I just ate 5 pounds of sugar...
Sugar Increases Cancer Growth
Ross Hauser, M.D.
Endocrinology 101 says that if you eat sugar or a lot of carbohydrates, your blood sugar goes up. To get your blood sugar back in the normal range, your pancreas secretes insulin. The higher the blood sugar, the more insulin that is secreted.
If a person continues to eat too many carbohydrates over a long period of time, the cells of the body become resistant to the glucose-lowering effects of insulin. This medical condition is called insulin resistance. If the person doesn't change his or her diet and lifestyle, the condition can progress into overt diabetes or syndrome X. Syndrome X is a term used to describe a constellation of risk factors for heart disease, including insulin resistance, high cholesterol and triglyceride levels, high blood pressure, and obesity. The underlying metabolic denominator in syndrome X is elevated insulin levels. There is little doubt about what contributes to these elevations-an elevated intake of refined carbohydrates.
Interestingly, research has shown that countries with the highest consumption of sugar also have the highest breast cancer mortality.
Sugar Is Poison
A poison, as defined by Stedman's Medical Dictionary, is any substance, either taken internally or applied externally that is injurious to health or dangerous to life. Surely sugar meets this definition as its effects on the human body over time can lead to the following conditions:
Bob Filice,
M.D.
Marion Hauser, M.S.,R.D.
When the blood sugar becomes too high, metabolism is altered, and disease processes begin. In regard to cancer, this means cancer physiology. High blood sugars have the following effects that aid cancer physiology:
Increase amount of energy source for cancer cells.
Increase insulin levels that stimulate cancer growth.
Elevate lactic acid levels that lower tumor pH.
Encourage anaerobic metabolism.
Increase protein kinase C, which increases cancer risk.
Increase prostaglandin E-2 levels, increasing platelet stickiness.
Lower immunity.
You Can Feel Great, And The Cancer Still Grows
The person who stops sugar and grains and eats more vegetables, drinks juices, and takes herbs is going to feel better. While the person feels better, the cancer can be growing and infiltrating more organs. A healthy diet and proper nutritional supplements help the body organs function better but do not in any way make the immune system destroy cancer cells. On the contrary, the various vitamins and nutrients that a person is taking to be healthy could, in fact, be feeding the cancer. It is only by appropriate objective monitoring that a person would know if his or her particular cancer was arresting (stop growing) or going into remission (shrinking).
Remember the old grapefruit diet?
It seemed too good to be true. Eat a grapefruit, and you would lose weight. Some folks swore by it even though science couldn't prove it worked. Turns out, it does!
New research from the Scripps Clinic in San Diego, Calif., suggests that eating grapefruit really does help people lose weight. But even more important is this groundbreaking conclusion: Grapefruit can help reduce the risk of diabetes by lowering insulin levels.
Interestingly, it's all related. While this is the first study to find a link between grapefruit consumption and reduced insulin levels, the researchers speculate that weight loss and lower insulin levels are connected, reports CBS HealthWatch.
The study: Obese patients at the Scripps Clinic were divided into two groups. For 12 weeks, one group ate either half a grapefruit or drank a glass of grapefruit juice with each meal. The other group was given a placebo sugar pill. This was the only change in their diet. Everyone ate the foods they usually ate. There was minimal exercise that all participants followed.
The results: Those who ate fresh grapefruit lost on average 3.6 pounds over the 12-week period, while those drinking grapefruit juice typically lost 3 pounds. However, some participants lost as much as 10 pounds. Those who took the placebo sugar pill lost on average a half-pound. But the grapefruit-eaters also had lower levels of insulin, which is the hormone that allows the body to metabolize sugars. Their glucose levels were also lower, which suggests a more efficient sugar metabolism. The researchers think the weight loss stems from the lower insulin level.
"The data we discovered in the study was very surprising. To see more weight loss with the grapefruit and nearly none in the placebo--in all honesty, I was very surprised," Dr. Ken Fujioka, lead researcher and director of the Scripps Metabolic Research Center, explained to CBS HealthWatch. "There might be something in grapefruit, particularly fresh grapefruit, that turns off the desire to eat more food."
The discovery is exciting since it could not only develop new weight loss techniques, but also pave the way for new treatments for diabetes.
Thanks for the link, LoDi...;)
I love garlic and onions, can't hardly eat without them...lol
There are odorless garlic supplements on the market you can use.
http://www.vitacost.com/products/brandsaz/kyolic.html
LoDi....just a few years ago when this area had a minor flu outbreak we spent the weekend with elderly family members whose house reeked of garlic. Turned out they had been chewing garlic cloves to ward off the flu.
We scoffed when it was offered to us....especially since we were all going to a big social event that evening.
Yep...you guessed it.....we got it. They didn't. Go figure.
why not just eat garlic?
Frontlines / Killing Tumors, One Clove at a Time
When David Mirelman went to China 15 years ago for a conference on amoebic dysentery, a Chinese physician, claiming he knew a cure, handed Mirelman a bottle of fermented garlic. Mirelman took the bottle back to the Weizmann Institute in Rehovot, Israel, where he began studying the biochemical basis of garlic's curative powers.
He quickly honed in on the protein allicin. When a cook crushes a garlic clove, the membranes of its cysts, which are filled with the protease alliinase, break. The alliinase mixes with the protein alliin, producing allicin--a protein that has virulent cytotoxic properties, as well as a very pungent smell.
To focus allicin's killing power on cancer, Mirelman conjugated alliinase to a monoclonal antibody that targets the tumor marker ErbB2. A follow-up dose of alliin created allicin primarily in cancer tumors, and tumor growth stopped completely after 12 days.1 "It's like transforming a monoclonal antibody from a grenade that has limited effectiveness into a machine gun that can be constantly reloaded," says Mirelman.
He suggests that the technology could make preexisting monoclonal antibodies, such as Rituxan and Herceptin, more lethal tumor killers. University of Alberta pharmacologist Terry Allen is intrigued by Mirelman's paper, but is concerned that the human immune system might mount a response to the alliinase. Mirelman agrees, and plans to test that hypothesis in higher animals.

DETOXIFICATION
Detoxification is a process whereby we increase the body’s ability to eliminate waste materials. Detoxification is an area of extreme importance to our health and is often overlooked by traditional medicine!
Here are some basic principles to follow:
Drink Enough Water:
Increase water consumption so that you can increase urinary output.
Water helps the body to cleanse and dilute impurities, balance pH, and provide a healthy flow of nutrients into cells and toxins out of cells. Tap water is filled with impurities and chemicals that should be avoided. We recommend that you purchase a good water filtration system for your home and start drinking the water! Most of us are walking around dehydrated. We need water! Drink up!
Avoid Food Additives!
Have you ever looked at the label on a food package and were unable to pronounce anything that was on the label? Foods, and even vitamins, are loaded with chemicals, dyes, and other unnatural substances. Be careful what you put into your mouth. Read before you eat.
Some of the most common food additives to avoid are the following:
• Aspartame
• Bromated Vegetable Oil: emulsifier in foods and clouding agent in soft drinks
• Citrus Red Dye No. 2: used to color orange skins
• Monosodium Glutamate: flavor enhancer used in fast, processed, or packaged foods
• Nitrites: used as preservatives in cured meats to prevent spoilage
• Sulfur Dioxide, Sodium Bisulfite, Sulfites: preserves dried fruits, shrimp, frozen potatoes; commonly used on salad bar foods
• Tertiary Butylhydroquinone: used to spray the inside of cereal and cheese packages
• Yellow Dye No. 6: used in candy and carbonated beverages as a coloring.
Have Regular Bowel Movements Every Day
Improve fiber intake until feces are soft in consistency and regular in frequency. This does not mean having a bowel movement every other day or every third day. It is ideal to have a bowel movement a few hours after every meal.
Fix Digestive Problems
Such as the need for digestive enzymes or hydrochloric acid to help with assimilation of food. The typical American diet is low in fiber, loaded with poisons, and devoid of natural enzymes.
Foods that Promote Detoxification
The process by which the body removes these harmful substances from the body is called detoxification. It generally involves the removal of the chemical substances via the bowels and urine. The primary organs used for detoxification are the liver, kidney, and skin. Foods and liquids that promote good defecation and urinary excretion are emphasized in the Hauser Diet.
• High fiber foods, especially fresh vegetables and fruits
• Whole grains
• Water: purified, not tap water
• Teas such as catechin, barberry, yarrow flower, milk thistle
• Yogurt with live cultures (if able to tolerate dairy foods)
• Onions
• Lecithin-containing foods such as soybeans and egg yolks
Eat Vegetables: Nature's Detoxifiers
Which vegetables do what and why!
Purple and Red Vegetables
Deeply pigmented plants have important anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties from substances in them including anthocyanidins. These are a type of complex flavonoid that produce blue, purple or red colors.
Orange, Yellow and Red-Orange Vegetables
Orange, yellow and red-orange foods are rich in carotenoids such as beta-carotene, lutein and lycopene. More than 600 carotenoids occur naturally, but carotenes are the most widely known. Carotenes, which destroy free radicals in lipids, enhance immune response and protect cells against UV radiation.
Green Vegetables
Green plants contain particularly large amounts of chlorophyll, which is a detoxifier. Foods rich in chlorophyll include chlorella and other blue-green algae, beet greens, bok choy, collards, dandelion greens, kale, mustard greens and nettles.
Another class of vegetables with potent detoxifying abilities are those of the crucifer family which includes broccoli, bok choy, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, mustard greens, radishes and turnips.

Wow, I thought pupik was a Polish dupa.
You Might Be Polish-American If...
You occasionally add the suffix "-ski" to English words,
for no apparent reason
(e.g., "I'm gonna go put the car-ski in the garage-ski")
You like to drink. Especially beer. Especially cheap beer.
You have a grandma who occasionally kills animals and uses
every single part of their carcasses to make sausages, soups,
dumplings, etc.
You like to put sour cream and horseradish on everything.
"healthy" is boiled pierogi, light beer, and filtered cigarettes.
You blame all the world's ills on Germans and Russians.
You frequently belch and pass gas without any shame.
You cross yourself whenever you are shocked or disgusted.
You know that "head cheese" isn't really cheese.
You like pickled pig's feet.
You typically insist on doing simple, routine tasks
in the most difficult, time-consuming manner possible.
And finally you have a potato-shaped face,
and a huge dupa if a woman.
:o)
Went to food store and buyed 4 pounds of bacon.
Its a start. Now I gotta buy a fry pan.
Also buyed four ½ gallons of ice cream for this weekend eats.
Actually just ate one.
"... be assured your pupik will never..."
I got a pupik?
It's above my feet.
ok
How about a clue.
What does it look like.
Does a woman have one, or more than one?
Does it make a noise?
Is it friendly?
Would another be scared to touch it?

Buck...We have a bumper crop of pecans this year. Gotta do something with them, no? Pecan pie? Pecan Delights? Pecan cookies?
Spiced pecans are tasty too and not as fattening. I've posted several different recipes on various boards...if you're interested I can post them here.
Hmmmm...where to start. ROFL Nothing like starting out the day with a laugh, Doug! Thanks!
Taking it from the top...
NO spaghetti and toss the peanut butter, milk (sorry), beans and nuts. As for cheese...check the labels for carbs. Mayo is fine. Get your weight down to where it's supposed to be and then start eating sensibly...in this way you can be assured your pupik will never meet your feet.
We have the best BBQ, that's a given but why have it shipped? Do your own...it's easy and fun. Cook up a bunch of stuff (chicken, ribs, steaks, sausage) while you're at it and freeze. Forget about the prepackaged dinners...they're loaded with sodium and other things not good for you.
Gee, do I hafta teach you bachelors how to do everything!?! ;)
but but but but but but but but but but but but but but but...
... "go on Atkins for a couple of weeks"
but but i read a few pages of the book in a bookstore,
and and meat is GREAT, very especially the FAT
as i luv to met meat's fat, like pork chops with about
two inches thick and three inches fat wide around
the middle of dry meat not really needed.
Gosh, i wonder if they sell pork chops without the meat
and just have that outer ring of fat in the container.
Spaghetti with a sauce loaded extra up with sausage.
Sausage & bacon frying sizzling in the fry pan.
But Atkins say no bread, no sugar
and and no milk
and no nuts
no potatoes
its true
as the amount allowed per day is close to zero = none = no
like one peanut will max you out
and i can eat one jar
want to anyway
oops, actually i do as that was another complete meal,
after the 2 pound of celery i eat a whole jar of nuts.
mmmmmmmmmmmmmm
guess i better come a little more clean
... i don't cook
boil water for coffee and cabbage
at most, very most, microwave a precooked frozen item
and,
did i mention shop for food?
probably not since i no do that
except pick up milk and cans of nuts and cabbage heads
and cans of beans...
... raw stuff, nope
but,
i'am thinking about maybe now with the internet you can
access lots of BBQ famous eat'n places in Texas etc
and maybe i could UPS get shipped lots of it already cooked.
Stock up about 3 months of fully cooked meat.
Then do Atkins.
Oops, i don't eat out.
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
I knew i was a little "off" with the food eating,
but its a little more than i realized :o)
ok, i'll have to think this out.
That Atkin's only really works if carb intake is near zero.
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
The smell of bacon and sausage frying has to be the eighth
wonder of the world.
mayo
is mayo ok?
i think so, it all fat
cheese i'am not sure about
butter is yes, but milk a no
its that sugar = carbs
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

now thats what i like

1 1/2 cup pecan halves

Recipe #2

1 cup brown sugar
1 large can evaporated milk
1/2 cup white corn syrup
1 pinch soda
4 cups pecans
Put all to boil to firm ball stage.
Remove from heat and add 1/2 stick of butter or oleo...and stir.
Drop with spoon on buttered wax paper.
(Makes prox 40 pieces)
Well, well...Doug, Interesting post, indeed! I believe I've understood most of it but please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. ;)
The only difference between us that I can see is I'm German instead of Polish and it was great-grandparents who came over on a boat. One set through Ellis Island the other through Canada to settle on the Northern Great Plains where they too worked the soil. And their wine was made from chokecherries, not grapes.
All were/are excellent cooks, btw...including me but I couldn't bake a cookie or a cake if my life depended on it.
Seems to me you're going to a lot of trouble and eating some real ...uh, how should I put this politely, Doug? Hmmm, can't think of a way... suffice it to say all you'd have to do, IMO... to keep that 5'7" frame lean and mean is to eat a very light breakfast or brunch and a well-balanced evening meal, very little sugar, no junk food and no beer.
Then if, and/or when you go on vacation...scarf down everything in sight and when you return go on Atkins for a couple of weeks and then return to normal routine. Simple as that! MDB (my dearly beloved aka hubby) has gained two inches in his waistline, only... in over 25 years of marriage by following my regime.
Of course, there is a natural growth in his ear lobes and the length of his nose, however, I'm sure you're aware this is a natural occurrence that happens to all of us as we get older.
Oh...check my next post for a great pecan praline recipe...eat them sparingly or pig out...it's your choice, my friend. After all, you gotta do some things once in awhile just because it's fun and it's great to be alive! ;)
Wow dude............
"Is one allowed to post ANY recipe here?"
Now you gone did and do'ed it :o)
ANY includes gotmilk's eat'n style to NOT enjoy eat'n
WHEN gotmilk loves eat'n more than Sheriff Matt
AND gotmilk can eat as much or more than the "old" Matt
ok, a little gotten history
- i'am from 100% Polish farmers
- all grandparents came over on a boat
- all worked hard and ate "hard"
- farm life included cows and growing animals & vetables
- farm eats were all home grown or farm raised
- every veg and every meat available
- 99% of every animal eat'n (1% = toe nails, eyeballs)
- everything made from scratch... bread, pies, cakes etc
- they even made their own wine from their grape vines
- hard cider from them apple trees
- beer they bought at store
- smoked them pigs
- aged them cows
- chicken feathers used for pillos and thick blankets
- rifles abounded for game animals... deers, wabbits etc
- always a few relatives being butchers by trade
me?
- increase my 5'7" one inch
- remove the hair from top of my head
- make me better looking by x10
and you got the external of BobZ
:o)
Now my Good News ='s my Bad News
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'am at my correct weight, and have no health reasons
to prevent me from being over, as those kinds of stuff
like blood & heart oops not in my Polish Tree.
(lots of over-drink'n to death, and mental illness)
BUT
Food and luv'n lots of it with abandonment,
ya'up everyone including me,
with my hic-up of having too much self-control
too much will-power
as,
my correct weight is my weight
or,
its SUCKs not to eat what and the amounts i want to :o(
and,
why o why i make myself suffer & unhappy food-wise
is to me having a "problem" i have been trying to overcome
and discard and get rid of for the last 35+ years.
so,
here are my "Is one allowed to post ANY recipe here?"
to not gain weight when the "call" of food is LOUD each day.
- eat ONLY once a day
- first intake is one of the following three :o( :o( :o(
- - three cans(15 oz each) of green beans
- - whole 3 pound head of boiled cabbage
- - whole head of celery
(with) lots of salt, and NO butter etc
now,
just so i take them vitamins & minerals pills
to give me 100% of needed per day
plus, i do drink ½ gallon lactose free fat free milk each day
now i eat one of the following as my "complete" dinner
- ½ gallon sugar free low fat ice cream
- big bag of chips
- extra big bag of cheese popcorn
- dozen low fat donuts or muffens
or using some tricks like,
take 6 regular whole wheat bagels,
slice off the bottom and scoop out all the inners,
with 6 yogurts,
put the contents of each yogurt into each emptied bagel,
with option first to coat the inners of each bagel with a
thick layer of reduced fat chocolate syrup.
Need to semi-freeze so yougurt don't drip out when eaten.
ok, drinks time when luv'n sugar
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
64 oz Ocean Spray Light Cran-Grape (aka 3/4 less...)
pour ½ into an empty container
fill each to top with zero calorie grape flavored water
Yes i do know, these sugar substitutes are:
- cancer causing agents
- toxins
- some able to cross into the brain tissue
Yes i do know that some low fat foods have ingredients
to give you a fat "mouth feel" but end up to give you that
stool very sloppy, like drinking hydrogenized mineral oil :o(
Now while my DNA prevents the above to cause my cells
to go into a state of displeasure, "don't try this at home
or eating out" because it SUCKs as a way to keep one's
weight at the level your belly area does not get a spare tire.
Once again, I have no idea why i do this.
But most likely a big factor is that I never got married,
especially to a woman that can both cook great and knows
about proper nourishments to keep her man healthy well
and wise like the wife of good doctor Zeev Hed does,
as she feeds him twigs, roots, mushrooms and other stuff
not found in mainstream fast food outlets, but you might
walk upon or over in the Amazon rain forest :o)
D:oug

I'll be back later with a great recipe for them...if allowed on this board as they are kinda laden with calories.
