota, I believe it is little fancier than Fort Myers and more similar to Naples in wealth of people going there.
I have heard that there are many more women than men living there, so I guess it's a good place for single men visiting outside the tourist season.
there is a lot of old snowbirds living in trailers on the West Coast of Florida....I wonder what they need Arnold Iron Whey for? Denny's gotten too fancy?
I pray for a weaker US dollar....the weakening of the Euro, Canadian dollar, the Russian ruble and Brazilian real over the last 12 months costs Musclepharm millions of dollars a year....if it indeed gets 30% from international sales.
Inflation is high in Brazil and like 2% in Canada....so, that offsets part of the US dollar strengthening....but in Russia and Europe ex. UK and Switzerland, holy cow!
There is some price elasticity for these kind of products and bodybuilders abroad may be willing to pay a little more.....but there will be a limit...
Most likely Capstone Nutrition has a large capacity in producing powders. Producing powders and protein bars for self and other sports nutrition companies may not be such a bad idea....in particular if Musclepharm could initiate partnerships with small niche brands to both manufacture and distribute their products in exchange for cash and ownership in them.
Regarding Capstone Nutrition acquisition, that possible is sensible to some degree:
From an exchange rate point of view, you would argue that looking at what competitors have done makes little sense....as the US dollar has gone from being a very cheap currency 12 months ago, to become an extremely pricey one lately.
From a regulatory, financing and manufacturing standard point of view, the discussion may be different...it might be that there is no other option than producing protein powders in America, to satisfy the FDA....this is definitely not the case when it comes to tablets and capsules that can be made in China and Europe at similar standards as here....as 80% of blockbuster medicines are made abroad.
My feeling is that Brad is buying more manufacturing in America than what he needs, and that getting dragged into contract manufacturing of tablets and capsules in America is less attractive.
he still owns 60% of his original position, so that's not really shorting it.
The latest deal with Capstone Nutrition could turn out to not being that promising from Frost's perspective though....given that Musclepharm got 30% of sales from export. Manufacturing in Utah and Tennessee makes a whole lot more sense than manufacturing in California....right, Elon Musk!
EUR/USD=1.2 and CAD/USD=0.90 would make me a whole lot more comfortable with the decision to invest $200 million in a manufacturing facility in Utah.
If the US dollar remains strong then we should expect to see foreign contract manufacturers for supplements squeeze US manufacturers....something that the management at Capstone Nutrition most likely left out of the conversation with Musclepharm.
nice!

There is some chance that Musclepharm turns into $50 share in a couple of years if any of these products make it big and it acquires Capstone Nutrition.
Musclepharm should consider signing Cheyenne Woods for the Fitmiss line....She seems like a bright girl and she carries the Woods name....meaning Nike had to sign her.
Again, it only makes sense if Musclepharm is actually allowed to use her precious Woods name by Nike.
Clearly some synergies for any company being represented by the Woods family with a member of both sexes and from different generations.
http://video.foxnews.com/v/4104633864001/tiger-woods-niece-just-joined-lpga-tour/?#sp=show-clips
Clearly Tiger Woods or Nike is not letting Musclepharm write anything about Tiger Woods on Musclepharm.com.
When you have an expensive endorsement, then you want to use it from day one.
Tiger Woods' name is worth more when he doesn't play golf....because after all the foolishness that broke up his marriage, and numerous back injuries....the chance of him returning to golf as a champion is slim to none.
Institutional investors should ask about the plans regarding Tiger Woods as well.
Hopefully, we won't be left with many unanswered questions after the conference call.
After last conference call we felt that Brad was talking nonsense when he told us that he wanted to be the next Schiff Nutrition....now we realize that it was not just talks, but something he really is aiming at.
With capabilities to manufacture supplements at large, Musclepharm might enter the market for vitamin pills and other supplements with a separate brand.
Actions speak louder than words....so lets see what it all pans out to.
signing Tiger Woods was a joke though.
It seems like Tiger Woods won't allow Musclepharm to use his name as freely as Nike, even after he has turned into shiit.
Musclepharm has only been allowed to write that "Musclepharm signs Tiger Woods".....what a disaster of a deal that was!
Musclepharm should go to court and sue Tiger Woods for not letting them use his name for anything. This was a phony deal from day one.
if it doesn't lose too much money or posts a tiny profit, then it would be.
The US dollar is terribly strong at the moment and that is a HUGE problem to any company that relies heavily on international sales....so, even if revenue is not too impressive, it's not all too bad.
Q1 revenues will hurt even more from the strengthening US dollar....and possibly from the missing sales at Walmart and Sam's Club as well.
I just hope that q2 gonna be good, be it from weakening US dollar pushing international sales or from explosive sales growth of protein bars domestically.
Short term, the stock may jump to $10...but to get back to $12-14 price range, the acquisition needs to push through and Musclepharm would need to sell more through GNC and Costco.
I won't count on sales from Sam's Club and Walmart until we get some clarification regarding the lack of Arnold Iron Whey at Walmart and Sam's Club stores. It might be some temporary issue, but it could just as well be some permanent issue...who knows?
Shouldn't Musclepharm tell us what Capstone earned in 2014?
Codie, would $15 be a realistic price by July?
multi bagger stock if Capstone Nutrition acquisition indeed will lead to profitability....only "if"
perhaps the SEC investigation is ending soon....ever thought of that?
Why would Brad even consider buying Capstone Nutrition during a SEC investigation?....that sounds like madness to me...The terms of the financing would be much worse than if it wasn't under investigation.
I have the feeling that Musclepharm could be near the end of the SEC investigation.
Still, many other questions remain....like what will it sell through Walmart? protein bars or hot air?
Also, there is no mention of Capstone producing protein bars....so, would protein bar manufacturing capabilities be something that Capstone would expand into?
There is absolutely no interest in this company at this moment.....
There is a lack of transparency and trustworthiness in this company. The CEO seems to use shareholder's letters to inform shareholders how much he is going to reward himself this year, and doesn't imo appear to be genuinely concerned about shareholders.
There are no pictures of key executives and board members on the corporate web-site and very infrequent public appearances with the key executives of the company.
Musclepharm is like a black box, and what slips out to the public is for the most part bad news.
CC on St Patty's day, I guess I'm gonna drink 100 beers and make 5 women pregnant this time around....
The most interesting conference call ever.
Brad will be questioned about the financing and the time frame of an acquisition for sure.
Hopefully, we will get some clarification regarding the Walmart partnership.
It's hard selling through Walmart, because you may end up pricing your product too high and it won't sell, or you may be pricing it too low and you won't make any money. I think it was a combination of both....The beauty and nutrition product categories at Walmart are particularly competitive and low price oriented....so not easy at all.
You product cannot cost more than $20, and apart from the protein bar category, there ain't much else that Musclepharm could successfully sell at such low prices.
the fact is that Musclepharm should have focussed on Sam's Club and forgotten about Walmart for powders. It's only MuscleTech that can compete there....and they produce out of Canada I presume.
For Energy drinks, Walmart won't work either....but for protein bars, yes, that would be a good outlet for that.
Eventually, Walmart will sell it's own private label of protein...at that time, Musclepharm could consider being the branded alternative...because then nobody will buy the Six Star and bodyfortress brands any longer.
not in Miami, it's Body Fortress and Six Star that is selling...Again Musclepharm is unrealistic about what it can handle.
Glanbia sells for 5 times more than Musclepharm with complete vertical integration and headquarters in Ireland.
Musclepharm should sell itself to Glanbia and stop competing against it.
We are wasting our time with nonsense imo....bad contracts, executives that issue stocks excessively in all directions and a whole lot of other bad decisions....it's nuts and investors are not buying more into it any longer.
Frost sold 40% of his shares before the company even was known to any body outside this board....not particularly encouraging.
When are we gonna get q4 results? next Christmas it seems to me.
The company is nuts and I'm invested heavily into it....I hope that Frost and other institutional investors take some action and question the management and board about all this nonsense.
The unreasonable terms of resignations, the stock buybacks with raised money, the 20% plus yearly dilutions, the SEC investigation, the delayed quarterly results....at some point, somebody gotta ask what it's all about?
Musclepharm's stock went from $14 to $8...and it trades at less than 1 price to revenue....because nobody can freakin trust the company!
Musclepharm is a mess...I have to admit that the company's management does little to attract new potential investors.
Why would any company make an announcement regarding a potential acquisition after having skipped the yearly shareholder letter and delayed the announcement of q4 results?
At the same time, Musclepharm fires the CFO hired last year, after another CFO served for short period of time....all while being investigated by the SEC?
Also, launching the product at Walmart and Sam's Club and then a few months later not appearing in the store any longer.
Furthermore, Musclepharm is buying back for more the Musclepharm Apparel rights it sold last year?????
Fck man, even smoking weed on a daily basis should not create that much chaos.
could be that Musclepharm follows my advice and launches a separate (Walmart) Blue edition of the Arnold Iron line meant for Walmart and Sam's Club, with cheaper ingredients.
It was a big mistake of Musclepharm to sell the same product through GNC and Walmart in the first place..
perhaps you are on to something there....I do notice that the product disappeared from the Sam's Club web-site.
There could be numerous explanations to this...it could be problems related to manufacturing that many products at competitive pricing...and thus have something to do with the Capstone deal...or it could be related to the undergoing lawsuit.
Whatever the explanation, it doesn't look good...so, hopefully it won't ruin Musclepharm's relationship to Walmart.
there is no volume because it is more than 100 days since there was an update on earnings and revenue.
The volume will go up whenever the q4 results are announced....either to the downside, to stay flat or to go up.
It seems like Musclepharm is worth around $200 million in an acquisition as of today....with production capabilities...the price might be higher, like $300 million net of debt.
it is more likely that Sam's Club will carry the line and not Walmart...or that you will see more Arnold Iron products on the shelves of Walmart, now where we got better price terms with Capstone Nutrition.
The Nike of Supplements is a little bit exaggerated.
When it comes to branding and multi product development fostering rapid growth, Cytosport, Musclesport and Nutramino (Denmark) have been among the winners. For deveopment and branding of a singular product, Premier Protein and Quest Nutrition have been the winners.
Cytosport and Nutramino spent a lot less money on endorsements and sponsorships compared to Musclepharm though, explaining why they were bought by Hormel foods and Glanbia. Glanbia sells for more than $1 billion in sports nutrition per year.
I would be happy if Glanbia bought Musclepharm for $200 million...less risk for me.

This Friday, I was hanging out in Hialeah to fix my car.
Hialeah is part of Miami Metro area and 100% Cuban...so, not typical Florida, but more young people, and many of them working out. The Cubans, like the Puerto Ricans are much into typical sex roles, where a man has to be macho and the woman very feminine. (Cuban women are worth going to the gym for, in all honesty).
Walmart in Central Hialeah, close to two LA Fitness...and it carried no Arnold Iron. Damn, Musclepharm got a good market there....but it got no products on the shelves?
the closer I look at these Oxysport Black products, the more I like them.
I guess the silly names of the lines don't matter that much, as long as all the products present themselves well and in coherent fashion....
The Core, Hybrid and Oxysport names are not even written on the products as far as I can tell. It is all about different colors, separating the different lines....similar to Hugo Boss, that uses the colors Black and Orange to separate different collections.
Musclepharm is building on what it knows work, and not trying to reinvent the wheel another time.
Yeah, all in all, it's an A minus grade to Musclepharm for branding....there is room for minor improvements, but it's given that Musclepharm will cross the $200 million revenue and head towards the $300 million.
when we see the final products at the shelves at GNC, then we can cast final judgement.
I do prefer powerful names...like monster, redbull, 5 hour energy, muscle, iron, chrome, nickel, mustang, combat, assault (not too crazy about it, but it's powerful), etc.
Hardcore and Oxysport kind of say nothing..The word hardcore was overused by porn industry in the 90ties and the word Oxy is being overused in cleaning products.
WARRIORS is a good name, along with hundreds other powerful names available.
