How do you live your dash?

I read of a man who stood to speak
At the funeral of a friend
He referred to the dates on her tombstone
From the beginning... to the end.

He noted that first came her date of birth
And spoke the following date with tears,
But he said what mattered most of all
Was the dash between those years.

For that dash represents all the time
That she spent alive on earth...
And now only those who loved her
Know what that little line is worth.

For it matters not, how much we own;
The cars... the house... the cash,
What matters is how we live and love
And how we spend our dash.

So think about this long and hard...
Are there things you'd like to change?
For you never know how much time is left,
That can still be rearranged.

If we could just slow down enough
To consider what's true and real,
And always try to understand
The way other people feel.

And be less quick to anger,
And show appreciation more
And love the people in our lives
Like we've never loved before.
If we treat each other with respect,
And more often wear a smile...
Remembering that this special dash
Might only last a little while.

So, when your eulogy's being read
With your life's actions to rehash...
Would you be proud of the things they say
About how you spent your dash?

Natural Logistic Synergy

Focus on everything
And nothing all at once
Thoughts come to a point
And emplode at the joints
Bring it all in

Suck on the breast
Giving life to the young

Far away a stranger gazes
But he’s not a stranger at all
Just stranger than you think
Admiration and curiosity
Melted and pressed into sweet candy
Too sweet for most taste
Desire of a pure heart
To match his own
Eludes him like a missing sock
What a pair they’d make
A winning hand
A king to make his queen royally flushed
But the house always wins
And steals the love of a gambling heart
Who bets it all on that one last hand
He plays for keeps
And keeps on playing a sweet song
On deaf ears
Clogged with garbage of the world
And lies about what love should be

Sing song words
Slapped on the page
Like a second grade ballad
Devoid of all rage
Ryhymed all together
Like soap box ads
My poetry reeks
But is it that bad
No one post here
So why even bother
Naive orphans
Look for their fathers
These words are worthless
And most of all weak
These thoughts in my mind
And some I do speak
What was I thinking
Would someone listen
To comfortable pain
And unfullfilled missions
Potential only half way reached
Why can't I have the other half!
Is it me or is it you
He replaced life with math
Numbers stop the leak for now
They plug the hole in his heart
I grow a little harder every day
When did the finish become the start

He has EVERYTHING...

Except the one thing he has asked God for for years..........

Comfortable

I'm so comfortable
It makes me squirm
Self reliance
Takes a turn
My friend and enemy
One in the same
Comfort holds me
As my longing wanes
Its so hard
To pray to need
And lose control
With one plea
So simple
With fat stomachs
To eat and eat
Till the belly aches
Its hard to drive a Mercedes
Through the eye of a pin
Especially when you are carrying
All of that sin
Who will be brave enough
To pray for strife
And risk the diamonds
In their life?

i wasnt clever and i believed you when you called me an angel, oh the nonscense and then im standing outside the place we lived and the plants are the same and the rain is the same, drowing feels the same. drop back on your heels and speed down the pavements thats how i prefer it. another cigarette deserves another and my hands can smell the addiction in the skin. there have been so many conversations hidden in the streets of thomas and seventh and in between the gasstation and the second floor of an apartment i crawled too on my knees. ive never been clever with love, spoken out too soon or too late and there i am leading my hand back to my fingers oh the writing continues trying to raise the titanic up out and repair the giant holes god doesnt anyone know that i have spent my twenties down on my knees, crumbling from the feet and ankles and crashing shins to the sidewalk. i have waited for a phone call, i have waited for an answer, i have waited for the grass to grow up over me, there beneath your balcony where you are lying inside forever your intentions of living gone somewhere in the cables and chords out into space and then around the neighborhoods making all the dogs fling their voices out at the space shuttles. there are things i remember about your face that never seemed to seperate themselves in the changing god i wish i wish i wish i had a newspaper from the day you drove, top down, to the harbor to blow away my chance to be a pearl me staring up at windows and blue skies

On Top of a Mountain...

She climbed a mountain
To be closer to him.
Her screams seems to mutate
To whispers in wind.
Cinderella,
Without a glass slipper.
She'd rather wear shoes
That actually fit her.
She wonders if white knight
Is still yet to come,
Or if she passed him over
While she was too young.
She calls for a rider
To carry her pain,
Into the sunset,
And out of this rain.
Home is where the heart is,
And warmth beyond fire,
Memories merge into present
And future desires.

Divergent Paths


Two seperate traders,
Did go seperate ways,
They had some good times,
And money did make.
Each seperate trader,
Had his own style,
Proven and tested,
Both worked All the while.

With two seperate groups,
Plenty of good stocks
To feed all the troops.

One spiteful trader,
Born of the first,
Mindless and heartless,
His tongue bore a curse.
A duck who did follow
His mother around,
And quack when his brother
Was no where to be found.
One spiteful trader,
Decided that he,
Would send private messages
Slandering me.
How did he think
That I wouldn't hear,
Of all of the nasties
He whispered in ears?
Why did he do it?
Who cares just the same?
He works in the dark
To slander my name.
Will they believe him?
I'd surely say no,
For those who do know me,
See the light that I show.
A trader with heart,
Striving to be,
Sharks swim about,
Nipping at me.
Lord show them the truth,
Help them to see...

Love that poem - my thoughts exactly. I feel so lucky to be able to do the thing I love (trading) while my husband goes to work and pays the bills. The more I make the more I can help. Struggled a long time with whether it was ok to make money this way (gambling???), but I've decided if I can do some good with it, it's ok.

A scarlet letter
The world did give,

Meanwhile, my trusty Webster's tells me: Prose is the ordinary form of language, without rhyme or meter. How, then, am I to comply? It's true, I like to write in prose, but if my prose happens not to rhyme, I'll be a bad boy, all the time.

What's a feller to do?
How can I address you?
If I do so in prose
It's an offense to those
Who request that I rhyme
My comments sublime

Well, it can't be helped
Even if I am whelped
For all I can say
Is "I wish you a Good Day".
