i wasnt clever and i believed you when you called me an angel, oh the nonscense and then im standing outside the place we lived and the plants are the same and the rain is the same, drowing feels the same. drop back on your heels and speed down the pavements thats how i prefer it. another cigarette deserves another and my hands can smell the addiction in the skin. there have been so many conversations hidden in the streets of thomas and seventh and in between the gasstation and the second floor of an apartment i crawled too on my knees. ive never been clever with love, spoken out too soon or too late and there i am leading my hand back to my fingers oh the writing continues trying to raise the titanic up out and repair the giant holes god doesnt anyone know that i have spent my twenties down on my knees, crumbling from the feet and ankles and crashing shins to the sidewalk. i have waited for a phone call, i have waited for an answer, i have waited for the grass to grow up over me, there beneath your balcony where you are lying inside forever your intentions of living gone somewhere in the cables and chords out into space and then around the neighborhoods making all the dogs fling their voices out at the space shuttles. there are things i remember about your face that never seemed to seperate themselves in the changing god i wish i wish i wish i had a newspaper from the day you drove, top down, to the harbor to blow away my chance to be a pearl me staring up at windows and blue skies
