GW-man, you raise some very interesting points. I'd say your speculation regarding the Scat-IR-Shield (SIRS) as a follow-on contract to the earlier Stlth Cat sale is correct, and I'd also wonder why there was no mention of the RefractX product in connection with the $7.4M SIRS sale. Did it not include the RefractX product? Perhaps there are some applications where the RefractX is unnecessary or redundant. I would think the greatest applicability of the RefractX is as a generic wrap for diesel particulate filters in order to help them retain heat to imrove their performance during erratic engine duty cycles (like in urban environments). Combining the ReftactX with the TempMax would help optimize diesel particulate filter operation and would extend the applicability of Englehard's or Johnson Matthey's products.
Regarding the expenses of the various military tech products, aluminum as a commodity goes for about a dollar a pound (I assume that means smelter-grade aluminum), and I can't imagine aircraft-grade aluminum being vastly more expensive, but maybe it is. I don't know, but there doesn't appear to be a vast quantity of it in use on the Scat-IR-Shield, so that product must have a lot of other very cutting-edge materials to justify the price. I just hope ESW is good at protecting its intellectual property on it.
Pennsylvania Testing Facility
What I have wondered about for sometime was the potential for the trsting facility to ever become a significant revenue stream itself? While I understand it is an important piece of the company for designing and testing our products, it would be nice to see it earn more money.
Obviously, it does not have to is our products continue to be accepted, it just would be nice to have that additional revenue cushion for a given quarter.
Corky, did not know you retired from auto industry. Not surprising given some of your posts and references.
I am just a environmental toxicologist who changes his own oil sometime and watches public policy (and political greed). So I definitely am the pupil here when it comes to the industry and am thankful you are around
I agree, we certainly are not a one pruduct company. I have enjoyed reading about proprietary materials and the dynamic, multi-layer, multi-purpose-driven design of the military products.
I am hoping that while I anxiously wait to see what we can do on the military front, I get massively surprised by an announcement for a long-term contract for Germany, Korea or a mining company
We are not a one product company, we have about ten products and management is moving these products out of R&D into the marketplace that needs them.
As I have said before I retired from the auto industry and I understand that products of this kind takes time being excepted into the industry, these are major and costly changes to engine design.
Thanks for the info Corky. I am certainly still learning some of the details of the industry and your posts help.
I guess some of my underwhelmness of the TempMax was the fact that the contract was for 15 - 18 months and only worth $1.22 Million. Obviously, that type of demand will not be significant. I hope ESWW can have $15 Million in revenue in 2008 and if they were only to renew the current TempMax contract for 2008 that would be less than 10% of the revenue. With that said, I do find it interesting that demand for the TempMax has been excellent. That is good to hear!
And I admit, I certainly do not have any grasp of what the demand could be, it just feels like some of our other products have a much better potential to seriously impact our revenue) But, it is fine with me if TempMax does so also)
Let me give you that link again:o)

If you have been looking at the other technologies, they all need to retain as much heat from the engine as possible in order for the catalyst to work properly. A great deal of heat is lost before the emissions even reach the emission control device, it can be as much as 100 degrees lost. You need to take another look at some of the other technologies and how they work:o)
"This new line has the potential to become a leading product in the industry by enabling the highest performing diesel catalyst technology available to be applied to an engine. The demand for the TempMax(TM) has been excellent and we are currently in the process of broadening the demographic to fit other engine and vehicle applications for both on and off-road markets."
From MECA:
"Since the volume of particulate matter generated by a diesel engine is sufficient to fill up and plug a reasonably sized filter over time, some means of disposing of this trapped particulate must be provided. One means of disposal is to burn or oxidize the particulate in the filter, thus regenerating, or cleansing, the filter. This is accomplished through the use of a catalyst placed either in front of the filter or applied directly on the filter, a fuel-borne catalyst, or burners which are used to oxidize or combust the collected particulate."
http://www.meca.org/page.ww?name=Publications§ion=Resources
TempMax
The Tempmax has never grabbed me much. First, it is not a high-priced item. Second, it seemed like generic tubing for the most part that helps deliver more heat to the catalytic device. But, after looking at it again, it seems safe to conclude that the material and characteristics of the TempMax had lead to the development of the RefractEx and/or the Scat IR Shield.
One more intruging observation. I just picked up on the fact that the TempMax was one of the products specifically mentioned as being showcased at the Nov 2006 military conference for US and NATO forces. Why showcase the TempMax there? Is it as simple as them trying to break into the diesel truck militsry market? Does any military, US or NATO, really look to reduce emissions, other tha signture related stuff, from their trucks? Adding to my wondering is the fact that the military conference was for LAVs/Strykers not the broader military truck industry. Also, note that the TempMax is not listed on the ESW military web site.
On the non-military front, it will be interesting to see if there is a new contract for the TempMax toward the end of the year for 2008.
Seling Military components Separately
Two thoughts in my brain this monring.
Regarding the RefractEx: If it is automatically sold as part of the Stlth Cat, why break it out separately on the militaty web site? Is it for marketing purposes and a way to help justify the cost of the Stlth Cat or does it have applicability as a separate product? From the web page it seems to clearly have stand-alone benefits, such as casing to protect sensitive equipment from heat, reducing the chances of burns or excessive heat exposure for personnel, etc. Assuming there is actual interest in the product alone, this certainly could be one of the "exciting projects being worked on with the US Military.
Regarding the Scat-IR Shield: I find it very interesting that this piece of the unit is so much more expensive than the Stlth Cat. Mix this with the fact that it can be made to cover any hear producing system, theoretically its applicability could go way past the muffler/catalytic coverter. I was walking back from cover and wondering what would stop the Scat being used as a replacement hood on a jeep or supply truck to reduce the signautre coming from the engine? Maybe the aluminum material would be too weak to be a hood in this hypothetical example, but I do not see why hoods would need to hold much weight. If so, you could even argue it would add to fuel efficiency, assuming it would be lighter than a steel hood.
Maybe the IR-Shield only reduces the signature by 5% if not combined with the Stlth and the RefractEx and, in turn, would not be marketable by itself. But, I would think, since the Scat-IR Shield is the highest priced component of the system, ESW is thinking hard about applications for the Scat-IR component as a stand-alone product.
Military Contracts to Date
I have not yet gone back to look at the 10Q for anymore hints, but I was wondering whether we think the $7.4 Million IR Shield contract was connected to the 2.8 Million contract for the Stlth Cat? In otherwords, should we assume that the 1000 IR Shields were specifically bought by the Marines to cover the previously purchased Stith Cats?
If so, this would mean that the entire system would have a selling price of 9-10K, with one caveat. The RefractEx slip cover was not specifically mentioned in the Stlth Cat contract. We can probably assume this ws included as part of the production of the Stlth Cat, but I am not positive. If it was then the 9-10K price for the entire system is accurate. If it wasn't then obviously this working figure is a bit low.
Alright, picked up another 4600 shares!
Getting ready to rock and roll!
Are you suggesting little ole me may not get filled?? Those MMs and institutions don't make sure we small peeps are filled first?)))
As of 12:44, the market maker "ABLE" (Natexis Bleichroeder Inc.) is now competing with you at a 70 bid. They handle institutional clients.
Put in bid for 4500 shares at $0.70. I bet the MMS do not give it to me! We shall see!
"Ask the White House":o)
In addition to working on this new consensus, EPA has been collaborating throughout the Asia-Pacific region to promote energy security, reduce pollution and address the long-term challenge of global climate change. For example, through EPA’s Asia Pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate, we are developing and deploying new technologies and voluntary approaches to help our international neighbors responsibly grow their economies.

A few thoughts
(A) I've suspected they've reacted to our posts for years. Just recently for example, I noticed after the post on yahoo why 64 should be the bottom that the market makers IMMEDIATELY firmed up the bid up from 61 to 64 after comparing time stamps on trades and how the bids moved.
(B) I do not trust the "official" posted short interest data for this stock, and the reason is because only the "legitimate" short interest shows up there. That means trades that were settled through the DTCC (and likely involved the DTCC's stock borrow program). The short interest would not include all the previously "grandfathered" short sales that MMs and shorters have parked in overseas accounts and it would not include trades that are settled inter-MM without involving the DTCC directly, in my opinion. On the other hand, I have also been told that all trades posted on the OTC require broker reporting, and that this reporting mechanism is how the system gains a "net" (aggregate) short interest picture, so in theory this should capture any trades of the "grandfathered" naked short sales, but I have my suspicions about that as well. In the meantime, market makers and shorters can also hold an inventory of legitimate shares that they can use to trade back and forth without increasing the overall short position but which can be used to manipulate the share price in the absence of any real buying pressure.
Yes I saw that!eom
Yes I noticed. Appears "they" cannot get the sells they want at 0.65 but clearly do not want any buying, given the 6 cent spread on an ugly day)
And I think they are reading our posts, as they almost immediately changed the spread from 1 cent to 7 or 8 cents yesterday or the day before immediately after our conversation!!)
gwman have you notice the bid today is .66, they are reading our posts:o)I think!

Reading Short Interest
twlack, this link may also be of help to you.
corky
A large increase or decrease in a stock's short interest from the previous month can be a very telling indicator of investor sentiment. Let's say that Microsoft's (MSFT) short interest increased by 10% in one month. This means that there was a 10% increase in the amount of people who believe the stock will decrease. Such a significant shift provides good cause for us to find out more. We would need to check the current research and any recent news reports to see what is happening with the company and why more investors are selling its stock.

short history?
corkypue -- Good to know thats there since Yahoo doesn't find ESWW to be worth a Key Statistics page.
Is there any way to see a history of short interest? It would be very interesting to see how that has changed over time.
twlack:o)this is where I found a number for the short interest
corky
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/quote?ticker=esww
Yes, thats what I feel is happening.
I do know that ESWW has had a problem with short sellers. Back a few years, if my recollection is correct, I think they actually took the stock off one of the exchanges (Germany I think). Apparently thats where all the short selling and manipulating was happening.
But now that we have a profitable quarter under our belt and a promising outlook for many more to come we should lose the short selling pressure and we can start a nice steady climb to where we should be. Maybe even a momentum move beyond that.
When we get up in the range of $1.50 I'm going to take some profits and have solar panels installed on my home. Enough so the power company will owe me money every month!!!
But now I see we're back at a .65/.72 B/A and we've about reached our average daily volume. Go figure.
I am no trader either and my interpretations of spreads are guesses. To me there have been days recently where it was very clear that a 5-10 spread was intentional and even imposed when there was some volume. Zto me I read that as they was to stop the buying. Logically, who would buy at 75 cents if they know those selling can only get 65 cents? One would think that the ask will come down.
So, this tight spread, in my limited understanding tells me we have leveled out and that the interest in pushing it down farther had dissipated. And, now, we are testing the waters to see if there there is some buying interest.
Is that how you are reading it??
Bid and Ask .005 apart
The b/a has been at .645/.65 since yesterday afternoon. In the 3-4 years I've followed this stock I don't think I've ever seen it that close for more than a half hour or so. And all the trades today (25,700 so far, average vol is 33, 105) are at .65
Even though that price is ridiculously low I like the behavior. But I'm no expert trader, anybody else have any comments about this kind of action?
I'm holding more shares than I've ever held in a single stock in my life and I'm on the edge of my seat watching this!
Nice goin twlack, I don't think I've ever had a fill of a limit order for less than I put it in for. Also looks like you you got it at the low for today (half hour remaining).
On sale today.
Put in a limit buy for .65 at Etrade and got it for .61
Nice find! I'd bet ESW is implicitly mentioned as part of the Keynote address (under LAV furture upgrades/programs)
ESW is so far not listed on the TACOM contract awards page for the Marine Personnel Carrier program (bummer).
6th Annual LAV and Stryker Summit
http://www.iqpc.com/cgi-bin/templates/singlecell.html?topic=495&event=14098
It will be interesting to see if ESWW will be presenting this year. One has to think it is likely.
Also, since the LAV and Stryker is a combined summit, one has to think that one of the yet-to-be-announced projects ESWW is working on with the US Military is for a Stryker application.
GWMAN:o)it is my opinion that it will take at least two more quarters maybe three of equal or increasing sales and revenue before the company is able to break the hold of the naked shorters on our share price.
We still have to prove to the investing public (and we will) that we can preform as a on going concern, as you pointed out on the yhaoo board.
From all that I can find out about the different technologies, our substrate is the must flexible and the most durable of the new emission control technologies, and it is being set up for wide distribution.
Myself and some of the other longs have been following this company and the global warming story sence around 1999-2000 feeding each other information. We knew it would take five years just to get the engine makers to test and except our products, then five more years for marketing and distribution. We are ahead of schedule in my opinion. And management is doing a great job of steering this young company through this maze. Getting this technology in front of the right people.

ESWW has mentioned a goal of getting on the American Stock Exchange.
Heere is the link to the requirements.
http://www.venturelawcorp.com/listing_requirements_amex.html
Rock we shall, sooner or later. In the meantime the shorters will likely pound this lower and lower trying to create a phony "death cross" or whatever it's called when that 50-day crosses below the 200-day moving average. But it sure don't look like there are many hyperkinetic traders holding this stock.
Shorty couldn't get longs to reach their "puke point' by manipulating this lower before, what makes them think thay can do so now, just when ESW is turning the "major" (ha-ha) corner?
Everyone else I know is holding for the long run, maybe even buying more at these "cheap" (?) levels. I'll probably buy more too.
What is going on with NATO?
We know that last December ESW presented at a military conference showing the work they were doing for the Marines, which are now on the new web site. At that time several NATO entities showed strong interest in the product, a suggested by a quote from the CEO in a PR.
Now consider this paragraph in the shareholder letter:
"I am also very pleased to announce that we have launched our new website showcasing our military portfolio of products and services. This comprehensive website will present the new technologies that we are currently working on for NATO Military groups."
Maybe it is just a case of sloppy writing, but I find it interesting that the future tense (website WILL present) is used for the new technologies ESW is currently working on for NATO Military groups. I have been assuming that we would get a NATO contract fairly soon and that it would be for the StlthCat and/or IRShield, just reconfigured a bit to fit their specific LAV. But combine the future tense and the mention of "new technologies" I am starting to wonder if there is something more going on regarding designing products for one or more NATO entities than only selling what we have built for the Marines.
Medium and Interim Armored Vehicles
Here is a starting place for the next tier of armored vehicles above the Light Armored Vehicles that are the current focus of the new military division web site.
http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ground/mav.htm
While finding things on the web highlighting the exhaust system of military vehicles is not easy, just by looking at these different classes of vehicles one can see the broad applicability for the ESW products.
Modeling of Tank IR Signature
http://www.ensight.com/images/stories/application_stories/thermo.pdf
Military Utility Vehicles & Tanks
Found this page that shows some of the utility vehicles the U.S. Military has in its utility fleet.
http://tech.military.com/equipment/subcategory/3/5/ground-vehicles/utility-vehicles.html
Given that the letter to shareholders indicated they were working "very closely on a number of very exciting projects with the U.S. Military," it suggests to me that ESW is working on designing similar packages for other families of utility vehicles within the U.S. Military (and likely not just Marines).
Besides the utility vehicles, clearly one would have to also start wondering about the current exhaust system for our current tank fleet and whether any improvement to sound, signature and exhaust footprint is also within our capability.
Yes Fly, I deem you the winner! Certainly appears that they were holding off for a few days to get the military web site functional. I like that.
I thought the May letter was more just a rehash of the first quarter PR and I thought, as a letter to shareholders, it should have a sprig of news and be a bit more personable. I think this new letter acheives that.
Rock On!
Sounds like "C)" to me!
That is, if you consider what is stated in the letter in addition to the information in the 10-Q a form of PR.
August 14th, 2007 (Shareholder Letter on cleanerfuture.com)
Dear Shareholder:
I am very pleased to announce this quarter’s result which has yielded the first profit in the Company’s history. At the end of the quarter in March of 2007, ESW’s management team was charged with the mandate to meet both sales and profit margins in the second quarter. Each department responded to the challenge with determined enthusiasm. The net result of these efforts has taken our Company from what we believe was a good first quarter, to what we believe was an excellent second quarter. What you, the shareholders, are witnessing is the culmination of efforts from a determined management team driving a solid foundation and infrastructure which has been built over the past years. Moving forward, our team efforts will intensify as we bring to fruition the many opportunities that continue to present themselves into our model.
We are currently working very closely with the US Military on a number of very exciting projects which we hope to announce in the near future. We also continue to demonstrate our product lines with our partners and distributors in a number of very important on-road and off-road programs. It is our belief that these programs will have very positive impact on the bottom line as we move forward. 2007 annual sales are still on target to reach a minimum of $9 million, not including the multitude of potential opportunities currently in process.
I am also very pleased to announce that we have launched our new website showcasing our military portfolio of products and services. This comprehensive website will present the new technologies that we are currently working on for NATO Military groups. As well, the site will also serve to provide the community with information on the Company’s news and relationships as they develop.

Look for the quarterly investor update on the ESWW web site next week.
Maybe we will get lucky and the answer will be C! But, even if it is a non-event, it will be nice to have it posted. I am a strong believer that any entity with shareholders or stakeholders need to be consistent and timely.
Peace
"I'll be back." And a Big Hello to PappaJohn!
Thanks for stopping by! C'mon back now ya here!
I think there is much to talk about with regard to ESWW and the environmental changes afoot. And, hopefully, there will be much news to dissect in the year ahead
I am hoping for C as well!
Excellent work to revise this board, GWMAN, thanks!
I vote for C) !
I vote for 3.6 mill for Q-3 and 12-14 mill by end of year.
I vote for 20 mill next year.
Nuance question of the day:
ESWW still has not posted its letter to shareholders for the most recent quarter report, while the previous one was posted the same day as the quarterly being releaased. So, what is the explanation?
A) A simple PR office oversight?
B) The web master is on vacation?
C) They want to include information in it regarding some news that has not been publicly released yet, so they are waiting to update the page until the information is released?
D) They have some type of bad news and are focusing on that issue so the quarterly update letter has been overtaken by events?
I am leaning toward B, but ya never know
ESWW's Irons in the Fire for Newbies
1. Working with GE on a locomotive project in Canada
2. Working with International Truck on multiple potential products, suggesting TempMax will not be the only product in the collaborative effort.
3. ESWW has a partner in Germany, Germany starting a government supported retrofit this year and product approved for the MOG utility vehicle.
4. Retrofit emissions product approved in Korea and Korea starting a government supported retrofit program this year.
5. Particulate Reactor being tested in China by EPA on 20 buses and from what I have learned it appears it was included in a follow-up study on 100 buses by Bejing Enviro Agency separately.
6. One of the world's largest emissions control producers was testing ESWW's substrate or catalyst (cannot remember which off the top of my head) as a direct replacement for a Corning product.
7. Particulate Reactor re-approved by CARB for off-road construction for the next 18 months and have a distribution agreement in place with Recat.
8. Two mining products that are MSHA approved and being used in American mines, which will likely only get more attention as general mine safety is a growing problem under the Bush administration.
9. It is quite conceivable that ESWW is marketing mining products in China, though I have no evidence of that.
10. Received grant for further field work on a locomotive/marine engine emissions reduction advice with the potential to be used for 1000 sources just in the Houston area.
11. Opportunity for sales in India, noting the parent company of International Truck has a company selling utility trucks and other vehicles in India, and ESWW CEO noted the opportunity for a 100,000 unit sale in India during the February 2007 Equities Conference.
12. ESWW has strong name in retrofit capability for small utility engine, having worked with EPA on showing future regulations on emissions from such things as lawn mowers could be effectively and safely applied.
Of course, there is Asia too.
On the February 2007 WallSt.net interview, remember Johnson mentioned that A) ESW product was verified in Korea, (also remember Korea has a government-sponsored retrofit program starting this year), B) ESW was working with the government from India, and C) ESW was working in China (that is the EPA-sponsored project, which was to be completed by this summer).
So, our first big contract outside the North America could also come from Asia.
When Europe or Asia comes through with just one multi-million dollar contract or partnership, we obtain our 1 handle.
Our Next Big Contract? Europe?
Well, having picked up a bit more today, I have been refreshing my brain with some of ESWW PR from the last 6 months.
While it is possible the Q2 report on Aug 15 could put up to a buck, I am not sure that will be enough unless we get another decent contract announcement that can contribute to Q3 revenue, which means it has to come fairly soon.
So, I started to wonder where might our next big contract come from, particularly one that would put us above a buck permanently. My answer is Europe, most likely Germany.
Consider a subtle quote from the CEO in the announcement of the listing ESWW on the Frankfurt Exchange:
David J. Johnson, ESW's President and CEO commented, “The listing on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange is another milestone in our growth strategy. We chose to list the Company’s common stock on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange as a result of a growing interest from European investors coinciding with our increasing product sales into this new market. This new listing will make ESW more visible and accessible to new and existing shareholders and may enable the Company to attract European institutional funds to trade the Company's common stock in Euros.”
Note the statement "coinciding with our increasing product sales into this new market". This could be referencing Germany specifically, or Europe as a whole.
Do we get a contract from the government-supported aftermarket retrofit starting this year in Germany?
Might we get our first contract from a NATO Army?
I have no inside knowledge at all and this is a complete guess. But in my mind we have another contract announcement coming sometime before September 1. And given we have been laying seeds in Europe for a few years and we have not had a significant contract from there yet, I think the next contract or major partnership is going to be from Europe and, most likely Germany, since our product was verified there 6 months ago or longer. And I think it is coming soon.
Hello to any who post here!!
Just found this board. Glad to know you exist.
It has been over two months since any news. I am expecting something soon, as ESWW has never gone 3 months in a row without useful news, at least over the several years of archived news releases on the compnay web site.
Will post two of my recent posts from Yahoo just to see if anyone who checks in here has any opinions.
Peace

Significant and Growing Partnerships
ESWW has been showing slow but consistent signs that the company is very capable of growing strong partnerships, which should lead to significant growth. Three examples are worth highlighting.
GE Canada: In early 2007, the CEO made a brief reference to work with GE in Canada. While it is not clear when this collaboration started, it was nice to see this effort has taken the next step, as announced November 9. http://www.cleanerfuture.com/pressrelease.php?date=20071109101644
This funded demonstration project is a key step in the process of moving from basic and applied research to commercialization, market development and market entry. The entity providing the funding, SDTC, has an educational presentation about this pre-commercialization funding they provide. It is worth checking out http://www.sdtc.ca/en/news/SDTC_Overview.pdf. Given that the exhaust from locomotive and marine diesel engines will likely be regulated in the next several years, this demonstration project with GE Canada could get valuable press coverage in the year ahead.
International: ESWW signed a Memorandum of Understanding with International in February, 2006. http://www.cleanerfuture.com/pressrelease.php?date=20060214114916
This evolved over the subsequent 22 months with several steps, including the unveiling of TempMax Exhaust Tube in April 2006 http://www.cleanerfuture.com/pressrelease.php?date=20060405163629, and a subsequent order for TempMax by International's kitting and distribution partner in September 2006 http://www.cleanerfuture.com/pressrelease.php?date=20060906092901. Throughout this time, it was known that ESWW was working with International's Green Diesel Technology group on other potential products and encountering other opportunities through this relationship (see TACOM below). This continued partnership most recently culminated in the signing of a Emissions Control and Technologies Provider and Cooperation Agreement on November 8, 2007 http://www.cleanerfuture.com/pressrelease.php?date=20071108093000.
TACOM: This acronym stands for the U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armament Command. The first evidence of this partnership came in August 2006, when ESW obtained a $2.8 million contract (thanks to International Military and Government LLC) to provide the Stlth Cat catalyst/muffler http://www.cleanerfuture.com/pressrelease.php?date=20060801130854. Following this successful sale, evidence surfaced that other work was ongoing, as ESWW presented two of its products at the 5th Annual Light Armored Vehicle and Stryker Conference in November 2006 http://www.cleanerfuture.com/media_vssummit.htm. In 2007, this growing relationship resulted in a $7.4 million contract in March for the proprietary Scat-IR Shield http://www.cleanerfuture.com/pressrelease.php?date=20070321110224. ESWW is still working on its military products line, noting that ESWW attended the latest Light Armored Vehicle and Stryker Conference last October.
Bucyrus: The most recent relationship extablished is with this major, global mining company. As stated in the last shareholder letter in October and in the most recent 10-K, ESWW's M-Cat Permissible has been approved by the U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) and is currently being used in a Bucyrus Power Pac assembly. It is likely that the Power Package approval (#3) awarded to Bucyrus by MSHA in September is the product containing ESWW's Permissible Cat http://www.msha.gov/techsupp/acc/lists/monthly/2008/september2008.pdf.
