Bicker, Bicker, Bicker! I love it because it means the stock is going up now. There is no questioning of the IDCC 3G patent portfolio or the position of the company in the marketplace. The noise is about management competence, greed, stock buyback or dividend, and second guessing their decisions. It sounds like the day after the Super Bowl or the World Series, when the press asks the winning manager "what are you going to do next year?"
IDCC settled with Ericsson, Nokia, and Samsung. A triple play.
The CEO has declared that IDCC will dominate 3G. I trust him.
As an investor, I like the risk reward at $31 a share. A risk of $6 against a reward of $20-30 over the next year. Let's argue about these numbers.
If I follow Tom Carpenter's investment approach, I will sell tomorrow at $31 and wait for his recommendation to buy after IDCC signs one or two 3G contracts with the majors. I will probably pay $35 or more depending on how quickly he acts. I won't buy or hold in anticipation of IDCC success. I can't help asking whether Tom is a successful investor or just an analyst.
Koreans need to save face. I am surprised they didn't settle before the ICC decision. I can only assume that their legal department was afraid to tell top management that they would likely lose. Now I doubt they will dispute the decision and face further embarrassment. I predict they will pay and minimize the publicity.
Hetty, most TSX stocks trade in the US on the Pink Sheets with a different symbol and in US Dollars. Your broker can get you the symbol and the bid and asked prices. You can then trade them yourself at a low commission using your computer. Schwab and Fidelity encourage you to get a quote and trade yourself.

Good luck!
$32.02 There seems to be a correlation between the sound and fury on this board and the rise in the stock price. Let's hear more about the stupidity and venality of IDCC management so we can get to $50. I will start it off. We would have reached an arbitration agreement with those nice guys at Samsung if it wasn't for the poor negotiating skills of WM. Whoops. Someone read this message and sold us down below $32. Maybe, I wasn't rough enough.

Half Full, I agree with you. I suggested this before and was dumped on by this board. At a minimum, a statement by Moro that the Abbott evaluation is proceeding as planned and could be completed by yearend or that the feedback fromm ABT is positive.
Spencer, I hope a Motorola executive was walking by under your window at the time. LOL
I can't pretend that I understand the Samsung arbitration. It seems to me that they want the Nokia agreement with 3G but not the original payment obligation. I am surprised that there isn't
more outrage. I cancelled a Nokia phone and will now boycott any appliance with Samsung on it. I don't understand how anyone can do business with them.
ziploc, what would you say if HC sold his stock shortly after a Samsung agreement? Would you accuse him of insider trading because he knew an agreement/settlement was coming? When do you believe is an appropriate time for an insider to sell when new licenses are expected?
This is terrible!. Good news about awards and gene silencing in cancer. Now we have to worry about the stock rising in price. Is it a conspiracy by incompetent management? Maybe I should sell my 100 shares before the stock falls. What should I do?
QCOM is down to $38.72. IDCC is at $33.92. With new IPR licenses, IDCC could sell for a higher price than QCOM very soon.
Can you believe it?
spencer, Thank you for your response.
Nokia-Siemens equipment merger. What is the implication for IDCC IPR licensing? TIA
my3s, Now that the situation has changed, I predict that Cramer will declare Interdigital is "Best of Breed" and QCOM is just too litigious. Then, Forbes will agree.
TFWG, Don't try to be too smart. You will be in the dog house when she blames you for not sharing the good news with her. Remember the first law of marriage," you will never be right"
Your only way out is to buy her a new car with compliments of Interdigital.
The best part of the new highs in IDCC is my new found respect from my family. I am no longer considered as a goofy fanatic of an obscure stock with a losing record. My wife has gone from patient skepticism to mild optimism. We are not at wild enthusiasm yet. We will get there!
Gold discovered across the parking lot from the Post Office in King of Prussia. The miners are mostly old, gray haired men and women who have finally emerged from a long dark tunnel with smiles on their faces. It appears that a trainload of new miners are now digging in the mine. Good luck to all.
Chartists & technicians. IDCC has a bullish cup and handle formation. EOM
Revlis, if you invested $30 on Mar 27 2000 in a bond paying 5% interest, you would now have over $40. IDCC has been interesting and exciting at times but a lousy investment. I will change my opinion when it exceeds $40 this year. I look forward to shaking hand in Princeton this year and bragging about our investment genius.
For new investors, this is a great time to buy IDCC.
erthang, You misunderstood my message. BOCX needs a higher stock price so they can raise money by selling stock for more than $1.00 per share. I believe that Dr. Moro should negotiate with Abbott to get a positive statement from them for this reason. Biocurex has a great deal of researc to do and they need to raise money.
bocxman, It would help convince BOCX to give them an exclusive license. I hope this is a mutually beneficial relationship. There are more developments coming from BOCX and Abbott would like to benefit. Biocurex needs funding for their research and this is an economical way to fund it. Your answer implies that Abbott is not cooperating but seeking to exploit Biocurex.
bocxman, Please explain why Abbott does not issue a simple statement to the effect that they have been evaluating the Biocurex RECAF technology and that it continues to show promise as a diagnostic for cancer. It is still too early to predict whether they can develop it into a product.
This simple statement would increase the stock price and permit BOCX to finance their research. TIA
Maya quotes Tal who agrees with Um that QCOM is No.1 in W-CDMA. IDCC IR needs to inform Maya, Tal, and Um about IDCC IPR.
QED
Um of UBS favors NOK over QCOM because of their growing IPR in W-CDMA and joint venture with Sanyo but ignores IDCC essential IPR. How come?
Does anyone understand what the Judge said? If so, please explain in 25 words or less what it means for IDCC. We lost or we won or it doesn't matter. TIA
I just heard from Madame in Paris. She revealed that Mr. Oolala had faulty equipment which is essential for customer satisfaction. She heard a rumor that Judge Pomme-free wouldn't be able to decide which end is up in such a case. Life is difficult now in Paris because her clients use her services but don't pay their bills even though everyone agrees that they are essential. LOL

Quote of the Day:
"Price fluctuations have only one significant meaning for the true investor. They provide him with an opportunity to buy wisely when prices fall sharply and to sell wisely when they advance a great deal. At other times he will do better if he forgets about the stock market and pays attention to…the operating results of his companies." - Ben Graham
From StonerangerO on Raging Bull.
gutaquest, I would guess that the raw material cost of a pharmaceutical would be about 10% of the manufacturing cost. These are batch operations run at small scale. There are separation, purification, and analytical costs. I estimate income in the millions from the GE raw materials. JMO
New patent strategy. Why not offer exclusive licenses on selected new patents to preferred paying licensees? This is an incentive to sign up and pay for exising IPR. Can Samsung afford to allow LG or Japanese competitor to obtain an exclusive license on any important patent. Can Motorola? I won't even mention the other licensee that can invent around anything that IDCC does. This is a different strategy that flies in the face of the licensing bodies that have proven to be useless with their compulsary licensing of "essential" IPR.
I like exclusive. Keep out the cheapskates and freeloaders!
TFWG, what in the world is the issue to be heard before the Supreme Court? We wuz robbed? Freedom of international intercourse by Nokia? Jorma's Mama wanted an abortion which was denied? The Constitution was written to protect the Finns.
LOL
jtaylor, Thank you for your response. If a patent is valid and being infringed, is it reasonable to assume that it is essential? If it is merely important and readily crcumvented, why is it being infringed? Should the inventor and investor be penalized because the infringer is lazy, unwilling to pay the additional costs to circumvent, or stupid?
I believe in patent validity. You use it you pay. One additional point: The passage of time may drastically alter the essential nature of a patent. Is a patent essential for yesterday's product still essential after the introduction of new technology?
sjratty, when did essential become a part of patent terminology. Aren't their patents that are valid and useful which are not essential? My new Gillette razor with 4 blades is an example.
Att: Can anyone explain how IDCC will benefit from a Markman hearing in 2007 and judgement followed by appeals in 2009-2010. Please use the most optmistic scenario. TIA
JimLur, Is the ugly guy Jorma Ollila?
bigpike, Thank you for your prompt reponse. I am buying for my family, sisters, nieces, nephews, and their kids. Let's pray we won't need them.
bigpike, Where did you buy them?
TIA
olddog, There is a small but significant distinction between non-essential patents. You may be able to design around a non-essential patent but at significantly greater cost or with other disadvantages that have real economic value. The important question, is why the infringer is using the valid non-essential patent, if he could design around it with no difficulty or penalty. I don't believe a judge can determine that a non-essential patent has no economic value unless the alternative is described in detail and its disadvantages exposed.
