Ok', let's DO just that!
Is RB working...can't even read messages this AM
Matt!
GOOD LUCK!
It seems that RB is essentially DEAD!
Not only did the poster known as ROBIN_S_Messing have difficulties getting a post to "take" on RB, so did I ...for over an hour now!
My suggestion to you? Offer them $1.50 for the whole service! If they counter offer for $2.00, ok, take it....but take it BEGRUDGINGLY!
This whole concept of the SUGG Board on RB has been a very pathetic attempt on RB's part. They've gone through WHAT?....2....or 3? SUGG ADMINS in like four months????
And they seem to still have these interestingly recurring server problems that do NOT allow posts to post. DUH!
Even Bob Z would chime in a holy "BULLCHIT" on this one! LOL!
Scary as it may seem, I have to wonder if RB has some people there that are now simply USING the RB Message Board system to their own PERSONAL ADVANTAGES!
I sometimes have a BLIND EYE!, but I am not stupid! The lame attempts on the SUGG Board of RB do NOT impress me at all. And then there are the problems of posting multiple messages that never seem to make it LIVE on their site anymore!
Raging Bull.................CHIT????
edit: I had to post some multiple edits here! I hope Matt rereads this!
Look on the bright side. At least somebody is paying attention over there.
Looks like RB might get slapped with the infamous censorship discussion. I'll make my way over there to offer my consultation services on the subject.
Let's bring this board back to life!
I am currently involved in a deep discussion over on Raging Bull that shows how ignorant Raging Bull still is in their Administration of that website!
Granted there no longer is a Battle of The Boards between SI and IHUB, since the two of them are "one" now, LOL, but I think that we should continue to post at this point about how ignorant and arrogant Raging Bull is in it's policies as well as it's ability to interact with it's users!
Here is a post from the Raging Bull Suggestion Board posted very recently that defines how futile it is for any poster on RB to try to challenge the restoration of a post or posts that had been deleted by Raging Bull.
Hello? Is anyone home at Raging Bull anymore at ALL?

Hello Bernard
I am new in this board, but I have read attentively the messages of the previous month referred to Sega version 1991.
I thank you if you can count me your esperiencia and which was the best metodo applied to try to win but or at least not to lose so much.
One of the machines Sega is version 1991. In her I have seen to pay prizes of 900,800, 700 dolares and is a machines where can be played to 50 dolares.
Greetings

HAHAHAHA, this is one of the best boards I have read since I got back. This is hilarious!
hollen,
You are the biggest whining crybaby I have ever encountered on the internet.
And at times, attempted to be a bully.
But, always an asshole.
I will refund any money you paid to Bob or Matt if you will promise to leave and not come back.
Have fun,
Phil
My whole point is that the rules of the contest did not change. Administrative policy changed, which can change the scores for future referrals, but that change applies to everybody, so it's a wash.
Bob....
You were right!
You need to get rid of the RED FONT for the EDIT LINK!
OT! Using this post to see what the new link Bob mentioned about the EDIT board looks like in red ink on my settings!
Bob,
You know that we are only "splitting hairs" here at this point.
Do the math.
There isn't much time left to discern the Top Ten in the contest after all.
I'd suspect that whether the rule change took effect yesterday or not, that the results would end up the same.
My last comment on this whole issue is that it is not good to change the rules of a contest this late in the contest. As you can see, it only created animosity for some.
take the time sign up, and then fail to be APPROVED because you were a little 'shy' or didn't have time to stay and post.....
Fine. You win. If the semantics are what's bothering you (hard to say since you won't be honest about what's bothering you), you should be very happy now. Go check your MDC list.
Everybody who joins, whether prolific in-depth analysis poster or garden variety spammer is now "APPROVED" since that's the word you keep capitalizing as if it's the real issue for you.
And any member you had join after yesterday will count as one point until they post and get approved. The same applies to everyone. The change is tied to a date; not to any particular contestant.
Bob,
This doesn't appear entirely true to me.
We didn't change the MDC rules mid-stream.
I had members assigned TWO POINTS for the MDC although they had not, and as yet, HAVE not posted on IHUB!
We changed an admin policy.
The change in admin policy has nothing at all to do with the MDC!
I refuse to change MDC rules mid-stream.
Hence, the dilemma!
No.
Matt was simply getting overwhelmed with new accounts to approve, MDC or not.
The 3-post limit is a sort of vetting process. We will not automatically upgrade accounts to 18 posts per day. We're having enough problems with spammers with the 3-post limit. Have to wonder if his motivation isn't that a board he was using got spammed by "us".
And, don't forget that new members staying at that level longer doesn't unfairly punish any one MDC participant. The impact is felt by all participants equally.
If two members each referred 150 new people, and their first 100 got immediately approval for 18 posts but the last 50 didn't, they both still end up with 250 points.
We didn't change the MDC rules mid-stream. We changed an admin policy. I refuse to change MDC rules mid-stream. If I did, some of the folks in it wouldn't be, because the first rule change I'd have made would've been "Don't spam other sites with that link."
One is pleased to be of service.

Bob and Matt, FWIW!....
I've followed the whole discussion between Bob and jmhollen.
From this perspective, jmhollen isn't trying to challenge whether a member is allowed to post 3 times a day, or 18 times a day, or a MILLION times a day.
To me, he is trying to explain that regardless of why it happened, the rules of the MDC seemed to change midstream. And I agree that both you and Matt truly have recognized that the MDC contest has NOT failed in it's original intent. Clearly the MDC contest has brought a new influx of registered members to the website.
The difficult dilemma at hand here seems to be whether to award a member ONE vs. TWO points for those new members that signed up using the MEMREF link that was supplied by IHUB.
It is obvious to me that this change in policy affects not only jmhollen, but every other member that is currently involved in the MDC contest.
As an attempt to rectify the situation and draw this ugly chapter to a fitful close, wouldn't it be wisest and most prudent at this point to allow the assignment of 2 points for each reference, vs. 1 point, and let the final point tally fall where it may? Can't this simply be accomplished using some time spent by Matt or Bob to take an hour to go back and catch up on those members who signed up but did not yet post, and APPROVE them?
As you said, Bob, it doesn't matter at all if they are approved for EIGHTEEN POSTS a DAY, if THEY DON'T POST!
SEE?
The most civil end to this dilemma is to retrace the steps of those that were only assigned one point vs. two points to be given the extra point !!!!!!!!!
After all, the MDC is almost over. And from what I have read, winner standings will be declared and checks will be written and TSHIRTS will be mailed.
Then, when all is said and done, perhaps we can put our collective internet heads together and discuss ways in which to make any future MDC's a WIN/WIN FOR ALL!!!
you apparently needed to post to be identified as a real person.
And I'm only going to explain this one more time. And I'll use small words this time.
It has nothing to do with being identified as a real person.
If a person isn't posting, there is no need to review their account to see if their posting limit should be raised from 3 to 18 daily. If they've posted zero times, the posting limit is moot.
Much like if you whined that you didn't have a CDL if you ride a bus to work every day.
The rules didn't change in the middle of the boat race, and he's approved. We don't work 24/7 at your beck and call, I'm sorry to say.
Now will you kindly quit your whining about how unfairly we're treating you?
Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh..................
The guy comes over here and posts, and he's still - UNAPPROVED.

Bob, quit wasting your time on people that can't even read things correctly. And continue to understand them incorrectly, even after being told they are wrong.
He doesn't comprehend that we aren't doing away with Free accounts.
He's complaining that people who don't post at all, only get 3 posts/day.
He's also the only one complaining about this (everybody else understands these things).
Do the math and quit wasting time on this ridiculous issue. It's like talking with MMMary. Opposite sides of the same coin.
MB
And I'll also consider your response to that one an admission that the only reason you care is that you feel it unfairly impacts your ability to manipulate your MDC score since you continue to refuse to deny that and present a "real" reason it upsets you so.
No, you don't pay to be here. You pay to have access to advanced features.

We'll consider that an admission. I'm not one to beat my head on a brick - we'll leave that act to Matt and the monkey.

yet you won't stand up straight and admit you haven't even "..APPROVED.." a major DD/techtalk/just-exactly-what-BobbyZ-&-Matthew-are-dreaming-of super techno-poster from good ol' SI....!!
When did I deny it? Of course he's not "approved" yet. When he posts, he'll be approved to post more than 3 per day.
Why are you bitching about this so much? You've gotten 2 points each for a ton of people who've never posted and never will. That's an advantage you have over most MDC competitors.
As a company who runs a message board site and wants to do so efficiently, we decided that rather than having Matt dealing with several screenfuls of new members to try to determine who should get to post 18 posts per day and who should be kept at 3 for now, it occurred to us that the easy solution was to have his screen only show people who've actually posted and would therefore have some need of a limit greater than 3 posts.
If you don't like it, that's really just too bad for you. You're the only one complaining about it. None of these new "unapproved" members has expressed a single complaint about it.
You just lack the huevos to admit that the reason you care is because you think it robs you of some advantage in the MDC. Because really whether or not we approve increased posting limits for new members is our business and theirs; not yours.
Well, Bob,
Perhaps what you can do is copy your old self-protective SI rule over here so that no one can call you or Matt to task "..on anything.." without getting suspended. Worked pretty well over there.
You call me names and make aspersions, yet you won't stand up straight and admit you haven't even "..APPROVED.." a major DD/techtalk/just-exactly-what-BobbyZ-&-Matthew-are-dreaming-of super techno-poster from good ol' SI....!!
It's a gawddam'd contest based on POINTS....!! Award the appropriate gawddam'd POINTS - or stand up and admit to everybody that it's a great big giant chunk of BS, run for the benefit of a "...FAVORED FEW...". who only post how, why, what and where you want them to.
Where the heck are the awards and winners of the old TAG LINE T-SHIRT thing, by the way............?!?
I must have snoozed through that, albeit my request to be able to buy multiple shirts for my crew must be floating around out there somewhere.
Pardon feakin' me for talking to you just like you talk to me, with the obvious exception that when you go totally ape-dungy you'll change the rules again, threaten me, or administratively shuffle me to the Jailhouse until I decide to post some JOEMONEY "...pwease, pewease, pwease, I'll weally, weally be guuuud..." message.
Clean it up, or keep your bloody name calling to yourself. You're not the only one who spends a lot of time in this HOUSE, and maybe you better start asking around about how your laundry smells........ Your and Matt's ingratitude may be likened to the odor of a few treatment plants I've driven by on a hot summer afternoon.

You're extremely ill-mannered, hollen. All you're trying to do is push my buttons now. Any reader can come to their own conclusions based on our exchange and I'll just leave it at that now.
Really is rude to be in a man's house pissing in his Wheaties right in front of him, though.
Read this again and explain to me what's so "wrong" about it.
The only difference between "New/Unapproved" and "Registered/Limited" is that the former can write 3 posts per day and the latter can write 18 posts per day.
That's the ONLY difference.
Oh, aside from the fact that the former are worth 1 point in the MDC and the latter are worth 2 points, which we both know full well is what you think is so unfair. To you.
New members' accounts are reviewed for approval for 18 posts per day only once they've started posting. Kinda hard to see what kind of posters they are without seeing posts, eh?
I'm sure once Chip writes a post, he'll find himself with an 18 limit real quick.
But if someone's not posting, it really doesn't matter whether their limit is 1 post per day or 1 million.
Get it now? If not, explain to me what part of the above is unfair to anybody. Or what part you don't get.
Sure are showing your true colors there, hollen. You bring up something that you claim is a great injustice the site is doing to new members but won't state exactly what that injustice is. Just change to annoyance mode when you're trumped.
Just go back to doing whatever it was you were doing before and leave me to mismanage mine and Matt's site.

It was a poorly thought out kludge, with pizz-poor management support given to all of the folks who signed up - especially as it relates to an "...official welcome.." for them by iHub.
How would you know? You joined the site long before the site was sending a Welcome message to new members.
The truth of the matter is that you and Matt decided you wanted to bump up your membership roles, so you could concurrently jack up your display and banner-ad rates to iHub's clients based on more head-count.
You call it truth but it isn't and you really don't have any way of knowing one way or the other. Is this a common practice of yours? If so, I'll be sure to keep it in mind when viewing your investment opinions or "truths".
Now that it hasn't been the ROARING COMMERCIAL SUCCESS that you hoped for, you offer criticism and excuses to cover it up.
I'd call it extremely successful if not for the black eye some spammers, yourself included, are giving us with it.
Nothing is ever seems good enough for you, regardless of how little personal effort you put into it.
Very good. Now stand in front of a mirror and say that 3 more times.
And how dare you act like I don't put any effort into this place.
Poor me...?!? Ha ha ha ha ha.....
I wasn't referring to financial poorness, and you know it. I was referring to your moaning about the MDC somehow being unfair to poor little jmhollen when you are one of the folks who has taken the most unfair advantage of my having not imposed all the right rules on it to begin with. Like not spamming other sites.
"...you're welcome..." for all the new members.
A good 90-95% of the "members" you brought to the site will NEVER post on the site (which is what defines "membership" for me) despite your earlier comment that they'd later become high-quality prolific posters. You abused the MDC rules in such a way that your point count was artificially inflated with a bunch of people who will never post. Don't refute me on the "won't ever post" thing. I have access to the data and you don't. Your claim of people becoming contributing posters 6 months later isn't supported by the data. As I've already mentioned, except in cases where they clicked on a spammed link, a little over 35% of all people who register accounts on iHub write their first post within 5 days. Of the other 65%, more than 90% never do post.
Yeppers................, quite a plan.
Sure is one helluva freindly place, iHub.........!! People take the time and trouble to sign up on 23 & 24JAN03, and they get completely ignored by the folks supposedly running the super-duper membership drive nearing its terminus...:

Sorry, time ran out before I could add the revised compliment.... I hate it when work gets in the way of my free time activities.
Credit where credit is due. iHub is nicely designed and well run as a stock discussion site. The technology works dependably, which is obviously a credit to your Pro-geekistic know-how. It's certainly becoming known as a great financial and equity information exchange on the WWW, even though you are obviously forced (...against your will...) to tolerate people having interpersonal and semi-recreational discussions bordering on general commeraderie.
You and Matthew are most certainly "...the Greatest...", "....float like butterflies and sting like bees...", "...without peers in the industry...", "...outstanding in your field...", "...never have so many owed so much to so few...", "...one small step for man - one giant leap for stocksite Geekism...", "...winning one for the Gipper..." and "...rah rah, zis, boom, bah - 23 Skiddoo to both of you..."!!!
Thank you so very much for this really cool place to bask in the results of your incomparable expertise and Matt's crowning glory. Some day, some of us may actually live up to your stratospheric expectations, do so on your terms, and post in lock-step like the good little clones we should all apparently be.
Until then, have a swell day, aye.

Go sell it to somebody who cares what you think, Bob.........
There certainly are a lot of people on SI who don't seem to miss you at all. And, you can massage your POV any way you want, the MDC situation speaks for itself. It was a poorly thought out kludge, with pizz-poor management support given to all of the folks who signed up - especially as it relates to an "...official welcome.." for them by iHub.
The truth of the matter is that you and Matt decided you wanted to bump up your membership roles, so you could concurrently jack up your display and banner-ad rates to iHub's clients based on more head-count. Altruism is a beautiful thing, but let's not be wrapping ourselves in it in an attempt to disguise the commercial pupose of the MDC. RavingBullschmidt did the roughly same thing to get going - they simply allowed computer-generated, multiple MFMMM, Pro-pump-n-basher and monkeyaliases to swell their roles - until the word got around. Then olks like Verizon bailed on them when they found out they were paying through the nose for Casper-the-not-so-friendly-Ghost vaporposters.
Rather than purchase banner or normal media advertising on recognized venues like Amazon (...at commercial rates...) you and Matthew took perhaps 1/20th of that money and threw it on the table for a "...let our existing members do all the work for free..." contest. Now that it hasn't been the ROARING COMMERCIAL SUCCESS that you hoped for, you offer criticism and excuses to cover it up. Nothing is ever seems good enough for you, regardless of how little personal effort you put into it.
Credit where credit is due; iHub is nicely designed and well run as a stock disucssion site. The technology works dependably, which is a credit to your Pro-geekistic know-how. Poor me...?!? Ha ha ha ha ha..... As much as you might wish that - not too likely. And, should I receive some pittance from iHub, it will be immediately handed down to my crew and/or a local charity for "..goody.." acquisitions and efforts Pro Bono, etc. You see, the fun was in the good-spirited competition between Churak and me; the resulting chump change never had any meaningful significance.
Oh by the way...... Just like all the nicely designed and reasonably well suported stock discussion boards that the members have provided here on the HUb, "...you're welcome..." for all the new members.
Properly nutured they might some day measure up to your corporately snooty, oh-so-lofty, and arrogantly aloof expectations, aye...!!
John
Park your Sub at the iHub - Bub; .....the experience might just "...float your boat..." !!!
No, our business plan is just for us to be the best stock message board out there. We're not interested in being a portal. Granted, some companies do well being portals, and some other companies do well making cars. We don't wish to compete with them. We just want to do the one thing and do it well.
Actually, though we don't have Media Metrix tracking us (costs money and I'd rather spend it on computers than on other companies telling me we're doing well), I know just from looking at Alexa data that we're among the stickier sites around and possibly the stickiest of all stock message boards. When you pull up Traffic Details, the pages per user is a good measure of stickiness, though it doesn't take into account that lots of people repeatedly view the same URL (like Favorites or a particular Board page). Even with that known shortcoming in the measurement, we rank very high in pages viewed per users. Quite possibly among the top 1000 sites on the net. We already frequently come in as one of the top 2000 sites on the net in terms of total page views (minus the repeats on Favorites and Board, even).
For example, yesterday we ranked 1,775 in terms of total pageviews. And averaged 43 pages per user. That's very busy and *very sticky*.
For comparison's sake, all of Lycos did 4 pages per user. They get more users (by a long shot) but we're a lot stickier.
To compare apples to apples, SI ranked 2,195 yesterday for total pageviews. Yes. We get more pageviews than they do and have for a couple of weeks. And at only 11.3 page views per user, we're about 4 times as sticky.
I do wish Alexa would give a ranking on pages per user. I checked a number of sites like Lycos, Yahoo, and Microsoft, and none of them were even in the same league as us in terms of pages per user. If Alexa ranked that number, I honestly think we'd have a 3-digit ranking and possibly a 2-digit ranking.
